When I watch the first 3 season of XWP my heart explode with hope and I love the writers for what they did to Xena in that period. She goes all the way through "I cannot stand my heart beating, much less loving" in SOTP to the deep awareness of how much she was loving another soul. Then she realized she was ready to pulverize her inner shell. And so we have the first kiss in The quest and the first "I love you" in the Price (And she goes all "OMG DID I JUST SAY I LOVE YOU?!"). Aw, so tender.

I’ve always headcanoned that Xena was a very loving person who openly showed her affection towards the people she cared about before she turned evil. Lyceus reaction to her giddily running towards him is a little hint of that.

Not to mention this is still Xena who remembers her evil past and her brother being dead. And her immediate reaction when he shows up is this. Big change from stoic and gruff Xena.

Seeing a post about watching Xena’s growth from stoic warrior to, as the post put it, “a little shit” made me think of this. Underneath it all Xena is a dork who has no problem being openly affectionate with the people she loves. Just look at her running up to Lyceus here. Him smiling and fondly going “sisters” highlights the fact that this is not strange behavior from Xena. Lyceus clearly knows his sister to be this affectionate.

We see it mostly with Gabrielle for obvious reasons. She is also a big reason for this change in Xena. But we also see it with Eve. And Joxer (just look at how she reacts to him being alive in Been There Done That).

This makes her turn to evil all the more compelling. Really shows how much she lost her way.

the commodification of friendship is the most annoying thing to come out of the internet in ages. like actually i love to break this to you but you're supposed to help your friends move even if it's hard work. or stay up with them when they're sad even if you're gonna lose sleep. you're supposed to listen to their fears and sorrows even if it means your own mind takes on a little bit of that weight. that's how you know that you care. they will drive you to the airport and then you will make them soup when they're sick. you're supposed to make small sacrifices for them and they are supposed to do that for you. and there's actually gonna be rough patches for both of you where the balance will be uneven and you will still be friends and it will not be unhealthy and they will not be abusive. life is not meant to be an endless prioritization of our own comfort if it was we would literally never get anywhere ever. jesus.

What i love about this artist’s depictions of women is even the sexualized ones the woman is always genuinely happy and enjoying herself. Frolicking or making funny faces, she’s living her life and looking sexy while doing it, not sitting in a sexual pose for the audience’s view.

My favorite thing is how Hilda is almost always DOING something. She’s out there living her life. She’s not posing coyly for anyone, she’s having her own adventures and it’s not about the viewer at all
