Have you ever heard this song? I'm sure you have. It's been played on the radio numerous times and even played on channels such as MTV and VH1 in the mornings. If you listen to the lyrics of this song for the first time, they might not make any sense. But to each his own and everyone has their own interpretation of music. Many think "Only foreign music can have a translation." That is not true. Sure, foreign music can be translated if you listen to it..only if you can actually understand that language, but what about the people who will listen to anything? even something they don't understand. Like myself, I will listen to anything. I may be able to translate the Spanish songs into English if I wanted to, but why would I? By translating the songs, they lose their meanings. They lose the entire meaning that the artist was trying to convey. You're changing what they felt. Nothing can every be fully translated without something being mistranslated. Just listen to the music in its original state, even if you cant understand it. Just have appreciation for the music that people have created.
People try to relate to lyrics all the time. Sure it's easy when the lyrics are in English, but somehow I find ways to relate to music that is in Japanese, Korean, French, etc. (and I dont' really speak any of those languages). You shouldn't just listen to the words and then criticize someone for writing songs in another language without providing a translation. That's just ignorant. The song is what it is. Don't try to change it. Don't think that they only way you can relate to a song is to listen to the lyrics. Lyrics dont' always make the song. Sometimes you don't even need to understand the lyrics in order to understand the emotion that is coming from the song. The music itself can help. Don't rely only on lyrics. Like Dir en Grey's song "Grief". I have no idea what the lyrics mean but from how the lyrics are used in corresponding with the way the music is played, you can easily tell that the song is angry, violent and has a somewhat depressing tone to it. But I didnt learn this from the lyrics. No. I learned this from the music.
Even English lyrics get "lost in translation" so to speak. Sometimes the listeners may not fully catch what the artist is trying to convey through a certain song and many translations about what the song may arise. Although some songs do have multiple meanings.
Alas, I am rambling. Although all of this is relevant.
The main reason I wrote this entry was to talk about one song. Soul Meets Body by Death Cab for Cutie. A very calm song, indeed. Last night I was talking with my friend, Lynnie, about music and such. We came upon the subject of Death Cab for Cutie. I asked her a simple question. What do you imagine or see when you hear this song? She said she imagined a desert. At first I didn't understand why she would think of a desert, but a lyric in the song mentioned a greyhound station. So she sees a greyhound station in the middle of the desert. I never imagined a desert. For me, I always felt like i should be snowboarding down a mountain with no one else around where the sun is just rising up from behind the mountains. Or I imagine that I would be walking through the snow just taking everything in. I realized there was a difference in the way we imagined...and I'm not just talking about the images produced, but how we came upon those images. She saw a desert because of the lyric "greyhound station". I saw snow: cold and calm. Somehow I make the lyrics relate to this but I only imagined the snow from the music. The music made me think of snow, a pure, cold substance that seems calming to me. No one was around. It was just quiet.
This is the entire point of music. For each person to come up with their own "translation" and if you happen to have the same "translation" as the person who wrote it then you can see and feel their soul. You would know what they were feeling. But this varies from person to person. I hate it when people say they would rather have the translated version of the song, than the original. I always ask "Why?" and they always give me the same answer, "Because I can't understand it." So? You may not understand it, but they do. The person who wrote it does. They know exactly what they wrote, they know exactly what emotion they felt while writing it. Don't take that away. By translating the songs...they lose the raw emotion.
Don't change it. Leave it be. It's perfect the way it is.

well last night was graduation for the class of 2007 woo. ^_^ i went just to see all my senior friends graduate and i left right afterwards because i thought well they wouldnt want me here. no big deal right? i was just going to go see them graduate and leave because i felt of no importance being there i was alone the entire time just watching them all go up one by one. so i leave after its over and as soon as i get home i get a bunch of phones calls asking "where are you?" i guess people do care but its my fault for leaving i didnt think i was wanted around...but thats just how i think but i was wrong people do care whether i believe it or not. its just sometimes i feel unwanted and last night i felt kind of unwanted and out of place. but as soon as i got home that feeling of unwanted-ness went away but i still felt bad since people were looking for me. i just thought for that one moment that i wasnt needed there so i left...boy was i ever wrong.
The only thing that can keep you from enjoying all that you already are is a thought. One thought. Your thought. Not someone else`s thought. Your thought... Whatever you are thinking at the moment that feels more important to think than feeling grateful, alive, content, joyful, optimistic, loving, and at peace.... That`s the only think that`s between you and happiness.
yea that one thought that i had made me go home. but what's done is done. i should learn that people actually do want me around...for the most part anyways.
well it has been many months...i mean i use my LJ i just dont post entries :P
anywho a lot has happened yet i dont feel like explaining at all but i have come to the conclusion as of today that i'm going to write a novel and Lor is going to be my editor....because i'm horrible with punctuation :P
it will be an amazing novel that will later be made into a movie produced by Lenny ^_^
well at least it gives me something to do this summer :)
For some odd reason i've been hearing a lot about Pandora's Box...it was in this book i read the other day and we've been talking about it in TOK. Anway quick update...i changed my layout again YAY although i need to fix the background cause the pic turned out to pixelated for my taste but i'll mess around with it later. Enjoy!!
I actually went...scary isnt it? @_@ Anyway it was actually really fun i was with joey, cristina, cassandra, rachel and a whole bunch of other people...steph found me before anyone cause my hair kinda stands out :)But anywho just thought i would update cause i'm bored and this was my first football game....i have absolutely no school spirit haha. but yea i'm done rambling i think only like 2 people read this anyway so yea :P
And again...I'm back hehe. But yea i'm really just randomly updating...as you can see i made a new layout ^_^ yay for new layouts but good news i pulled off an A in English *claps* so i'm happy....^_^
wow it's been awhile since i updated haha..i tend to forget about this thing haha...so let's see summers almost over T_T i don't want to go back to school and yet i do...i'm kinda bored sitting here at home. However, i'm going to orlando for the next two days so yay for me ^_^
yesterday and the day before Stephie stayed over..we watched amazing uncut naruto ^_^ and had more deep conversations...we always seem to do that then we went to countryside mall and bought awesome stuff there that owns everyone else...speaking of owning we took amazing pictures of stuff cause we are crazy like that ^_^ well that's all i'm gonna say for now i guess cause i need to get these pics off my camera haha
it really does like who of your "friends" are actually friends that care. *sigh* I realized that truthfully i may have "friends" but i only have like 2 true honest to God friends. Sad isn't it. O well I will deal with it. See Stephie punctuation...I do believe in commas I do, I do. hehe
Anywho back to what i was talking about i just felt like adding in that little tid bit. But sadly two true friends they know who they are although one of them doesn't have a livejournal haha.
But I guess i should say what went on this week, first day of volunteering at the Holocaust Museum on Wednesday it was a lot of fun I got to do admissions Stephie did the gift shop...she got sent on a secret mission *shhhh*. ^___^ it was fun. Thursday I didn't do anything haha literally nothing. Tuesday Steph and I went to the mall and then saw RV which is a really funny movie.
X3 came out today ya know I'll see it sooner or later maybe today, i don't know i go where i want when i please...such is my life. Or maybe I'll see Over the Hedge...it looks cute.
But i must say The Da Vinci Code was pure brilliance.
