my fav part of following you is learning random things about arthurian lore/legends its great. whats a tidbit thats on ur mind lately??
Indeg. She is mentioned in passing in a lot of famous early Welsh works, including the Welsh Triads and Culhwch and Olwen. She was the daughter of a character famous for being an excellent lover and she was one of Arthur’s mistresses and used as a comparative standard of female beauty in medieval Welsh works but a complete version of her story (and the way Arthur wooed her) has not survived. It is implied she lost her mind and went mad somewhere in the story and likely near the end of her life. It is so haunting to have fragments of her, a character known for centuries for her exceptional beauty, a woman who wore a gold torc at court, a woman who is implied to be exceptionally charming, someone who King Arthur had to woo and who lost her mind in the end. It ends poorly for them all.
Did you know female cats are more prolific hunters than male cats? I knew that was true for lions but it is also true for domestic cats. This tracks with the cats I’ve owned. Dorian and Sinatra are beautiful lazy bastards but Odette is a budding serial killer, Tommy was always on the prowl and Philomena is very vigilant. Anyway, keep your cats sprayed/neutered and inside regardless of gender but if you’re looking for a mouser in particular, there is some scientific evidence a girl will do a better job.
The only cat to drop a dead mouse on my bed was female so #girlpower I guess.
To be clear, most/all cats have a drive to hunt and personality plays a large part in how good they are at it. All cats pose a danger to small wildlife and there are male cats that are excellent hunters and female cats that are terrible hunters. Statistically, female cats tend to be more proficient and prolific in the studies that have been done, likely an evolutionary development because they need more calories to feed their young though it seems like spaying does not have an effect on their prey drive.
If an ex asks you to pay them back the money they VOLUNTARILY spent on dating you (restaurant tabs, gifts, transportation costs to come see you etc.) you are under no legal or moral obligation to repay them. Block them. Redpilled manosphere dudes love to pull this shit because they see dating as transactional and think you owe them your body or pleasantries because they paid for an Applebees appetizer one time. Talking about splitting meal costs and transportation costs is something you do when you’re dating a person, not a penalty you charge them because things did not work out.
On a semi-related note, the person who invited someone out is traditionally expected to pay so if you ask someone on a date, be prepared to be the one to pay. Adjust expectations to your income level and never spend more on gifts and experiences for a partner than you can afford. If your partner is pressuring you to buy them things/pay for things you cannot comfortably afford/don’t want to pay for in a casual relationship, rethink your relationship. The time for the finances discussion is while you are still dating, not after you break up and you have hurt feelings and regret spending that money and want them to Venmo you $200 or whatever.
other hagiographies: He resisted the pagans and died peacefully in his cell in the monastery.
Celtic hagiographies: His mother was thrown into the ocean when she was pregnant with him. He washed ashore in Rhyl. As a young man, he got into a fight with the pagan chieftain of North Wales and his legs were cut off, his arms were cut off, his head was cut off, he put himself back together and founded 3 monasteries and then placed a curse on the Picts. He performed communion for trout. He was very briefly a Knight of the Round Table. He converted a mermaid to Catholicism. He retired to Ynys Enlli and died fighting marauders at the age of 89.
the media and transphobes will be like “look at this evil transgender person who committed this atrocious crime” and the person is straight up not transgender. not in a ‘No True Scotsman’ way but they’ve genuinely never identified as transgender. that’s just something transphobes have decided they are because they’re vaguely GNC. wild.
frankly do not care if its unhygienic my puppy has an absurdly long nose and i Will be kissing it

The Wart's own special one [dog in the castle kennel] was called Cavall, and he happened to be licking Cavall's nose—not the other way about—when Merlyn came in and found him. "That will come to be regarded as an insanitary habit," said Merlyn, "though I cannot see it myself. After all, God made the creature's nose just as well as he made your tongue. "If not better," added the philosopher pensively.

(defense) attorney culture is like the opposite of cop culture. lawyers hate all other lawyers with a barely concealed passion, yes, even their partners at the law firm. no solidarity, 85% drama and 15% social niceties. they’ll hang out together socially on occasion but they hate each other to their core. they’re like betta fish.
cop: Officer Misconduct would do that, he’s a good lawman, he was the best man at my wedding and I’m lucky to have known him.
doctor: I’ve worked with my colleague, Dr. Malpractice, for 15 years now and I have never witnessed the behavior you are describing.
defense attorney: Yeah, that sounds like something that stupid bastard would try. He doesn’t have the good sense to navigate his way out of a wet cardboard box, much less construct a sound legal defense. He has the integrity of a fucking gnat too. When we were in law school 35 years ago, he barfed in the back seat of my Mercedes after a night out and he never paid to get it cleaned. Even his wife can’t stand him. Fucker. I hate that guy.
Aaron Burr & Alexander Hamilton were defense co-counsel on a murder trial 4 years before the duel.
This is because cops and doctors are fundamentally deferrential to their sources of authority. Lawyers are different. The purpose of a lawyer is to challenge authority.
