Sick Day (fanfic)

This is a short fanfic I wrote last night.

Sick Day

Mark awoke to a very annoying tapping sound. He was sure it wasn't his mother. After realising he was sick she had given him breakfast and medicine and told him to go to sleep.
"Go away!" he moaned sleepily, and pulled the blanket over his aching head. His throat hurt and he coughed a little bit.
He heard a vaguely familiar voice calling him quietly. "Mark. Mark."
"Leave me alone," he muttered, curling up onto his side. Someone lifted the blanket from his head.
"Mark!" the voice was sharper and louder now. It took him a minute to recognise it. It was Ace.
"What do you want?" Mark said. He would have sat up, but the blankets were so warm, his head throbbed in time with his heartbeat and he didn't want to move.
"Lord Fear has Sparx. We need to get her back." Ace said quietly, but urgently.
"Sorry, Ace. I'm sick. I can't do anything."
"Sick?" Ace asked curiously.
Did Lightning Knights get sick? Probably not. He was sure he would have heard about it by now if they did, and it would make it hard to beat the bad guys and rescue people if they were randomly stuck in bed. It might be useful to accidentally-on-purpose give the bad guys the flu, though. Sneeze. Oops, sorry. Have fun with your new flu.
"Head hurts. Throat hurts. Really tired. Leave me alone." He pulled the blanket back over his head.
"Oh. Is that bad?" Ace asked. He didn't really understand. He would put it down to one of those human things that he would figure out later. "Will you get better? Do you need to charge up?"
"Am charging up. Resting," Mark muttered from under the blanket.
"How long will that take?" Ace asked.
"Dunno."
Ace sighed. "Don't worry. I'll find a way to get Sparx back. Random might help."
Mark muttered something incomprehensible even to himself and promptly fell asleep again.

Much later, Mark woke up. He was feeling better. His head still hurt, but it was manageable as long as he didn't try anything too difficult like standing up. He yawned and winced when his throat hurt. He turned towards where his mother always left a glass of water when he was sick and found that the glass of water wasn't alone. There was a small piece of paper. Mark reached out and took the paper to read it. It said "Get well soon. From Ace and Sparx".
Mark smiled. Ace had rescued Sparx, then. It was nice of him to leave the note and let him know. He would have to thank him for it later. He curled up in his blankets again, feeling better, and not just because of his head and throat.

End.
