Summary: “Got the wind knocked out of me.”

B’Elanna groggily propped herself up on her elbows, slowly and carefully glancing around the suddenly expansive landscape that hadn’t been there when they first beamed down to the planet. “Captain?” she worriedly called out.
“What happened?” Kathryn enquired, lightly touching the side of her eye grimacing at the blood on her fingertips. “I heard a rumble then I must have blacked out. How about you?”
“Got the wind knocked out of me.”
Hearing the telltale signs of an impending avalanche, B’Elanna said “We need a plan and fast.” The women quickly assessed their situation, both knew that moving around with their minor injuries was going to be tricky until they could find shelter on the barren planet with an unpredictable atmospheric chemistry.
Gingerly getting to a standing position, B’Elanna pulled Kathryn to her feet. “The sun is going down in the south east, I suggest we head in that direction until we can find something to use as a makeshift shelter.”
“Agreed.”

Walking in almost silence for what was beginning to feel like hours, Kathryn asked, “Do you hear that?” it sounded like it was yet another warning sign for them to worry about.
“Yeah I do.”
“It's very close isn’t it?” Kathryn questioned, thinking she was imagining the close proximity of what is usually a once in a season natural event on other planets.
Turning to look at the distance they’d already covered, B’Elanna yelled, “Captain, run!”
Taking off at speed against a force of nature wasn’t something either of them expected to experience when they beamed down to the seemingly abandoned planet to conduct a scientific survey just a couple of hours ago.
“In there!” Kathryn exclaimed when she spotted a hollowed out gap near by. They spent a few more minutes running towards what they hoped was safety, even if it was only a short term solution.
Needing to rest for a few minutes before going further inside they leaned against the walls of what looked like an abandoned hidden cave. Scanning the interior of their temporary shelter with a tricorder, Kathryn stated, “My tricorder isn’t registering life signs, just plant life.”
Slowly walking further inside the cave, they stopped at a ledge overlooking a field of wild flowers in a variety of striking colours, shapes and sizes. Some looked similar to earth based plants, some looked potentially poisonous and others looked like ones they’d encountered throughout their journey.
“I wonder who did this,” B’Elanna said, impressed at seeing the cacophony of colours flourishing in such a harsh environment.
“Maybe whoever the aliens were that abandoned this planet.”
Kathryn started feeling woozy, moved back towards a wall to try and prevent a fall. “Captain?” B’Elanna said, worried about her head injury that was starting to bleed again.
“I think we should get out of here.”
“Why?” B’Elanna, asked while now feeling woozy herself. “Come on,” she said, taking Kathryn’s hand while using the wall to keep them both from passing out inside the cave.
Once they were far enough away from the flower field, the symptoms they experienced further inside dissipated.
“That was strange,” B’Elanna admitted, confused by what had actually happened.
“It was strange,” Kathryn agreed. “We should try to contact Voyager for an emergency beam out.”
