Named after Milan Holub (1938 - ), a key Czech geologist specialized in the Kutná Hora ore district.
Chemically similar to oscarkempffite, clino-oscarkempffite, izoklakeite, and staročeskéite. Co-described with also chemically (and stoichiometrically) similar lazerckerite.
Holubite is a new member of the andorite branch of the lillianite homologous series with N = 4.
