This is the community for the 7_conflicts Fanfic Writing Challenge. The challenge is fairly simple: write a story about war as it affects your chosen character/characters. Only fandoms where there is some form of armed conflict are allowed -- i.e. characters must be engaged in some sort of shooting war. While there are battles in, say, Pokemon, Pikachu isn't packing an M-16 and worrying about whether Charizard is going to come out of the trees and waste him before he can get back to the World. A fandom like The A-Team also doesn't quite count, unless you're writing exclusively about their time in Vietnam.
The point of this community is that oftentimes action-based fandoms end up top-heavy with fics that are about anything BUT the conflict in question. This is a small attempt to bring in some balance and to provide writers with an interest in action-based stories a forum to work on their craft.
Note: I originally got this idea for Transformers fanfics, but any conflict-based fandom is welcome.
The Rules:
1. Sign up by posting to this thread HERE. You do NOT have to wait until your claim is acknowledged to start posting fics.
2. Minimum length for stories is 100 words; there is no maximum length. You can repost fics written for other challenges if they fit the theme of the community as a whole and of your chosen prompt. Fics written originally for this community are, naturally, always welcome.
3. Deadline is open. Finish your stories as quickly or as slowly as you like.
4. Claims are first come, first served. If someone else has claimed a character you wanted, you can go on a waiting list. Or, you can come up with another variation featuring that character. For example, if someone is writing about Bumblebee, you can always write about Goldbug or Spike and Bumblebee. You could also pick the same character, but use a different group of prompts. Say, if someone's taken Bumblebee with Slang Acronyms, you could pick Bumblebee with Warfare Environments.
Limits: You can have up to two claims (i.e. two groups of prompts) at a time. "General Series" claims are allowed. It is also possible to pick the same group of prompts, but write about two different characters -- say you want to write about both Lady Jaye and Gears, using Warfare Environments for both characters. Once you finish your prompts, you can do another set of claims.
Fancharacters and original characters are allowed. You can also write original fics if you want.
5. Fics can be any rating from G through NC-17, but there is one rather major exception: no sex or romance are allowed. No slash, no het, no fluff, no hardcore sexxors, none of it. The fics in this community are meant to be about war, good god y'all. Fighting and action and all that sort of thing. You can have a character pining for the girl (or guy)back home but the main focus of the story shouldn't be having two characters hook up with each other.
It's not that I don't like sex or romance; take a look at my personal journal and you'll see that I've written more than my fair share of sex and romance. But I also like action and I'd like to see more action-based fics out there.
Note: You *can* write about characters who are married or dating each other, but the focus of the fic should not be on the romance. For example: Flint and Lady Jaye are a couple in most versions of the GI Joe and it's possible to choose them for this challenge, but a fic featuring them should be about the two of them doing their jobs, rather than each other. An "I love you, pass the ammo" is ok, but sex amidst the mortar rounds is right out.
6. Fics should be checked for grammar and spelling before they are posted. Beta-reading is nice, but not required.
7. Stories should be posted to the community, under an LJ-cut. Click "How to do an LJ-Cut" if you're not sure how to do one. Please be considerate of other peoples' friends lists and/or those on dial-up connections, particularly in the case of large works of art.
The following information should be above the cut:
