Hi everyone!

I'm going to be a high school senior this fall and I am interested in Alfred's Track II program. I'm looking to create my own major that includes some combination of social thought/change, public policy, and community and political organizing/advocacy. From your perspectives as students or alumnae, do you think it would be possible for me to create such a major given the courses Alfred has to offer and the contents of their specifc major and minor programs?

Hey Folks ~

I was listening to NPR on 27Feb07 in the morning, and during the 'Business News' blip I heard Dr Alan Goldstein [Professor of Biomaterials Engineering] being interviewed about nano-materials being used to fight fake US money. I was glad my car was parked at the time.

i hope this is still some what active..

I am considering going to Alfred this fall and i just wanted to know what some of the students thought about it *thats where you come in!*

so i guess i should tell you some things im looking for in a college and then you tell me if you think Alfred would be fitting or what you think of it, etc.:

Im looking for a college that has a good relationship/ invlovement with the community,
is at least some what enviornmentaly conscience,
has a lot of artsy, music, theater, hippie type kids,
a decent sized town (suburban-ish i guess) with stuff to do (coffee shops, places where local bands play, etc)
isn't huge but is still big enough where you probably wont know everyone.
good theater, art, music programs. liberal artsty kind of stuff.
pretty campus/ surroundings

umm thats all i can think of right now :P, any help is appreciated! <3

1. on tuesday, august 22nd i am flying into the rochester airport and will arrive at 4pm. i am going to be waiting around there until 9pm for the shuttle to the university.. so i was wondering if anyone was also flying into the rochester airport on tuesday, and if so, would you like to meet up some where in the airport and hang out, bond, and all that fun stuff while we wait for the shuttle?

2. do people take the train or the bus to new york city often? the disco biscuits are playing in nyc the first weekend we're there, then everyone else is moving in, and i kind of want to go. i thought it might be too hectic or too much trouble to go to the city that weekend, but if anyone knows kinda pretty much how the system works to go to nyc and anyone wants to go to the show, then i think it would be fun.
