Writer's Block: Name your passion
What are you most passionate about and why?
*Emerges from lurking, LOL* There've been so many good questions but this one is especially important. Animals are what I care about more than anything else in the world. Their welfare and how adorable, wonderful and special each one is, even the 'non-cute' ones.
If there was a second place, I'd choose history, trying to get students involved and caring about it in some way
Musings.....
Writer's Block: Are women or men bigger cheats?
Do you think men or women are more likely to cheat if they know they won't get caught? Do you believe in marriage?
Writer's Block: Under Protest
Have you ever participated in a boycott? What did you boycott and why?
Also, BOYCOTT THE PHILADELPHIA EAGLES AND A**HOLE VICK. Seriously, what kind fo message is all this sending? He should just disappear and join society like a regular person, not be rewarded for being a cruel sick psychopath. I won't watch any Eagles game and will boycott anything to do with Vick and I encourage everyone to do the same. I'm so dissapointed with the Eagles, who I actually liked before this, I could choke.
Oliver's Tail....
Er,Tale.....
Yesterday, I was at Petco, where I volunteer every Monday and Tuesday (they have adoptable cats from the local Humane Society, no pet shop crap) and this young lady came in looking desperate. She looked like she was nearly in tears. She was wondering if she could leave a kitten at the store with the other cats and I knew that couldn't happen because strays have to go to the shelter first in case of disease, being fixed, etc.
She said she couldn't leave the kitten at home because she had dogs who had tried to eat it (!!!!!!!!!) and the closest Humane Society was closed. She tried Animal Shelter and the bastards said that stray animals weren't their job. Uh, HELLO? You're fucking ANIMAL CONTROL!! What _is_ your job? Dumbasses.
So anyway, this girl was desperate. This poor kitten, well....I know she meant well but she'd left it in her car in this horrible humid heat and the thing was terrified.
He was shaking and his little ears were laid back. Poor baby. So, I took him for the night. He was such a waif and a little orphan, all alone, that I called him Oliver. The little thing hid under my bed all night but, the good thing was he was out of the heat, not alone and terrified at the drop off 'box' at the shelter. He even lapped up some milk and a tiny bit of food (not cow's milk, speciality-made for cats) and I know he slept. He was still frightened this morning but did better. A friend helped me take him to the shelter and he seemed more curious, less terrified. He was dropped off and that's the last I've seen of him. I hope he gets a good home, he was friggin' adorable, with big, sad eyes.
ALl of this really showed me that there is no safety umbrella for lost animals, especially little helpless ones. Talking to some people, I learned that Animal Control's best advice was to basically turn the animal loose on the streets. My god in heaven, what a joke. The shelter hours are like, open four hours a day, etc. I mean, I know that its hard to keep these places operating but still. Its really sad, especailly in a relatively animal friendly place like Bloomington. That's how so many animals stay lost, that why so many fall through the cracks. Fucking bureaucracy and selfishness. Make sme ill, really. Good luck to you little Oliver.
