This is especially for those people who have never played the video game, but there are some changes that those who have played the game might want to note.
Gold Saucer is on the east continent. It is a very large structure, most like a space needle, and situated in the middle of a harsh desert. It can only be reached via a tram system, from the mountain town of North Corel. Gold Saucer is an amusement park, the only one on the planet. It is divided into several smaller worlds, called squares. (It's kind of like Disneyland…with violence.)
The squares are as follows:
Ghost Square: The theme of this square is horror. It features a haunted hotel, holographic ghosts, a mock cemetary and rides relating to it's theme.
Round Square: This square should be considered for couples in this rp. It features a tunnel of love, several fine resturants, and a large park, as well as a honeymoon hotel. There is also a chapel for fast weddings. (Drive thru, even!)
Speed Square: The main attraction here is a large rollar coaster that is also a shooting game. This square also features other carnival style rides.
Event Square: Special events only, ranging from theaterical performances to concernts.
Wonder Square: A very large aracde with many games and vaulable prizes. There are also dance clubs located here.
Chochobo Square: Home of the Gold Saucer Chochobo races, which run on a regualr basis, and a chocobo petting zoo. There are also casinos here and betting on the chochobo races is allowed.
Battle Square: The Battle Arenea is located here, where fighters can challenge each other for prizes. Weapons and armor shops can be found as here as well.
Soap Square: Spefic to this rp, Soap square is the adults' only sector of Gold Saucer. It features a hotel / brothel, resturants and sex clubs.
This is stricly for fun. Feel free to visit Gold Saucer whenever you need a change of pace.
Some additional information about magic, magic use and materia. Because normal materia is limited in number, there will be a NEW kind of materia introduced into the market: Grey materia.
Grey Materia
The origin of Grey materia is currently unknown. ShinRa disavows all knowledge of it's creation and disapproves of its use publically, though off the record, the Turks are allowed to use it in dire situations. It is sold only in black market venues, such as Wall Market.
Grey materia is a single spell materia. Unlike regular materia, which will develop stronger spells as it is used and divides itself when it reaches a certain level, Grey materia will never develop a better spell nor divide into a new orb. A Fire 1 Grey materia will always be cast Fire 1, regardless of the amount of times it's been used. Part of this is due to the fact that Grey materia has a limited number of spells it can cast; approximately 20 per orb.
Grey materia seems to be plentiful, so there is no mod-imposed limit on it. There are also may be spells from materia not listed in the main materia list for this game. Grey materia is cheap, starting at 1000 gil for level one spells, 1500 gil for level two and 2000 gil for level three. Level four spells are very rare and will be 3000 gil apiece; Level five spells are the rarest and cost 5000 gil apiece. Mostly Green materia spells, though there are some Yellow, Blue and Independent spells-- but no summons or rare will be publically available. Bold face are spells that were not previously available and are not availabe as regular materia.
With the influx of Grey Materia, magic use will probably increase. Magic can be used by anyone in the game. However, the use of magic drains one's enegry. It can be recovered by rest.
Still, there are those who are better at fighting and those who are better at using magic. It's a trade off -- one can not excel at both. You are either an excellent fighter and a medicore magic user, or an excellent magic user and a so-so fighter, or average at both. An excellent magic user can cast spells more frequently than an average or medocre and has a better chance of them hitting for full damage, but may not be that great at fighting or combat defense.
Using materia / magic requires having a piece of equipment that possess materia slots. These are small holes in the hilt of a weapon or in armor. This type of weaponry is techincally as illegal as possessing regular materia, however there are still weapon makers who can do custom work and modify weaponary or armor to fit materia. It can cost about half as much to triple the price of regular armor, depending on the number of slots added to the weapon or armor.
It's been about two weeks, and I think that everyone who was going to vote has be now. Thus, the poll is closed. Any further votes to it will not be counted. At the moment, we still have eleven people interested in the game. Here's a breakdown of the votes that we received in the past month, not only on the poll posted here but the intial one I posted on my own journal. (Said journal is completely under friends' lock, or I would link to it…)
Things that have happened include various chocobo races throughout the world, including a recent one this past month near Icicle Inn. There was an assassination attempt on Rufus ShinRa, handled by the Turks (and for game purposes, the culprit has been apprehended). The city of Edge has been growing, and there has been a slow down on the rebuilding of Midgar. Current rumors include that Midgar will not be rebuilt any further due to the cost; it's apparently draining ShinRa's limited funds. Instead, focus has shifted to Edge and many people from the upper levels of Midgar are slowly trickling into the new city. Those from the lower levels, that can afford it, are going as well.
Midgar is getting more desolute. However, ShinRa's power base is not what it used to be and new powers are rising out of the ruin left by Metoer. While ShinRa struggles to regain control, there are other people coming into play. Names that will be drifting through the rumor mill include Dr. Aoi Hanamura, Dr. Sumire Ryuzaki, Tarou Sakaki and Don Corneo II.
As mentioned in the NPCs, characters can be employed and should look for work. Opportunities vary depending on skill, but as mentioned above, there is a chance to be a member of SOLDIER, or hired help for either the Turks, Sakaki's personal bodyguard, or office work with Ryuzaki. Thugs and mercaneies can consider working for the Don in Wall Market, or acting as escorts / runners for traders and travellers. Of course, there are black marketeers, prostitutes (both in the forms of streetwalkers and brothels), hustlers, gamblers, and cage-match fighters.

