Membership Recruitment Coupon Toolkit

This toolkit equips AFP Chapter Leaders with the messaging, tools, and resources  to promote AFP Global membership coupons and Chapter membership coupons.

Why are membership coupons/discounts important?

1. Grow membership: Chapters can expand their networks by offering prospects a financial incentive to join.
2. Increase engagement: New members bring fresh ideas and energy, to chapter activities.
3. Support fundraising professionals: By removing a cost barrier, the coupon helps more professionals access AFP’s global resources, education, and community.
4. National reach, local impact: Every chapter benefits when global membership grows — more engaged professionals, stronger chapters, and greater visibility for the profession.

Instructions for Coupon Use

• The user/prospective member must create an AFP account.
• Once the account is created, they will need to navigate to the join/renew page.
• Select the appropriate Chapter.  *Note that coupons are only good for 1 year membership options.
• Complete the membership online form and enter the coupon code when prompted.
• The remaining balance will be shown.
• Coupons are not available on installment plans.

Key Messaging for Coupon Promotion 

• Market your chapters top member benefits and consider adding member testimonials alongside the coupon.
• Be sure to include any restrictions and deadline wherever the code is advertised. Most AFP Global Coupons are discounts off of professional and associate member categories for new members only.

• Include in Event Materials: Announce the offer during your program, in event slides, and in printed/virtual programs. Slide deck template here

• How often does AFP Global offer membership coupons?
  • AFP Global generally offers 2 bi-annual coupons for new professional and associate members:
    • Anniversary Coupon: June 1 – July 30
    • National Philanthropy Day (NPD) Coupon: October 1 – November 30
• Can we work with AFP Global to develop a coupon outside of the standard coupons? Yes, contact [email protected].
• Can current or expired members (renewals) use these standard coupons? No. If you have any special requests contact [email protected].
• Is the discount Global only or does it apply to chapter dues? These standard coupons apply to Global membership dues only.
• Can we create a chapter coupon to promote during the AFP Global coupon? Yes, contact [email protected]
• What happens if someone has trouble using the code? Contact [email protected]
• Can prospective members also use installment plans or multi year memberships plans alongside the standard coupons? No. These coupons are not to be combined with multi year memberships or installment plans.
