"Trees and the bramble" is one of Aesop's Fables.
Somewhere, deep in the forest, a pomegranate and an apple tree argued about which of them was more beautiful. As their strife became louder, a bramble spoke up "My dear friends, in my presence at least cease from such vain disputings." The moral is when enlightened people have a dispute, the disreputable also tries to pretend to be important.
