Zug Zug

Oh man, I'm caving and TOTALLY doing a play-by-play of my day. I've tried to NOT do that for NaBloPoMo, but heck, I'm tired and really not thinking straight.

I worked half a day and finished S3 of Supernatural. More thoughts on that tomorrow.

I got chauffered to my dentist and campus. I then had an extra two hours to squander on campus. Things went a little smoother than expected. I originally planned to go Downtown and buy stuff, but I decided against it.

I ended up talking to Awesome instead. Although it started out really awkward and quiet it ended being good because we got all the awkward things out of the way. Like gender, religion and ethnicity. Mostly because I flat out said "God, this is really awkward and annoying so I'm just gonna ask it!" We also geeked out over IB Extended Essays, helping little kids get interested in engineering and being unintentional racist dorks. The latter's interesting. We talked about how we joked all the time in High School about being an ethnic minority - and got away with it - but can't in University because there are too many white men around. He also told me about Tea Time. Yeah, that's right. HE'S AWESOME. And that's actually his name.

We then shuffled upstairs to help with a lab. And by help he poked around and fixed things while I distracted people and ate cookies. There was a minor hug-fest, beard grooming tips, more cookies and surprise hug-attacks.

After he and the guys left I proceeded to bother Amanda. WITH FREE PIZZA. It was pretty epic.

Then I cracked to work on the mixer. I met up with a lot of old pals. Most going "Geez, I haven't seen you all term." "Yeah, I'm working in Devon now. I'll be back next term." I then found the lone lady working for Stantec and minorly geeked out about how COOL building science is. We proceeded to talk about working in the industry, university programs, urban transport, mat leave and her sister. It was pretty cool. I then kinda sorta got promised a job shadow (WHICH WAS TOTALLY RAD!). Speaking of, I should probably email her about it.

Yeah, that was the fun stuff from tonight. Ima off to do real work. Cheers,

New Years!

Okay.... everyone home together (minus one sister) for two weeks is just asking for murder. My family's good, but we just irritate each other to no end. Y'can see why I really don't look forward to holidays unless I'm studying. That pretty much guarantees I get a free pass to stay in my room.

But when we go shopping things get a little more fun. After all, who doesn't like spending money?
Like... the prospect of getting a Wii this Friday when Best Buy is back in stock. :D
Oh, and did I mention I got a phone (finally!). It's a gorgeous LJ Rumour in Orange. ORANGE + GREY. Everyone's got blue, but I got orange. Oh, and the salesman totally didn't notice my radioactively clean orange coat. What a dum-dum.

OH WOW. SCHOOL. Yeah, being away from the interwebs means I was abnormally productive. I have most of my text books, my Google Calendar and Tasks List are all pumped and ready for the new term. I even cracked open a few (not one) of those books and got a head start. This could be the year I get straight A's. Maybe. Maybe Mat E will be a B. It's looking grim so far.

And yes, a week and a half of drafting and shopping means I have no clue what happened on the internets.
F-list, I need you tell me what happened to you all, the world and and comics. Preferably superheroes.

Elephant Gun is a really smashing song folks. And the music video is all artsy fun. Lots of flopping.

(And if anyone wants I've got the albums and some EPs of Beirut's. :D)

Whoa, maybe it's the school computers, but Youtube is very widescreen. Whut?

Oh, and the neighbourhood lake's got some loons frozen in it. Couldn't tell because they were on the opposite end. Why I was at the neighbourhood lake, I don't really know.

And for those who need humour, not love, here's Kali with some Watchemen.

I would laugh....

... but its soooo true.

After a while, though, it gets funny to the point it hurts.

But hey, only four more years 'till I'm done and I can get laid!*

*I blame this quote on Gabe. HIS FAULT COMPLETELY. *nods head*

EDIT:
Joe Q looks like a gutted frog in a recent video interview. It just makes me avoid Marvel more.

"I've got my mouth full/ of FETTUCCINE!"

I was attacked by my garage this weekend (oh yeah, it was a long weekend - Civic Holiday - but I still came into work to post. A measly "I'm alive!" post). I've got some gashes and slivers and bruises, but its alright now. At least, I think I don't have tetanus.

