Happy News!!

I just wanted to share a bit of happy news with my friends on Livejournal.

I am now, as of November 2, engaged to be married. My boyfriend of 4 years asked me to marry him by firelight during a stay at a gorgeous B&B on Friday night, and I couldn't be happier!!!

summer update

Oh good, somebody please kidnap me away from here because I'm dying of boredom and nobody wants to hire me(and I've applied everywhere in the area, too). *cries*

Annnyway, at least July is getting closer, and my two trips are in July.
I'm visiting Chicago and San Diego in July for about two weeks total, both together. I can't wait!

I just wish I'd had something to do from when I graduated in May (yay for that!) and July 9 which is my first flight. Ugh. I haven't done much. I had a visit with Rob and Jess (a fun weekend. they came out to visit me at home and I took them to all the interesting things in the area around where I live) and I went to NY for Jeff's sister's bridal shower. He drove me back home and he stayed out here for a few days, and that was fun.

But damn, I'm so bored! Save me.

Solo and graduation plans

You know what? Having been rehearsing "Sometimes I feel like a Motherless Child" so much in choir..I'll be fine for the concert. I really will be. You should come see me, since it'll most likely be a one time event where I'll be doing a solo.

3:00 p.m. at the Chapel for Humanity in North Adams, MA, April 28th.

Even my parents are coming. Woot.

And speaking of my parents, they're probably thrilled that I'll be graduating (May 12). In fact, I hear they'll host a grad party for me back home..

Oh, and I've got some awesome plans for the summer. Two trips, actually. One to Chicago to visit Wendy (Ghostinthemachine) July 9-13, and then off to San Diego for Comic Con (and maybe to see online buds like Sara and Bert and Ky, and Bunneh and Megs, not to mention some RL pals that i've already met in the flesh). That's the last week of July, 25th-31st. I can't wait.

Best part? My loving and wonderful boyfriend and best friend, Jeff, paid for the second trip entirely. We're staying at a hotel for the week, and he paid for the whole trip. I'm taking care of Comic Con and expenses while we're out there. Awesome graduation present, huh? But it helped, because i paid for Chicago on my own. Thanks, sweetie! You're the best.

And tonight? I was commissioned to take photos for an awards banquet. It was a great honor, and I had my awesome roomie there to help position the large groups that needed a photo taken. Some of the groups were ridiculous in size! Oy. But now that's done. I'll upload the photos at the Beacon tomorrow, and edit them a little then burn it onto a CD for Celia tomorrow.

We didn't start the fire

With the events on Patriot's day in Virginia fresh in our minds, it seems to be an appropriate time to address the disturbing habit of humanity for conflict. Having just recently seen Billy Joel perform his hit song "We didn't start the fire" live (Tuesday night, actually), this idea is further entrenched in my mind at present.

I can think of no other animal that has this propensity for conflict. We cause mass extinctions, habitat destruction, and mass-murder of nonhuman animals, and we do the same to other humans, as well. The Darfur conflict, the Holocaust, and the Crusades are but some examples, not to mention school shootings like this latest Virginia Tech incident, or that infamous day in 2001, September 11.

What is it about humanity that makes this senseless tendency towards extreme violence so common? Is it biology? I doubt it. We differ only by a chromosome or two from many other nonhuman species, but it is not nearly so common to find murder in the animal kingdom aside from humans.
Granted, nonhuman animals fight occasionally. For breeding rights, and for territory, but even Grizzly bears rarely kill eachother, even in combat. The weaker opponent will back off, not being prevented, by pride, from admitting defeat.

My guess is that it's our culture. The dog-eat-dog competitive spirit that infuses American society, for instance, is no doubt responsible for many social conflicts, including the prevailing distaste for homeless and poor people by the bulk of American society.

WTF was I thinking?

So now I'm freaking out about it, but the damage is done.

Choir director offered me a solo in a song today, and I, stupidly, just accepted it. I think it was the 7 days of no sleeping and the cold medication, but there you have it- I've got a solo.

And let's be clear- it's not just any solo. It's a whole SONG. Just me accompanied by the choir. ME. Little old me who hasnt ever performed a solo song...ever. Not once. Ohhhh damn. I've lost it. My brain is mush, and I am a goner.

Me? A SOLO? Was I smoking something at the time, and didn't notice??! Shoot me, now.

Dreams

A recent discussion with a friend made me think about some of the weird dreams I've had..so I did some research..mostly just for something to do, at one of those sites that interperets dreams.

