About Wood Tin
Formula:
SnO2
Name:
From the rounded ringed and radiating appearance, resembling wood.
A variety of cassiterite showing a fibrous and often banded structure resembling the texture of wood.
Related to cassiterite in a similar manner to the way agate is related to quartz.
Most commonly as a low-temperature hydrothermal deposit in acid volcanic rocks.
Alluvial "stream tin", without the agate-like concentric rings, is sometimes mislabelled as "wood tin".
Cf. Wood Copper.
