Author's Notes: Ironhide wanted something positive.

He sat on the berth beside the smaller femme, listening to her sobs as she curled up against his side. Ironhide remembered Axia telling him that Crossfire always did that with people she trusted whenever she was sad or lonely. He remembered her request days ago to take care of Crossfire should Axia and Stormchaser be deactivated because of the war that began. It didn't make much sense then, but it became clear now as he placed a hand on her side.

Crossfire was just one upgrade away from being an adult now and Ironhide didn't want to leave her behind when Optimus Prime would be sending the AllSpark into space. She wasn't his creation, but she might as well have been with how close they became in spite of the war dragging him off into battle. Chromia became like a femme creator to Crossfire and that was more than he could have hoped for from his mate.

"Please, Ironhide. We need her safety to be guaranteed in case we're deactivated." Stormchaser had said the day they approached the black mech about their femme creation's survival.

"If Megatron has his forces attack Central Security there is a very real chance Stormchaser and I won't survive. We need to protect her from him." Axia added as she clung to her mate's arm.

"I will protect her with my Spark. I promise both of you this." Ironhide had said solemnly that day.

He and Crossfire never realized that just days after, Central Security was attacked as Stormchaser predicted. The red femme ran all the way from Praxus to Iacon to be there but her creators were among those deactivated. This left a hollow feeling in Ironhide's gut but he made a promise.

"I want to adopt Crossfire." Ironhide told Optimus after Bumblebee had taken her to Ironhide's quarters. "Her creators made me promise to take care of her if they were deactivated and I want to keep that promise."

"If that is what you wish, dear friend, then it is your duty." The Autobot leader said as he placed a hand on the shorter mech's shoulder. "She is your responsibility now."
