This program is provided through a generous gift from MJ Sorority to the AFA Foundation.
This course is designed to provide fraternity/sorority professionals with a synthesized and foundational understanding of prevention scholarship as well as a framework for application in their sphere of influence. Each week introduces learners to a new concept of the framework through flipped-classroom style assignments and scenario-based exercises. Learners then have an extended opportunity to apply those concepts to their work with colleagues, subject matter experts, and facilitators during a live virtual session each week.
Course Format
The Health Promotions course will be hybrid with a mix of self-directed and group-based learning opportunities. The asynchronous portions will focus on knowledge acquisition through a combination of lecturettes, advanced reading and assignments, interactive learning strategies, and scenario-based exercises. These sessions will vary in length from approximately 60-90 minutes, with the option to do additional supplemental work beyond that time frame.
The synchronous sessions will last 90 minutes and are intended to be driven by conversation and meaning making. Learners will have the opportunity to check their understanding through facilitated discussion, apply the concepts presented in the lesson to their organizational context, and work through the steps of the framework with colleagues. While tied to the information in the lesson, these sessions intentionally avoid lecture and their success is reliant upon the learners’ willingness to engage with the provided content ahead of time.
Program Dates
The summer 2026 cohort will launch on Friday, June 5. Live, virtual sync sessions will take place weekly on Thursdays, from 12:30pm – 2 p.m. ET beginning on Thursday, June 11 and continuing through Thursday, July 16.
Participants should anticipate spending 2-3 hours per week on asynchronous work and roughly 90 minutes per week in live, synchronous meetings.
NOTE: Virtual synchronous sessions will be recorded for participants who are unable to participate live. Participants are expected to attend at least four live, virtual sync sessions to receive credit for participating in the program.

Celebrating its 20th year in existence, the institute offers an intensive, multi-day training experience that prepares up to 60 participants to use the principles of prevention to address hazing in their community or organization. The program is interdisciplinary, welcoming participants from various roles across higher education, inter/national organizations, public safety, academia, and more. Participants include campus and organization professionals, and volunteers.
As a result of this program, participants will:
- Use a facilitator philosophy to guide our approach to hazing prevention.
- Cultivate support across an interdisciplinary network of stakeholders.
- Use data and research to identify the contributing factors to hazing.
- Critique and improve hazing prevention initiatives.
Registration opens March 1 and closes July 10 or once capacity is full; Synchronous sessions will meet July 21, 23, 28, and 30 from 12 to 4pm CDT each day.

The fee was established to address financial constraints caused by rising costs and to align Oregon State University with comparable peer institutions.

This interactive session explores the journey of rebuilding high-risk student organizations through the lens of university and headquarters professionals. Using Indiana University’s disciplinary status webpage as a launch point, participants will examine the real implications of terms like cease and desist and disciplinary probation, and what those designations mean beyond policy violations. Together, as a team (students, headquarters, and university) we’ll reframe these moments not as endpoints, but as the beginning of a long-term culture shift toward sustainable, values-based change. Through candid storytelling and shared experience, this session will illuminate how rebuilding efforts rely not just on institutional oversight or compliance, but on a committed partnership between students, their national organizations, and the university.

The First 90 Days program helps new fraternity/sorority professionals acclimate to one of the most unique roles in higher education. Through this 14-week intensive online program, participants will build their networks, learn how to put their expertise into practice, and better understand the scope of their positions.
During the program, participants will interact with a variety of colleagues – in their cohort and the fraternity/sorority profession broadly – to build a network of expertise that they can draw upon throughout their career. Through interactive virtual sessions, participants will learn and practice utilizing frameworks to address challenges in their role and integrate professional philosophy into daily practice as a fraternity/sorority professional. Through their participation in this program, professionals will be able to more clearly identify their continued professional development needs and aspirations beyond the program.
The First 90 Days is not necessarily a “crash course” in fraternity/sorority life. Instead, the program aims to equip participants with the knowledge and skills to think through situations they will experience in their day-to-day work as a fraternity/sorority professional.

This session which will explore how FSL members’ political identification, open-mindedness, and engagement in conversations across difference have evolved over time; and will offer a look into the complex ways identity, ideology, and affiliation intersect in FSL spaces. Participants will explore challenges and opportunities for FSL student leaders, advisors, and staff as they work to foster diverse and inclusive learning environments.
As a result of attending this program, attendees will…
- Learn about key trends in fraternity and sorority members’ political identification, open-mindedness, and engagement in conversations about and across difference
- Explore how fraternity and sorority environments shape students’ willingness and ability to engage across difference.
- Discuss strategies to foster more inclusive, dialogue-rich cultures within their chapters and communities.
