ok so. theoretically and totally hypothetically and definitely not in a i-already-have-a-chapter-and-a-half-written kind of way. how many of you would be interested in a les amis modern au fic where enjolras learns to detach his worth from how much change hes able to bring about after a failed protest (that 100% doesnt mirror the rebellion in a super obvious way) leaves him and his friends pretty beaten. it assuredly will explore enjolras letting himself be happy and experience human connection and being satisfied even when hes not acting towards The Cause™️. theoretically and hypothetically of course.

Summary:

After an unsuccessful protest leaves Les Amis battered and bruised, Enjolras seems to take the brunt of the group's fall. He finds himself forced to confront his own self-worth issues and with help from his friends, learns to allow himself to invest energy in things for the sake of human connection, experience and joy.

Where on earth did Enjolras get that fun red and gold vest he wears during act II? Did he already have it? Was it pilfered from a national guardsman? Is that his special revolution outfit? Truly where did he get it, because it’s not at all what the average student in the 1830s would be wearing day-to-day. It honestly looks like a military uniform with the sleeves cut off, which makes me think he took some guys jacket during the riots and then was like “these sleeves are too restrictive” and then Grantaire was like “yeah you should just rip them off. It’s way more practical really. Wow yeah that’s a great idea you should do that.”
