Eli Whitney students are nontraditional students with exceptional backgrounds and aspirations.

The Eli Whitney Students Program is for individuals without a bachelor’s degree who have been out of high school for at least five years. 

The Eli Whitney Students Program is fully integrated within Yale College. Eli Whitney students take the same in-person classes and have access to the same majors, faculty, extracurricular activities, research opportunities and international experiences as other undergraduates.

    Yale meets 100% of financial need with scholarship grants up to the full cost of attendance. 

  • Military community

    Nearly half of all Eli Whitney Students are veterans or active service members.

  • Flexible by design

    The Eli Whitney program is designed for adult learners, with the flexibility to enroll full-time or part-time.

  • The full Yale experience

    Eli Whitney students enroll in the same in-person courses and earn the same degrees as traditional students.

Tuition and financial aid

Yale offers generous need-based financial aid to eligible Eli Whitney students, meeting the full demonstrated financial of every student with scholarships. Financial aid offers are designed to cover the full cost of attendance: tuition, fees, housing, food, and estimates for course material, personal expenses, and travel.

Eli Whitney students are charged on a full-time or half-time basis depending on the number of credits enrolled.

Eligible veterans of the U.S. military may choose to use their veteran education benefits and Yale’s need-based financial aid.