Growing up, I dreamed about being chased a lot..and flying. Typical stuff, really.

One dream in particular was being chased by a glowing worm and a fox..all around a neighbor's house. I'd just moved into the area.

Fox
To see a fox lurking about in your dream, represents cleverness and resourcefulness. You need to use your insight and intellect to solve some problem. Perhaps you need to conceal your thoughts and/or remain silent. Alternatively, it indicates a period of isolation or loneliness. It is a good way for you to use this time to reflect.
(again, the fox was chasing me..or maybe it was the worm? Hmm.)

Worm
To see a worm in your dream, represents weakness and general negativity. You have a very low opinion of yourself or of someone in your life (there was no mention in the dictionary about being CHASED by such a thing, however, but I'm going to assume that, if this is legit, I was literally being chased by negativity in my own mind. Or something.)

-Another dream-

I've had a lot of dreams about being hassled by bears. Big brown ones. Grizzlies, maybe. IN any case, once in was in a house (my grandparent's house, I believe), and I knw everybody else as nextdoor. The bear tried to get into the house and i locked myself in the bathroom.

Another time I was floating on a tube down a river with my sister, and the bear swiped at us from the shore.

I think there was another Bear instance, but I can't remember the details. This was years ago.

Anyway...

Bear
To dream that you are being pursued or attacked by a bear, denotes aggression, overwhelming obstacles and competition. You may find yourself in a threatening situation. Alternatively, bears symbolize the cycle of life and death and renewal. It may signal of period of introspection and thinking. The dream may also be a pun on "bare". Perhaps you need to bare your soul and let everything out into the open.
(well, okay then. Was I feeling threatened somehow, at the time of these dreams? I wish I could remember).

-Last Dream-

This one was the weirdest- it was all about me and my family trying to track down a black horse that had apparently escaped from somewhere. We were all out looking. Every once in awhile I'd see the animal in the distance, but I never could get close enough to capture the creature.

I found myself suddenly walking upon a funeral scene. Everybody in my family that I'd been hunting for the horse with was suddenly wearing black. They were huddled around an open grave, and my sister was in it. Dead.

Sister
To see your sister in your dream, symbolizes some aspect of your relationship with her, whether it's one of sibling rivalry, caring, protectiveness, etc. Your sister may draw attention to your family role and sense of belonging.
(well it certainly couldnt have been about the death of our sibling rivalry, since its still alive and well)

Death
To dream about the death of a loved one, suggests that you are lacking a certain aspect or quality that the loved one embodies. Ask yourself what makes this person special or what do you like about her. It is that very quality that you are lacking in your own relationship or circumstances. Alternatively, it indicates that whatever that person represents has no part in your own life
(Hmm. I've never been terribly close to any of my sisters. I can't really interperet her being dead very well)

Dark Horse-
To see a black or dark horse in your dream, signifies mystery, wildness, and the unknown. You may be taking a chance or gamble at some unknown area. It may even represents occult forces
(I was trying to find and capture this)

********************************
Random stuff out of curiousity-

Dragons
To see a dragon in your dream, signifies that you let yourself get carried away by your passion. This kind of behavior may lead you into the hands of enemies. You need to exercise some self-control.

In the eastern cultures, dragons are seen as spiritual creatures symbolizing good luck and fortune.

To dream that you are a dragon and breathing fire and everyone, suggests that you are using your anger to get your own way.

Vampire
To see a vampire in your dream, symbolizes seduction and sensuality, as well as fear and death. The vampire represents contrasting images of civilized nobility and aggression/ferocity. It may depict someone in your waking life whose charm may ultimately prove harmful. Deep down inside you know that this person is bad for you, yet you are still drawn to it. Vampires also sometimes relate to decisions about sex and losing your virginity. Alternatively, to see a vampire suggests that you are feeling physically or emotionally drained. The vampire may also be symbolic for someone who is addicted to drugs or someone in an obsessive relationship.

To dream that you are a vampire, signifies that you are sucking in the life energy of others for your own selfish benefit.

Bridge
To dream that you are crossing a bridge, signifies an important decision or a critical junction in your life. This decision will prove to be a positive change with prosperity and wealth in the horizon. Bridges represent a transitional period in your life where you will be moving on to a new stage.

To dream of a run-down bridge, indicates that you should not contemplate any major changes in your life at this time.

To see a bridge collapse in your dream, denotes that you have let a great opportunity pass you by.
