Sprocket's back!

Okay, finished this fic. Random finally gets his kitty back!!!!! ^_^ *falls over*

Yes, just read it. :P

Random rolled between the two piles of junk, for what must have been the tenth time. Why had he even suggested this? Sprocket would probably run as soon as he saw him. He did miss the cat. Even though he kept telling himself it was just a cat. At least he’d be able to know that he’d be better off somewhere else. And to say goodbye. Who needs to say goodbye to a cat?

He heard the whine of the Lightning Flash and looked up to see Mark walking in, closely followed by Sparx.

“Sparx, you don’t need to fly so close behind me,” Mark was grumbling.

“Hey, you said Random wanted someone to keep you safe. That’s what I’m doing!”

Mark rolled his eyes.

Random stopped ‘pacing’ and turned around to face them. “Let’s just make this quick, alright?”

“Hi to you too, lugnut.”

“Yeah, alright.” Mark carried a basket in his hand. He placed it on the floor, and tried to open the latch.

Sprocket started crying, and pawed at Mark through the bars.

“Yeah, okay, I’m opening it!” he grumbled. He finally managed to get the door open.

Sprocket sprang out, somehow managing to nearly land on Mark in the process.

“Ow!” said Mark as the cat skidded down his leg and landed on the ground.

Sprocket ignored him and shook himself. He didn’t really like being cooped up.

“Doesn’t seem to like you, Mark,” said Sparx, just watching him.

“Really?”

Random swallowed nervously. Sprocket hadn’t even seen him just yet. Part of him wanted the cat to just look at him, turn tail and run. The other just wanted it back.

“Sprocket…”

The cat started and looked up at him. And if a cat could express emotions, Random could’ve sworn it looked surprised, and then… happy to see him?

“Mew!” squawked Sprocket. He covered the distance between him and Random in less than a second, hurled himself onto Random’s wheel and propped his paws up on him.

Random just stared at him. He wanted to reach out and touch him but he was almost afraid too.

“He doesn’t look scared to me,” said Mark. “Somehow, I think he missed you a little.”

“He’s… supposed to be afraid…”

Sprocket pawed Random’s jacket some more. “Mew!”

“Well, he’s not.”

Random slowly reached out his left hand to Sprocket. As soon it got close enough Sprocket rubbed up against it and started purring. Random couldn’t help smiling.

“Gah!” said Sparx. “You’re as bad as Ace! At least he can blame human emotions.”

“I think he’d rather stay with you, Random,” said Mark, then added: “I’d rather he stayed with you…”

“I just don’t want to hurt him again. I still don’t understand why he still trusts me.”

“Maybe he knows you didn’t really mean it.”

Random paused. He could go into the whole, ‘no, but my evil side meant it’ again. But he regretted it, and he certainly didn’t mean it now. He looked down at Sprocket. “You are one stupid furball.”

“Merowh!” said Sprocket. He’d had enough of being patted and ran off. He found an old car tire and began to sharpen his claws on it.

“No wonder his claws are so sharp…” muttered Mark, rubbing his arm. He supposed he should be grateful Sprocket hadn’t attacked the furniture as well.

“Ah… sorry about that…” Random smiled, still watching Sprocket.

“Good thing you didn’t keep the cat, Mark,” laughed Sparx, “or you’d end up looking like a pin cushion.”

“Very funny…” Mark glared at Sparx.

“Right then,” Sparx continued. “I have to finish packing… and find my toothbrush… Later!” She whizzed off into the sky on the Lightning Flash.

“Guess I’d better go then,” said Mark turning to leave.

“Wait…” Random paused. “Thanks, kid. For looking after Sprocket. I know it probably wasn’t easy.”

“No problem. I was just trying to help.”

“Well, thanks anyway. It… means a lot.”

Mark smiled. “It’d better. I’d hate to think I’d put up with being Sprocket’s personal scratching post for nothing.”

“Go on, get out of here,” growled Random, but he was smiling as he said it.

“Right, bye.” Mark left.

Random watched him leave, then looked around for Sprocket. Where had that cat gone?

Behind Random, Sprocket sat on a large stack of junk. He crouched down, an almost devious look crossing across his face, and then launched himself at the cyborg’s back with a loud “Merowh!”
