T-shoits

Hi all. Just here to shill things, as is my selfish way.

I just set up a RedBubble account to showcase stuff I've designed lately, specifically things that work pretty well on t-shirts or as prints. My first two are up, mostly sitting there there unobserved in the t-shirt wilderness with tumbleweeds blowing by them. I feel one in particular deserves more notice as it is based on an Eddie Izzard reference and that just needs to be spread around no matter who made it.

First, you must know the reference in question, whether you're interested in a t-shirt or not. YOU MUST KNOW THIS ROUTINE.

Which resulted in the following:

I made this so we true believers could identify each other.

I've also gotten fascinated, thanks to a tutorial I tried, with making old-school DIY-looking gig posters, but for fake bands. cavalaxis gave me two great ones and a venue that makes absolutely no sense if you Google it and the following shirt/print happened:

Go take a look if you're inclined - just trying to clear away the tumbleweeds. Should be more designs soon. Purchase something if you're even more inclined and tell everybody where you got it. And look around at the other stuff people make - RedBubble's pretty dang cool.

But they ARE good...

Got this from a nice lady on Etsy*, and now I am going to wear it for the first time and spend the day fielding odd looks or "What does that mean?" questions or comments like "Wow, you must really like bananas, huh?" followed by suspicious squinting. *Sigh*. It can be hard to be true to your heroes.

*The lady in question runs an Etsy store called Geekiana and has many many different Whovian shirt selections. This style is currently on clearance for only $8! She only carries SML, but I usually need at least an XL and this L you're looking at fits me fine.

Last day to vote up my Doctor Who Pandoric t-shirt design submission on Threadless!

It's down to the wire (although I think it's doing well...but what do I know?) If you want to see my Doctor Who t-shirt design - featuring Eleven's Pandorica speech in the shape of the TARDIS - and you haven't already, please go to this addy - http://bit.ly/x1eTsi - and rate the design a big fat 5 or as close to that as you feel it deserves. (I'd never ask you to vote against your conscience.) If it gets a high enough percentage score and TPTB at Threadless deem it worthy, then we can all face the universe armed with a small screwdriver, overconfidence and this...shirt.

Here 'tis - vote like a stoat! [/cuteoverload.com reference]

Where's *my* TARDIS today?

Same place as usual, but because zazie11 and irrealia decided it would be cool to use Monday to take pics of your city and then post them, my copycat mode kicked in and here I am posting some of mine.  I didn't actually take any of these today (since I learned of the idea at 10:00 pm) but these are some of the most recent pics I've taken and their theme is they're all from downtown LA, where I was working nights for a few months.

Got canned from the gig, which was actually kind of a horrible place to be. Still, not nuts about it and having trouble coming to terms with it and what it might say about me these days -- specifically, my ability to suck it up and do what's needed to make the rent.  More and more as I get older, if I don't want to be somewhere I pretty much phone it in and passive-aggressively/subconsciously get myself fired, no matter how much I consciously tell myself I need to suck it up and stay.  My friend says it's healthy that I don't let myself endure some place that's doing me mental damage, but still...not all of these gigs I'm talking about are bad or abusive, and I feel like my performance, hirability and financial security is out of my own hands.

Hmm.  Didn't mean to go there with that, but thanks for reading anyway.

Downtown, things'll be great when you're DOWNtown...

I got a full-time gig in Downtown Los Angeles about two months ago, to go with my own web design business.  I’m only there at night so I can’t really enjoy the place much even though the minute I got here I realized I loved it and wanted to get to know it more than I ever had.  Pretty much every day I have the urge to move here.

I'm writing as fast as my employer(s) allow

For those of you waiting for the final installment of my Doctor Who fic "An Education," please be advised I'm working on it! In fact I'm making good progress. But I took on a full-time job recently to go WITH my freelance web design biz, so I'm essentially working two jobs and now most of my writing takes place during my luxurious :30 lunch breaks. :-/ (But I have 3 days off starting tomorrow! ::waggles eyebrows:: Fic will be perpetrated. )

RL friends, here's where you lose all hope for me.

I'm immersing myself in fannish things lately without really anywhere to squee/gripe/whatever about them except here on LJ. I've mostly been devoted to Facebook/Twitter where I can - in fact am forced to - talk about stuff that doesn't make up the seamy underbelly of my consciousness, stuff that isn't the intellectual/emotional equivalent of cross-dressing that I don't want non-fandom "civilians" to know about, but here? My geek flag can freely fly without fear of judgment - in fact, sometimes it gets saluted. I need that in my life again, lately. I think I will be taking advantage of it again.

So Bear friends and others...don't expect me to say anything for the foreseeable future that doesn't involve slavish devotion to a TV show and/or preoccupation with the fake emotional or romantic entanglements depicted therein. I hope you can look me in the eye from now on.

Anyway.

I was searching around for something on YouTube and came across this sort-of outtake from the Doctor Who episode "Human Nature." (It may be very old news for the diehards, but it's new to me.) The Doctor makes a tape of instructions for Martha to play on the TARDIS console, and in the episode she fast forwards past a lot of it and skips to the end. Well, they still needed to record something for her to skip, so they let David Tennant ad lib in the middle, and here is where I mention that DT is a fucking comic genius and this adds even more proof, as if we needed any - mostly I'm just floored by how seamlessly he snaps back into the scripted part at the end. Here's Martha's unexpurgated tape.
