dear comic book writers

we women also do not typically say "You go, girl."

Also, when scuba diving for business/crime reasons, I'm reasonably certain most of us with long hair will wear it in a ponytail. Otherwise it gets in our eyes and we can't see.

I miss Dinah's short, sassy hair. Superheroines with long flowing blonde hair are a dime a dozen.

I hope Black Canary gets pants soon. I loved that Oracle turned the tables on Batman.

I am enjoying Birds of Prey, don't get me wrong. I just have to turn off my critical brain on some things, and I find that very difficult these days.

ETA: Score! Pants!
karabox

oh, comics

So I just read the first Birds of Prey issue, and... Okay. I'm excited about so many women kicking ass. And the women aren't drawn quite so ridiculously, um, endowed as usual. But where are Black Canary's pants? Would you fight crime without pants? I wouldn't. And both Black Canary and the Huntress are fighting crime because they were jilted by a cute jerk? Really? That's the backstory?

Sigh.

ETA: apparently that wasn't the first issue. I am reading out of order. Anyway, "Revolution" was much better, complete with a nice tension between Oracle and Canary.

One last thought. Dear dudes: women do not actually call each other "girlfriend" in casual conversation. Even in the mid nineties.

ETA 2: I am oddly enjoying the "Aeon Flux" movie with Charlize Theron. It's not necessarily good, and I have no idea what's going on, but it's pretty.
