I need to reduce the color depth from the default 10-bit to 8-bit in GNOME Wayland on the latest Debian.

My inexpensive KVM flickers when using 10-bit color and prevents me from setting my dual monitors to their full resolution and refresh rates.

I’m using an AMD 5700 XT.

Is there a way to force 8-bit color without buying new hardware?

  • Just curious, how did you come to the conclusion color depth has something to do with the KVM issue? Commented 2 days ago

Same thing happened on Windows before I reduced the color depth. HDMI 1.4 and DP 1.2 Commented 2 days ago
