Fespaco has never awarded a top prize to a female director.
FESPACO was founded in 1969 in Ouagadougou, the capital city of Upper Volta, which became Burkina Faso in 1984.
FESPACO prize for film that tells a positive story of Africa the Cameroonian's Miraculous Weapons, produced by Jean-Pierre Bekolo, was judged to be the film giving the most positive image of Africa, at the influential 2019 Festival Panafricain du Cinema et de la Television de Ougadougou (
FESPACO).
The OIC Intergovernmental Expert Group Meeting (IEGM) will come up with the criteria of establishing the OIC Prize and on rewarding the best cinematographic productions to be rewarded during the upcoming
FESPACO to take place in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso in February 2019.

FESPACO (Panafrican Film and Television Festival of Ouagadougou) and in the number of publications by critics and academics every year.
Amongst many other prizes, the film won the Bronze Stallion at the PanAfrican Film & TV Festival of Ouagadougou (
FESPACO) in 2013.
Burkina Faso, known for its
FESPACO film festival, still has policies for training and production support.
