Writer's Block: Memories

What is the most memorable event of your life so far? What made it so special? Do you think you'll ever top it?

I can't pick 1... That's impossible. So I will give you 3.

1) When my dad died. I remember EVERYTHING about that night.

2) My reunion with my Maternal Birth grandparents. And ALL the info that came with it.

3) Finding out I'm pregnant.

Writer's Block: Father nature

What is your fondest childhood memory of your father or grandfather?

There are so many with my dad it's hard to pick out one.

But one of my most memorable was not one occasion, but several.

Saturday mornings I would wake up before everyone and watch cartoons. LOVED looney toons.

Dad was usually the next one up. He would make coffee and sit in the living room to read his paper and have his coffee.
Dad was a scientist. Incredibly intelligent.
I would usually come out to the living room and sit on the love seat. Dad and I would have these long intellectual conversations about numerous topics. Yes, my dad had intellectual conversations with a kid. :)

This went on through high school. Not every weekend, but pretty often. We would discuss subjects like creation versus evolution, space, aliens, big foot. You know mysteries of the world type stuff. It was always fascinating to have these conversations with dad. I don't think anyone else talked about this stuff with him at home.

I'm so glad that we shared those mornings. Specially now that he's gone. He was a really special person.

Writer's Block: Nature v. nurture

In your opinion, how much of our personality is genetic, and how much is shaped by environmental factors?

I am somewhat of a good example for this argument being an adoptee who found my birth family.
(I was adopted at birth, never knew my birth family till I was 30 years old.)

A lot of what I am definitely comes from my adoptive parents, but a lot also comes from my birth family.

Example #1) I LOVE horses, have ever since I can remember. Wanted to ride, own, worked at a couple stables, took horsmanship classes ate CCAC, etc. No one in my family has any interest in horses other than, "oh look, pretty horse." That's it.
My Birthmother also loved horses. She had a horse up until she got married. She had that horse while she was pregnant with me.
When I was a kid I had a collection of horse figurines. I had a palamino, I named it Sunny. That was the name of my mother's horse. (in addition to this, both my birth mom and i had the exact same tendency towards trying to rescue every stray creature, or hurt wild animal we could.)

#2) Don't like plain white milk. Not at all. I can drink it chocolate, or strawberry, or on cereal. Otherwise it makes me gag.
Birth mom was the same way, and it started for her around the same age it started for me.

#3) I used to work at a powersports store. I sold ATVs and motorcycles. I always planned on getting my Motorcylce driver's license, but had no one to teach me, and no bike small enough to learn on. My entire birth family are bikers.

That's just a couple examples.

Writer's Block: Back off!

Have you ever witnessed someone being bullied and just walked away? Have you ever gone out of your way to help someone who was being bullied? How do you think it impacted you and the person being bullied?

I was bullied a LOT when I was in high school. I was always the awkward weird girl who didn't really fit in with any of the groups. The "burn outs" accepted me, but I was not really one of them. I just was friends with a whole group of them.

My senior year in English class we were supposed to break into groups. I had 2 friends in that class, but we had recently gone through some stupid teen age drama, and they weren't talking to me. I still cared about them though. (stupid)

I ended up having no one to work with and I resigned myself to the fact that I was going to have to do this project on my own.

My 2 "friends" of course partnered up. While the students were rearranging themselves into their groups, I sat at my desk writing some stuff down.
I hear this obnoxious boy (who had been a thorn in my side since 7th grade) start to make comments about me. I just ignored them. I still heard them, but I had learned to not react. After he was done making his comments on me, he started in on my 2 "friends". He crossed the line. I was already mad about what he said about me... I had enough.

I was writing with several different pens... (I liked to use different colors for my notes.) I calmly put the caps back on my pens one by one. Then I stood up, walked over to where Augie was sitting. I said "Hey Augie." Then I grabbed his jean jacket and I punched him in the face. I went back and sat at my desk. I was shaking like a leaf from the adrenaline. I had never hit anyone before... let alone at school.

As I walked away I heard him say, "did you see what that bitch just did?"

My teacher missed the whole thing.

The next day before class I went to talk to her. (we were friends, and I trusted she wouldn't get me in trouble.)
I told her what happened. She replied by saying, "And I missed it?!?! Hit him again!!!"

LOL I felt much better after that.

Baby birds

Baby birds, originally uploaded by Amarook.

Marie was surprised when putting laundry away this evening. Nina found 4 baby birds in a nest, and brought them inside. She thought it would be fun to raise baby birds.
She had tucked them into a towel in her dresser drawer.

My sister brought them to me to see if I can save them.

I have them under a heat lamp in my office. They just ate a spoonful of ground up worms & meal worms. They are sleeping soundly.

Any advice?
