Dir en grey @ Pentaport - Incheon, Korea
I got there kinda late, like maybe around 7:40ish. Luckily, it was so easy to get to the Pentaport shuttles and then the people at the ticket counters spoke really good English. I don't know enough Korean to get by on my own yet with a lot of things. The crappy part was it took around 2 hours to get there as it's so far from Hoegi(the station closest to my dorm hall). I had to go from there to Geomam and that was around an hour and a half, then Pentaport shuttle. Basically too late to get merch but I mean I'll see them next month anyway so it's not that big a deal. I was too tired from Japan to really want to get there early.
At first I wasn't sure what stage to go to but then I saw George(one of the Diru roadies) on-stage and it felt like home. I ended up in around the 8th row but most people in front were girls and shorter. I wore boots just in case but honestly would've been fine without them. There were a lot more guys than what I'm used to at Jrock concerts and it was mainly a mix of Koreans and a few Japanese. I saw a white girl with blonde & blue hair there(being in Seoul so long..I kinda feel excited when I see someone non-Asian). I was around mostly guys and they were making fun of the girls screaming for whatever member. It was crowded but not squished together like in NYC and it made me feel more relaxed and less annoyed about seeing Dir en grey(I dread seeing them at times because of the crowd). Of course, the concert started around 15-20 minutes later than was listed. I ended up moving to next to the other white girl. As it got closer to starting, it got darker and for the first time in a long time; I could see the stars. For once, I got happy about it. I didn't think I'd miss them so much.
This was the setlist apparently:
Sa Bir
-ZAN- (epic live)
Agitated Screams of Maggots (I don't remember this and I thought they played Rasetsu Koku or something. Maybe it's just I hate Maggots so much.)
Hageshisa to, Kono Mune no Naka de Karamitsuita Shakunetsu no Yami (this was good live; first time I saw it live as it came it out in December)
Red Soil (Yep I remember.)
Gaika, Chinmoku ga Nemuru Koro (another song I can't stand really.)
Vinushka (always good live)
Inward Scream
Bugaboo (I kinda remember hearing this and I love this song)
Rotting Root
Shokubeni (okay)
OBSCURE (they always play this)
Inward Scream(Kyo was shirtless finally)
Dozing Green (yes <3)
The Final (always the best song live, and even in Korea everyone sings along)
Reiketsu Nariseba (if I ever hear this song live again someone will die.)
Saku (I can't remember if I'd ever heard this live before..maybe back in 2008?)
From where I was, I could see everyone. Shinya's hair is getting so long but it looks pretty. Toshiya looks the same as in November and he still hops around like that. Kaoru looks the same, as does Die(still wearing his favorite white tank-top). Kyo..I don't mind his black hair but the hair cut is atrocious. It looks too butch on him. He wasn't wearing a track suit, thankfully.
I posted some videos on facebook and will post some pics on there as well. They allowed pics with flash, even. On both sides of the stage there were screens as they took video of the band so even if you stood further away you could still just watch the screens and see fine.
The crowd..well, not pushy. There were some jumpers and those people annoy me but girls towards the front headbanged. The white girl next to me kinda did the same sorta things I like to do at concerts; so basically take pics, sing, headbang. Every once and a while we'd smile or laugh at random things other people were doing. I got drenched by water, though. And not from security people. People in the crowd just had water bottles and would use them around sometimes. It wasn't that hot out since it was at night and people weren't packed together. It felt awesome until the last time I got water in my eye.
For once I was on Kaoru/Toshiya's side, and it was my first time being there. I generally stick with Die(except for that Friday concert in NYC where I got shoved to Kyo's side). I just wanted to mix things up, but I think I like Die's side more. Kyo's side the most, but that's because I'm biased.
I felt more relaxed at this one and it kinda makes me dread seeing them next month because of the crowd but I suppose it'll be interesting(lol, crazy VIP tickets). But if I had the chance to see them in Asia again, I'd do it.
On the way back there was a rush to get to the shuttle and then the subway(the trains stop at midnight in Seoul which is stupid). Luckily I was able to get on in time and on the last transfer I had I sat next to a Korean girl that had gone for Dir en grey as well so we talked about them. Her English was kinda bad, but it was nice and I enjoyed it because there's nobody here to really talk to about Jrock. Rock music is the thing I simply miss here the most, so for me Pentaport was worth it even just for Dir en grey. Later this week I'll be seeing 2pm in Seoul. It'll be my first K-pop concert~
