Name:
Named in 1833 by Augustus A. Hayes for James Freeman Dana [September 23, 1793, Amherst, New Hampshire - April 14, 1827, New York, New York], chemist and mineralogist, instructor at Harvard University, later professor of chemistry at the College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York.
A Co-bearing variety of arsenopyrite.
Originally described from Franconia, Grafton Co., New Hampshire, USA.

NB: Not to be confused with Danalite, a species in the helvine group.
