I have an Ubuntu 22.04.5 LTS and I'm trying to save a pdf file on okular. Problem is that it shows the error "Could not open the temporary file for saving" whenever I try to save it.

This happened after I did

sudo systemctl restart NetworkManager

I'm new to linux and hence don't know much about the terminal stuff so I just google my problems and copy paste the code in terminal.

This was a problem I couldn't find a solution to online hence I come here.

EDIT : I also tried to open another file in the default pdf viewer and tried to save. This time it said:

Failed to create a directory'/tmp/evince-70133':Read-only file system

  • The command you show is not relevant, that just restarts a networking service. My first guess is that you are trying to save a file in a directory you don't have write access to. Please edit your question and tell us where the file is located, where you are trying to save it and, ideally, the permissions of the relevant directories. Or just try saving to a different location. • @terdon I'm not doing anything different from what I usually do to save a file, Ctrl + S. I have not changed the file location or anything. That command, irrelevant as it may be, was the point after which saving stopped working. As I said that I'm new to linux and don't know much about directories and all. Commented Sep 12 at 17:31
  • OK, but did you try saving to a different location? There should be a "File -> Save as" option that brings up a dialog box where you can choose where to save it. Save it in your home directory. And please add the location of the file to your question. What directory is the file in? If you are using a graphical interface, presumably you clicked on something to open the file, where was it? • @terdon i opened okular then pressed open, then selected the documents folder then the pdf. And pdf from other folders are showing the same problem. And I did try doing "save as" and change the location to anywhere else but it still is showing the same error. I also tried to open another file in the default pdf viewer and tried to save this time it said "Failed to create a directory'/tmp/evince-70133':read only file system" I'll put this in the question too Commented Sep 13 at 2:31
  • And is this only in okular? Can you save other files in your Documents folder? Do you have space issues? Please open a terminal, run df -h and add the output to your question. Use the {} button to mark it as code. Commented Sep 13 at 11:13
