Heavy Rain

For those of you playing Quantic Dream's Heavy Rain, I promise you that there will be NO SPOILERS in this thread without a warning.

That being said, I have just finished this wonderful game.

My question to the community is this: Which decision in the game made you work the hardest, morally, to choose?

Collapse )

My first playthrough, I put it on the hardest difficulty and made the executive decision NOT to replay any scenes to get a better ending. I let the story take its course.

For the first time through, I played it perfectly... Not a single main character died, and I got the best ending.

The other question presented is: When you go through your second playthrough, what decisions will you make differently from your previous play?

Hey!

Hey everyone, it's been a while since there have been any posts, so I figure I'll ramble a bit.

Which games have you been keeping busy with?

On my end, I've started playing some random rhythm game on the DS, "taiko no tatsujin" (yes, it's Japanese and I copy/pasted the title, haha). You "drum" with your stylus, and the layout reminds me of Donkey Konga, but with zanier graphics. I was really surprised when I played, because I've adored Doraemon since forever, and the old school Nintendo games and they have theme songs from them included (Mario, etc, I mean!).

My wii console hasn't been getting much attention since I finished playing Mario Kart (I hate that steering wheel/wii-mote for driving, but luckily using the nunchunk or gamecube controller works great). But... my young nephew has been glued to the wii, and also my GBA SP - he loves to play Super Mario World! (And refers to the Yoshis as "horses" lol.)  Yes, start 'em off young. I remember the first time I played SMW was on the SNES, when I was 7 or so. The funny thing is...my nephew likes to navigate to the ghost houses and makes ME play; when I was young I was scared of the ghost houses and boos. ;_;

What are some memories from your own childhood in terms of playing these games? : )

I've also been considering purchasing a PS3, if a good bundle ever pops up. I never thought I'd buy one, but I had the chance to play LittleBigPlanet on my friend's system and I really loved it. Right now, I'm keeping my eyes peeled for a good bundle - the price tag's been a good deterent so far since there's only that ONE game I'm dying for...

What's on YOUR gaming wishlist? What new things have you discovered while playing lately? :O Have there been genres or games you've avoided in the past, which turned out to be a new favourite?

WELLL...hope that gets some discussion going, lol. I hope life is treating everyone well. =)

midnight club: los angeles review

i sent back midnight club: los angeles today. i was only about 64% complete, if i remember the last time i checked the stats correctly.

it was pretty, and the world was pretty big, being built on the gta:4 engine. it was not as big as liberty city, but maybe it was a little more dense. it also kind of felt like it wasn't as big as burnout: paradise. and that's where i think the poor comparisons to b:p begin.

both games are built more or less to the same purpose: fun, arcady racing. but burnout succeeds on the fun part where mc fails. it's a hard thing to put a finger precisely on, but it just felt like mc was missing.. i dunno.. something.

it is easy to point out some of the things it was lacking, especially things that they should have lifted from burnout, which has been out a whole year longer. both games point you towards where you're going, but burnout flashes your turn signal to indicate your best legal route towards the destination. with mc, most of the checkpoint races had checkpoints close enough together to not get lost, but sometimes they were either a little farther apart, or one was just barely around a corner when you expected it to be straight. and on the stoplight mode, you were usually racing to a single destination point all the way on the other side of the map, with no indication of how to get there. without a clearly defined set of landmark endpoints, and with most of the checkpoint races not really going end to end like that, it was hard to piece together different routes to figure out how to win those.

which leads to the winning of the races. green races were a joke. most of them you could easilly win by at least 30 seconds. yellow races usually didn't feel like much of a challenge. orange races felt like i could almost win them, except that the computer always had at least 1 car in the race that was enough better than mine that i would have to depend on it doing something disasterous, which rarely happened. red races were usually right out, except in the case of the freeway races, where i could usually beat the red levels.

as far as other modes go, mc had only 2. one, 'payback', had you chasing down and damaging computer opponents to knock them out as quickly as possible, the other, 'delivery', was a thinly disguised time trial, where you had to do as little cosmetic damage as possible to the car you were delivering as possible while still beating the time. payback is not as fun as the road rage or marked man events from burnout. delivery is just a way to make time trials more aggravating.

and then there's the damage. it's about 90% cosmetic. bumpers fall off, your trunk stops staying closed, windows are all smashed out. it doesn't seem to affect your driving, until right at the end, when it starts to affect your steering a little. and then you're all of a sudden totalled. while i'm never a fan of overly punishing damage models, the jump to totalled sometimes felt a little arbitrary. it was an amusing touch in series races when you, and occassionally the opponents, would have various body parts replaced with primer grey parts.

the physics, while loose, were at least somewhat consistant and forgivable, at first. but, if you're going to use real cars, at least have the physics make sense with the cars. when i upgraded to the gt40, the very definition of wide base low center of mass, i started flipping every time i turned a corner.

summing up, this seems like another case of graphics winning out over gameplay. something the developers will need to start getting a handle on going into the 3rd year of this generation. while it is good to make the games pretty and take advantage of all our spiffy new hd equipment, the fun should be high def, too.
Resident Evil, RE

I better say hi or something..

I made a couple of comments on one post (I took breaks! Scary I wrote all of that up, though...)
Just call me Gamma.
I'm a college sophomore, 19 after July 27th.
I love me some survival-horror, and obscure games that could be written off as guilty pleasures.
Puzzle, action-adventure, old school Gen/Snes, RPGs are my thing.
But I hardly pick up FPS and sports. Not that I don't like FPS games, but I just don't play them often. (BUT I still have GoldenEye and Perfect Dark for my N64--which still work. That has to redeem me!).
And sports I won't bother with unless it has some crazy twist, or appetite for destruction. So yes to Twisted Metal, Vigilante 8 and Burnout, but no to Madden. ;\ I know we can't go out and race people like that, but I have little interest for sports games since I feel like...
"If I wanted to play it, I'd go gather up some buddies and play make-believe I was Dan Marino for the Florida Dolphins."
Strange, inn'it?

DS/GBA Game Recommendations

There seem to be quite a few posts about recommendations lately, so I figured I would get in on the action. However, my situation is a little different.

I'm current a member on the site Goozex, where you can basically trade your games for only $1 a trade. The way you earn points is trading games in. Games that are rare, highly requested, or haven't been out on the scene are worth more points.

So anyway, I managed to trade in most of my games, and have managed to rack up around 1650 points. I quickly plunk down half my points for Sword of Mana (GBA), Touch Detective and Touch Detective 2 1/2 (DS).

So now I've got 850 points left, and I'm really torn on what games I should get with the rest of my points. I really want:

-The World Ends With You
-Harvest Moon DS Cute
-Mother I + II
-Mother III

But there is no way in hell I will get those in this lifetime.

So can you girls (and guys) recommend some really good games for me. I really like strategy and fighting games, as well as RPGs.

Thanks so much for your help. :3

Oh, and if anyone wants to sign up for Goozex, I've got a referral link, in which you earn 1trade credit and 100 points right off the bat, and can earn an extra 3 trade credits for your first positive trade:

civ:revolution demo

has anyone tried the civ:revolution demo?

am i alone in just not feeling it like with the previous games? i was planning to buy it, but after the demo, i just don't know..

it's different, but i can't put my finger on what exactly is different that makes me not feel as good about it.
