look ma, endorphins. And the dangers of voiceovers.

Today I started to remember why I used to do yoga regularly. It took 3 classes, but now I remember. The nice endorphins lifted me a bit out of the muck of grouchy gloom I've been in all week, at least enough to play with the cat and consider going to the grocery store.

Part of that might be the three day weekend, as well. Not that I don't already have those every other week due to alternative work schedule, but somehow they're still special when they're holidays. Because I get Monday off, rather than Friday. Don't look at me, it's my brain.

The DVR has captured random eps of the X-Files for my viewing pleasure. And I'd forgotten how godawful Chris Carter's droning voiceovers could be. There was one ep, "Redux," which was entirely dueling voice overs. I half expected Skinner to join in on the voiceover action. Thankfully, "Redux II" was Of The Awesome, so it made up for the voiceover hell that went before.

Why, Chris Carter, why???

Also, Skinner/Scully is HOT. I avoided all relationship fics the first time around, but I saw glimpses in the ep the other day and... HOT.

whiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine

I'm supposed to go (no - I AM GOING) to my second yoga class this afternoon.

I even bought more yoga-friendly (read-sportsbra) clothes.

There is a heat advisory for DC today. As in, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DON'T LEAVE YOUR HOUSE.

This is what the Washington Post weather page reads: Partly sunny, hot with the temperature breaking the record of 97 last set in 1998 and humid. Temp: 100F. With humidity. Did I mention the humidity?

Did I mention I don't think the yoga studio is air conditioned?

If I never post again, I've melted into a puddle of goo somewhere in the Petworth neighborhood.

post yoga ETA: wow, negative nancy. it's only 94F, which with humidity feels like 104F, so imagine what it would have been like had the temp actually reached the predicted 100F. Also, yoga studio IS airconditioned. And the teacher went easy on us today. My ass was only half-kicked. The above post is reason #432 why I would never survive bootcamp.

yoga kicked my ass

isn't is supposed to be all relaxing and shit???

Just kidding. I haven't practiced yoga in about 7 years and yesterday  I went to the first session of an "Introduction to Yoga" workshop at heatherbrie's yoga studio. And boy, am I weak. Geez. I mean, I know I haven't been doing any regular exercise besides walking but OMG I've got the armstrength of a wet noodle. We mostly learned the Sun Salutation, a slightly different version than the one I learned years ago, and today my entire body is sore. Which, I suppose, is good. Heh.

One good thing is that I remembered more than I thought I would; I just didn't have the muscle strength to keep it up for any extended period. I like the teacher so far; she's very different from my last teacher (different school of yoga, I suspect). The class was small, which was nice.

We'll see. It'll probably kick my ass again next week, but hopefully if I practice some between now and then it won't kick my ass so righteously.
