Donations from individuals and organizations are essential to BHL’s long-term sustainability and help keep biodiversity knowledge free and openly accessible worldwide.

You can support BHL with a one-time or recurring online donation. Other options include giving by mail or electronic transfer, recommending a grant through a donor-advised fund, making an IRA charitable gift, or arranging a major, planned, or legacy gift.

If you have donated to BHL online, you can increase, reduce, pause, or cancel your recurring donation through the Donor Portal.

You can also view your donation history, download receipts, manage your personal details, update your payment method, change the date of your next donation, or reactivate a previously canceled plan.

To access the Donor Portal, follow the link in the “Thank you for your donation to BHL!” email you received when you established your recurring donation.

The Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR), BHL’s fiscal sponsor, is a tax-exempt organization under section 501(c)(3) of the United States Internal Revenue Code. Donations are tax deductible in the United States to the extent permitted by law.

Tax treatment outside the United States varies by country and individual circumstances. Donors outside the United States should consult a qualified tax adviser or their local tax authority.

BHL is a global consortium rather than an independently incorporated nonprofit organization.

The Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR) serves as BHL’s fiscal sponsor and provides the financial and administrative infrastructure needed to receive and manage donations on BHL’s behalf.

Donations made to the Biodiversity Heritage Library directly support BHL’s work.

Yes. BHL’s online donation form supports more than 135 currencies. It will automatically detect your location and display donation amounts in your local currency, although you can select a different available currency if needed.

Your donation receipt will show the amount in the currency you used. BHL receives and reports donations in US dollars.

Yes. Online donations are processed securely through Fundraise Up, BHL’s donation platform. Fundraise Up uses established payment processors and security measures to protect donor and payment information.

BHL does not receive or store your complete credit card or bank account details.

You can donate securely through BHL’s online donation form.

A receipt is emailed to you after each donation. You can also view your donation history and download receipts at any time through the Donor Portal.
