Disabling vim visual mode in /etc/vim/vimrc does not work

Solution for all users, including root: install -D -m644 /dev/null /etc/vim/after/plugin/disable-mouse.vim echo 'set mouse=' > /etc/vim/after/plugin/disable-mouse.vim

Make `set -o vi` vim cursor reflect editing mode when in `read`

With read -e -p "prompt: ", the editing mode is reflected. Without -p it is not (also not with -p '').
