Border Management Branch

Our Mandate

Strengthening Border Security Across the Criminal Justice Chain, the Border Management Branch (BMB) delivers targeted technical assistance that helps Member States prevent and respond to organized crime at borders, while ensuring coherence in UNODCs approach to environmental and maritime crime. Through a comprehensive, chain-of-custody approach, BMB reinforces border control efforts from early detection to post-seizure investigations, applying a wide range of tools and expertise to disrupt illicit flows, dismantle criminal networks, and foster strong regional and international cooperation.

As part of its global mandate, BMB provides strategic oversight and coordination of four flagship UNODC initiatives: the Global Maritime Crime Programme (GMCP), Passenger and Cargo Control Programme (PCCP), Global Programme on Criminal Network Disruption (GPCD), and Global Programme on Crimes that Affect the Environment (GPCAE), ensuring a unified and impactful response across all border security dimensions.
