It’s so natural to just reach for his hand, to drag Logan into her home. Like she’s been doing it for forever. She listens to him as she pulls the cookies from the oven, her mind drifting for a moment, dreaming up a wholly different but no less perfect scenario. One where she opens the door and instead of just dragging him inside, she jumps into his arms first, hugs him, peppers his face with little kisses before the timer interrupts them –
Liza’s pulled from her thoughts when she hears the fridge close after Logan’s put the milk away, her cheeks immediately pinking when he comes to stand beside her. But then he compliments how good it smells and she can’t stop the grin from pulling at her lips. “Thank you… it’s my grandma’s recipe. Super secret.” She teases, like the bag of Tollhouse chips isn’t sitting right on the counter, recipe-side up.
To be fair, it was the same recipe her grandma used.
When he pulls an ice cream scoop from his bag, she gapes for a second before looking up at him. “Okay… why have I never considered this before?” Liza says, watching as he drops the dough onto the pan. “Though, in my defense, there is something pleasantly methodical about rolling them the old fashioned way… but this is faster.” She smiles and leans her hip against the counter, watching him place the dough in neat little uniform scoops.
“Listen – you’re putting in at least a little of the work, and you brought over milk? It only seems fair that I share a little with you.” Liza says, not even bothering to hide her own smile before scooting around him to flick the light inside the oven on, checking the batch that was cooking. “Mm – trust me, I’ll swat one out of your hand when I think you’ve had enough. Though I gotta say,” she looks at him again, her smile turning a little playful. “For a guy who eats so many sweets, you either have a really good dentist, or a flawless dental hygiene routine.” Liza blushes again – sure, she could just as easily have said she likes his smile, but she likes to throw in the playful compliment.