Not only was I abused by my garage, but the polisher at work decided my nails needed a file. A very uneven sharp file. Involving flying stainless steel. Really. IT was grand.

Ahhh. So what about me? Other than the injuries?
I've completely neglected to post and I'm actually working at work. Save when I'm blogging. ;P And the_newfrontier will be getting massively updated when I return from Ottawa (that should be 20 August). At least I hope. But during the trip I'll be chilling and mathin' it out in the back of the car, watching Bollywood (thanks Raj!) and reading Kirby.. And comics (thanks Sandy!). Man, this may be the best thing EVER. Oh, and FC #3 comes out! :D Oh man, I think that's the only current comic I'll read before the trip. T.T That blows.

What doesn't blow is SDCC. So much news from comics, movies and TV! WHEEEE. I'm still reeling from the shock of Flash: Rebirth, Batman in Dec. and Jan., and CARS*!!!

Oh, and I kinda have to tell my boss I'm dropping my project at the end of the summer. Wish me luck!

*this has nothing to do with SDCC. The "and CARS!!!" is a sill reference from the 8th grade involving Detroit. And the best alpha-male smack-down ever. Well, at least to me.

AHAHAHAHA. We're evil and stinkin' RICH!

Okay, I'm gonna be spewing out numbers like mad, and it may seem unimpressive to my American counterparts, but bear in mind Canada's population is only 30 million. We're TINY.

I've been researching numbers and they are AWESOME. Why? Because Alberta just got a $4.2 BILLION SURPLUS.

Yeah, that's not too impressive, Canada makes little under $2 Trillion every year. So let's have some stats to give some perspective.

Canada has three big money earners: Ontario, Quebec and Alberta. Their populations, respectively are 13 million, 7.7 million and 3.5 million. I live in Alberta, by the way and we are tiny. Edmonton and Calgary, our two 'big cities' just hit one million people each recently. :D

So 2008's surplus is about $1.2 B for every million Albertans. WOWEE. But not as impressive as 2006 ($8.7 B) and 2007 ($8.5B).

I only looked up Ontario and Alberta, but the budgets for them are $96.6 B and $38.6 B, respectively. That averages out to about 7 billion dollars for every million Ontarians, and 11 billion dollars for every million Albertan. Um, can anyone say PROSPERITY?

Scary fact: Alberta's 2006 growth rate is the largest growth rate of any Canadian Province in history? 12.6% Compare that to China's 14.8% growth rate.

Fun Fact: Alberta is rat-free.

Political fact: We've been run by conservatives for the past century. And each party will rule for a good twenty to thirty years before handing over the torch.

Scary Political Fact: We used to be run by farmers. I'm not bloody joking. United Farmers of Alberta.

I think I've exhausted my hometown pride for now.

Washington, D.C.

Okay, highlights of my trip:

We saw Wanted. In a basement movie theater. It was different, funny and vulgar. Same feel as the comic, even if the story was drastically different. And at the end, there's a nameplate for J.G. Millar. That made me laugh when NOBODY else did. It was kinda strange.

----

No, I didn't find the Hall of Justice. It would've been cool if I did, however.

----

My sister is AMAZING because she has comcast. That's right. COMCAST. So I saw some Gotham News. :D

----

There are so many trees in DC its like an infestation. I mean, the trees are all leafy, deciduous trees, so they take up a lot of room and look like they're about to explode out of the scenery. And you'd expect all these trees to give good shade, but I mostly got cool shade from buildings. Darn trees. Those oaks were only good for uneven pavement!

And that's all I can remember from my holiday.... Oh, and fireworks. They were quite American.

Temporary Hiatus

So in five hours I'm on a plane to DC to visit my sisters. I'll be in DC all week (yes, the Canadian Girl will be in Washington, DC for the Fourth of July) and be busy being a tourist. So I'll be catching up on back-logged posts, f-lists and what not next, next Monday.

In good news, I've got the ten gigs of music from my dad's computer on my own.

And I've FINALLY registered for the next school year and have one ugly schedule. No really. it ranges from 2-8 hours straight of lectures, labs and seminars. But I oddly like it. And now that I've registered, I can apply for loans. FREE MONEY!
