CHARACTER

NAME: ♪♫♩♬♫, Grace-given name: Rocky.
CANON: Project Hail Mary (2026), film-based with some book influences. 
SPECIES: Eridian, from the planet Erid in the star system 40-Eridani.
AGE: 291 (in Earth units), an adult in his 30s/40s by Eridani life cycle standards.
SENSES: Eridians use passive sonar to perceive and navigate their surroundings, since their planet has too many atmospheres for light from their stars to make it to the surface. Because of that, their species never evolved to need eyes, and they rely on their passive sonar/highly sensitive hearing as their primary senses.
ABOUT: An engineer who was sent on a mission into space to save their planet's star from dying. Rocky was one of 23 crew members sent on the mission, but he is the only one left alive after all his crewmates die of radiation poisoning (something their species had no prior knowledge of). Stranded alone in space for over forty Earth years, he eventually is found by a strange alien: a human from Earth named Grace. Together, the two of them discover how to save their planets, and after forming an unlikely friendship, they both ultimately risk everything to save each other, too.

IN CHARACTER

PHYSICAL AFFECTION: Eridians don't hug, but he understands it is important in human culture, so he will hug his people when they need it. He can't kiss, since he does not have a face.
PHYSICAL VIOLENCE: Rocky is a fixer, not a fighter, but he is also a rock-spider who weighs 500 pounds, so I'd be careful starting anything with him.
RELATIONSHIPS: He is happily mated, but I'm happy to explore a romantic dynamic with Grace, and equally happy to keep it in the queerplatonic zone. Either way, he loves his human a lot. Otherwise, please keep it gen.
PSYCHIC INFORMATION: Eridians are efficient multi-taskers, so whatever your character hears will be like tuning into 10 different radio stations at once.
MEDICAL INFORMATION: Since he cannot survive in Earth's atmosphere for long, assume he is using his EVA suit unless otherwise stated.
NOTE: Unless you're Grace post-canon (or Adrian!), if Rocky is communicating with your character, he is most likely using a translating device that turns his natural speech (that resembles whistles, chords and woodwind sounds) into English, and that translation isn't totally accurate. Thus, "incorrect" grammar will occur. Even in his natural language, the way he speaks is very condensed and to the point, removing words that Eridians consider extraneous.

NOT INTERESTED IN: I strongly support all monsterfuckers and xenophiles, but that's not something I'm interested in writing myself at this moment.
NOTE: I suck hardcore at science, and I apologize for the inaccurate and hand-waving I will inevitably write when it comes to legit science.
 

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

VISUAL: A spider/crab-looking creature that seems to be made of brown rocks, approximately the size of a Labrador retriever, with five limbs (each with a joint and a "claw" at the end) and no face.
AURAL: His first language is composed of a variety of notes, usually five, often played at the same time. Through the translator that Grace made for him, he sounds like a sassy robot.
OLFACTORY: To a human, he would smell strongly of ammonia, since that is what his atmosphere is made of.
DEMEANOUR: Bossy, inventive, emotional, invasive, protective, stubborn, intelligent, impatient, committed.