Exactly. Thats why I specified defense attorneys (and corporate law, family law, estate and injury/employment, to different degrees) and not prosecuting attorneys, those guys can be suspiciously friendly…
Story about a (potentially evil?) mushroom experience I had if you're interested! CW for mental health issues and locally legal substance use, discussed lightheartedly. It is a long one, and feel free not to answer for any reason :)
A couple years ago I was taking Lion's Mane and Cordyceps mixed with 1mg THC as a nootropic supplement made at a local shop, along with my regular ADHD medication. I'd had no prior issues with those meds or THC/mixing the two occasionally (nobody told me that wasn't super safe, I do NOT recommend since learning more about that), but about a year into those supplements, I went into severe manic psychosis. I got a diagnosis of bipolar 1 disorder (which my dad has, so it is entirely possible I just got unlucky with genetics) at a mental health facility. By the time I recovered enough to go see my regular psychiatrist, his opinion was that the combination of all three was what sent my brain over the edge, citing how little research has been done on the drug interactions at play with supposedly non-psychoactive mushrooms. "Who really knows what those things actually do?" were his exact words on his final conclusion about that lol. I was on the lowest dose of ADHD med, and always took it as prescribed, so everyone who treated me found it really strange that it could have possibly triggered a first-time episode that bad, even paired with the small amount of THC I was having. I legit went off the deep end into outright hallucinations for weeks. I was tripping balls even after being pulled off of everything and put on antipsychotics, mood stabilizers, etc, straight up talking to people who didn't exist and convinced aliens from an alternate universe were after me. I was in another world altogether for a month and a half because nothing they treated me with started working in the time frame they expected.
So, long story short, my psychiatrist and I are convinced that the humble mushrooms somehow interacted so badly over time with the other stuff that it finally made me lose my mind. He isn't even fully convinced I actually have bipolar disorder because that's been my one and only manic/psychotic episode, it was triggered chemically, and, although THC can be a psychosis trigger even w/o ADHD meds, I've had zero problems from regularly consuming higher amounts via concentrate over the last year for unrelated chronic pain... but we're both too scared to test the theory by easing down my prevention meds because mania or no mania is a high-stakes gamble 😅😂
Mushrooms evil? I believe it lmao. Fungi is fascinating but terrifying. I'm in a good place mentally now btw, so no worries, just made me scared of eating mushrooms xD
Reading this ask right on my ADHD medication after I had finished my mushroom coffee was like a ‘ruh-roh’ moment LMFAO. All jokes aside, that is so scary! I hope that it was a bad mushroom effect and you never have to experience something like that again.
Many/most of the mushrooms in mushroom supplements on the mass market have been used in traditional medicine for a long time indicating they do have some sort of effect neurochemistry, even if there have not been advanced studies into the mechanism and nature of their effect on the brain and body. Additionally, because supplements are not well regulated, there have been multiple cases of heavy metal poisoning from mushroom supplements OR mushrooms being mislabeled/marketed as a different species.
Psilocybin, the compound in magic mushrooms, is responsible for 18-20% of hallucinogen-induced psychosis cases, higher than the rate of cannabis induced psychosis. I think it is entirely possible there are other psychoactive compounds in mushrooms that can spontaneously trigger something similar to hallucinogen-induced psychosis in rare cases, perhaps even in commonly used mushroom supplements. Or, since you were taking the supplement with your ADHD meds and THC for some time, there is a possibility the batch you purchased was contaminated with another mushroom that is less well tolerated.
Or it really was a long term multi-drug interaction that coincided with the onset of a psychiatric disorder you were genetically predisposed to. Spaghetti on the wall thinking on my part, I’d wager your psychiatrist knows best.
Either way, that sounds like a terrifying experience and I’m glad you’ve recovered. Mushrooms are so weird and we know so little about them in the grand scheme of things. I doubt I’ll repurchase this mushroom coffee.
when you’re checking the news and it’s gut punch after gut punch, ‘we are so beyond fucked’ type stuff and then there is an article about a truck spilling 2 tons of squid on the road in Rhode Island and you’re like “damn that’s crazy”
“I don’t know if I will ever see peace in my lifetime. I am so scared for the future and so angry at the present. I weep for humanity- 2 TONS? OF SQUID?”
This is why I get all my news from Tumblr, The Daily Show, and John Oliver.
Don’t. I have been spreading misinformation. It was actually 20 tons of squid. Not 2 tons. 40,000 pounds of squid. Astronomical unfathomable amount of squid.
Reminds me of last year when a semi crashed into a creek in Oregon and spilled out 100k live salmon
that rocks. seafood disaster GOOD ending
I don't have proof but the salmon planned it
They were adolescent captive-bred native chinook salmon on their way to be released in stocked fishing areas (so fishermen can fish to their heart’s delight without hurting the native population) so they did a prison break when they were already on their way to freedom. The Department of Fish and Wildlife employee who was driving was okay. It is hilarious that the salmon were like “Mmm. Actually, I think this is our stop. This looks like a nice place to live. We’re getting off here.”
I’m a grown adult man and every once in a while I look up mopping tutorials just to see if someone has figured out a better way yet.
‘so clean you can/could eat off it’ is an idiom, primarily in American English it seems, usually describing a surface that is new or has been thoroughly and freshly cleaned and is presently without a speck of dirt. you wouldn’t actually eat food off the floor or the hood of your car or your bathroom counter but if you’ve just deep cleaned and mopped your floors you might say the floors are so clean you could eat off them.
Pro-censorship wattpad refugees drama is so funny to me because when I started using ao3 as a kid I was a devout mormon and I thought that reading anything even remotely pornagraphic was a sin and would ruin my life. So when I was 13 and found ao3 I went "oh awesome I found a fanfic website with a filtering system so I won't ever randomly stumble into porn. This is great! I was really worried about seeing something I didn't want to see on the other platforms." I didn't read any smut online until like three years later. If a mormon 13 year old can figure out 'don't like don't read' wattpad users can too cmon you guys i believe in you.
Good news to get you through August 2026.
had to share this
In every way this is set up to be a joke like any other short video, it even uses the trope of main character in a wig to represent their mom, but it isn't funny at all. It's just sweet and nice