I will cleaning up the friends' builder, comm memberships and information, and contact information within the next week. We would like to have new journals / profiles / etc by the beginning of February for the restart, but if something triggers your character wanting to start posting sooner, by all means, go on ahead. Journals of current players will be left on the comm, even if you are creating a new journal for an old character or dropping a current character for a different one, so that you may still see the friends' only information.
Yes, one of the mods live. All of us, really, and we have been discussing what to do, if we wanted to keep the game going or give it up in favor of our other billion or so muses. Obviously, we'd like to keep it. Two of the biggest things we are considering are completely restarting (which would involve letting people rethink their own charas and recreate them, keeping whatever backstory they like and dropping the rest) and making the came private (which mean no more applying for characters, invitation only; it would also remove character limits).
However, it's been long enough that now we have to wonder -- who's still here, who's still interested, and what do they want to do?

Should the game continue as a public game (apps open to all) or would it better to go private (no application, players have as many chara as they like, invites based on who you want to play with)?
I meant to do this sooner, but as with many things, put it off in favor of thinking I'd get around to it. >> Amazing what I can convince myself of... However, my school semester has started -- senior of college, plus getting ready for grad school -- and I'm more than a bit harried. Have been all summer.
Don't pick academia as a career choice is all I can say.
Regardless, I am officially putting my muses on hiatus until this semester ends because this will be the hardest that I have left. I am leavling modly duties in the hands of Dare (Shinji and Oshitari) and our third mod, Gottis (Eiji and Fuji, newly added and like many things, something I meant to mention sooner but didn't. >>) Yes, I suck at modding. :D
Kamio will be brooding and doing whatever Shinji or Oshitari see fit, Inui will continue to be crazy off in his own little world. I hope to be back sometime in December, when grad apps are in and classes are over.

As I'm sure many of you already know, I'm off to Canada for six weeks on Tuesday. And since I have yet to start packing Shh, I know I'm a horrible procrastinator I'll be starting my lovely semi-hiatus now.
Tezuka and the An will be going about their normal lives. Tezuka's home and doing, um, stuff. An's moving into some apartment paid for by a lovely rich guy who's taken her on as his mistress.
Anyone I owe tags to, email me and I'll get to it as soon a possible. Chances are, I'll have net access most of the time so I won't really be around any less than usual. And I'll try and get them an update each before I leave.
Apologies to those in multiple games who get this note many times.
Considering I forgot to even check this comm for about a month and have no motivation to do so in the future, I think I'm going to have to cop out. It's been fun while it lasted!
