About Spiroffite Group
Formula:
M2Te4+3O8
A group of monoclinic Te(IV) oxides with the general formula given above, where M denotes a medium-sized divalent cation. The structure contains sheets of corner-sharing (M2O10) units, composed of two edge-sharing (MO6) octahedra, which are cross-linked into a framework by Te4+ cations. Similar motifs are found in the structures of denningite, where Te4+ cations are cross-linking chains of (MnO6) and (CaO8) polyhedra, and nissonite, which contains sheets of identical structure but different composition.
Numerous synthetic members of this group are known.
