Sachertorte is a chocolate sponge cake covered with chocolate glaze and filled with apricot jam.

The apricot jam is either under the glaze or between two sponge layers.

The cake was invented by the Austrian confectioner Franz Sacher, either in 1832 for the Austrian chancellor Klemens von Metternich, or in the 1840s.

You can read more, and see photos in this Wikipedia article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sachertorte#Reception

One thing that I loved about visiting Germany a decade ago was the food! Such good food and desserts. I believe we had Sachertorte, can't remember now, I do know we had Princess Cake in Dresden. The only time we had American-chain food was I wandered across a Dunkin' Donuts and had to stop in as my dad was a big fan. It was pretty much identical to American Dunkin's save the signage. And Starbucks. My wife is very heat-sensitive and they were the only places that we could easily find that reliably had air-conditioning.
