I just want to let you know that Mrs. Jane Newman (Chair of the Board of Directors) asked me to assume the duty as the Interim President/Director of the school starting August 01st. My duty is to "sail the ship" as smoothly as possible until we get the replacement. Search Committee is scheduled to meet on August 07th, after the Board of Directors meeting. Since we have a significant budget cut and some difficult choices to make, it will be a very challenging task. I will give you more details during the faculty/staff meetings on Monday (10th) & Tuesday (11th). <remainder cut for irrelevancy>
In the continuing saga of the search for a new President, I received this email today:
"From: Jeff Goodman Sent: Monday, July 13, 2009 1:08 PM To: Faculty Subject: Meeting
There will be a first meeting of the search committee for the new ASMS Director, Weds, July 15, 10 am, in the Board Room. About 5-6 weeks ago I was asked to serve on the committee, and I of course agreed to do so.
If you have any suggestions, questions, input, advice, or anything of the kind, please email or phone, 441-2162. It will be kept strictly confidential, I promise. Best, JG "
So it seems things are moving along at the usual ASMS pace.
*turns on light, knocks down cobwebs, trips over some dead alum that got locked in here the last time this thing was updated.* ^^^^<--Did not realize someone else had posted in here today :P
The following letter is from ASMS Board Chair Jane Leatherbury Newman:
June 22, 2009
Dear ASMS Parents and Students,
I am very sad to inform you that I have received a letter of resignation from Dr. Jane Ellis. Dr. Ellis has been an outstanding leader, an inspiration to all of us, and has taken ASMS to exceptional levels of achievement during her seven years as president.
After spending 34 years in education, Dr. Ellis has expressed that she would like to spend more time with her family. She also plans to resume her long-time interest in painting. We certainly tried to talk her out of this, to no avail. She will truly be missed!
At the beginning of June, I appointed a Search Committee to begin the process of looking for a replacement for Dr. Ellis. If needed, the Board of Directors will appoint an Interim President at our next meeting in August. We do not want to rush this process, as it is imperative that we hire the "right" person to lead our wonderful school.
We know that we have the support of all of you and welcome your input as we move forward with plans for the Alabama School of Math and Science.
Dr. Ellis has retired. The board has appointed a search committee to find a new president, and will consider appointing an interim president at their next meeting.
This place is kinda dead, but I imagine a few of you that still use LJ might be interested in that bit of news.
