Mischief (MHA)

Go To

"So…" The villain scratches his nose. "What exactly are you supposed to be?"
Izuku Midori-no. There's no one watching. No one here to see. He smirks.
"I am Izuku Lokison. Prince of Mischief." He spreads his arms out in front of him, a dagger appearing in each hand with a soft green glow. "And I am burdened with glorious purpose."
Mischief is a crossover fanfiction between My Hero Academia and Marvel Universe by Kage Nekem. It can be read on Archive of Our Own here. In September 25, 2024, it became the first part of the Mischievous Misadventures series, which can be read here. The second part, Mischief: Variants, is a side fic that consists of Omakes, story what if’s, deleted scenes that couldn’t fit into the main story and other ideas centered around these universe's characters. It can be read here.

The story follows Izuku Lokison, Prince of Mischief, as he seeks to fulfill his glorious purpose of becoming a hero.

    #-B
  • 11th-Hour Superpower:
    • Izuku manages to unlock the cryokinesis from his father's side of the family during his fight against Shoto at the Sports Festival.
    • Ochako receives the power of the Ten Rings during her fight against Gorr.
    • Izuku unlocks his ability to fire energy blasts just as he and Bakugo are about to be crushed by an out-of-control ship during the Training Camp.
    • Tenko fully activates One for All for the first time near the end of the Kamino arc, just as All for One is about to kill Hirona.
    • Aoyama discovers the ability to shoot light blasts (which is actually the Nova Force) from anywhere of his body near the climax of the Battle of Kamino.
    • Upon pushing his Quirk to the limit, Kurogiri becomes capable of opening portals to outer space, thanks to power of the Space Stone.
  • Abled in the Adaptation:
    • Thanks to his deal with Mephisto, Tensei is capable to walk again upon becoming the Ghost Rider.
    • All for One is brought into full health with the help of the Celestial technology from Apocalypse's ship.
  • Aborted Declaration of Love: Thirteen (who is the embodiment of Izuku's love for Ochako) attempts to confess his feelings for her during the Sports Festival. The other clones find out and stop before he can do so.
  • Above the Gods: During his brief appearance in Chapter 62, Doctor Doom mentions he tried to be a God once, but it was beneath him.
  • Abusive Parents:
    • Loki is an extremely complicated take on this, as he undoubtedly loves his son, but it's not afraid putting him on mortal danger (to a controllable extent) and emotionally manipulate Izuku in order to have his plans in motion. Examples: He sends the Dark Elf to the USJ, knowing full well that despite struggling, Izuku and Denki would find a way to defeat it, but when Gorr, someone not even he knew was alive, therefore a variant he can't control, attacked Hosu while Izuku and his friends were there, Loki immeadiatly ditched what he was doing and tried to go save his son, only to be intereferred by Blackheart. By the time the Shie Hassaikai arc happens, it becomes Played Straight as Loki's emotional manipulation starts to become more insidious, as Loki starts to convince Izuku that the best way to keep his loved ones (the main obstacles to Loki's manipulations) safe is to stay far away from them, and rely solely on his father for support, which is a textbook abuse tactic.
    • All for One's treatment towards Hirona is an emotional example of it. He always makes clear that she will never be as good as Tenko/Tomura would have and belittles her at any slight mistake. Evolves into physical as he is not afraid to torture her in front of Tenko just to get what he wants
    • Tenko's mother Nao is the only other person in his family other than Hana that he regrets killing. He still resents his grandparents for just standing there and letting his father abuse him, and as for the man himself, the boy doesn't even spare a thought about it.
    • Mustard's parents locked him in the basement of their house out of fear of his Quirk. Spinner's parents were the same, ashamed of his heteromorph looks, and Himiko's parents kicked her out of the house. In fact, most of the younger members of the League bond over this.
    • Himiko's parents sold her out to some research facility where she forced to endure inhuman experiments to test out her pseudo-vampire powers when she was six years old.
    • While his adoptive father loved him, Daken's stepmother was neglectful, privately admitting she would never love a child that wasn't hers, not to mention how she turned a blind eye to abuse Daken suffered from pretty much all children and adults from his hometown, and how she tried to kill him after the mutant killed his own newborn brother.
  • Accidental Discovery:
    • Maybe not so accidental, given that it was one of Nezu's goals, but during the Guardians Training Camp arc, Cosmo ends up reading Aoyama's mind and discovers he is the U.A. Traitor.
    • Hawks found out about the Skrulls infiltration while leaving some of his feathers around the HPSC office, which allows him to figure out the identity of several moles, such as the new Best Jeanist and Bubble Girl.
  • Accidental Misnaming: Upon learning the story behind the Infinity Stones and the Multiverse, Denki confuses Thanos' name with "Thermos", "Thermometer", and "Thanatos".
  • Actor Allusion: Kamala's hypothetical voice actress is Michaela Dietz, well known for playing shapeshifting basilisk Vee in The Owl House. As of Chapter 103, Kamala has learned how to shapeshift much like Vee.
  • Actually Pretty Funny:
    • When Izuku attempts to use his class president "authority" to ask Momo to tell Katsuki that he and Izuku will be facing All Might in the finals, Momo promptly resigns from her vice-president position. Izuku and Kyoka burst into laughter after this.
    • While everyone is stressed out during the I-Island attack, Shoto quips that after USJ and Hosu, villain attacks have become quite mundane, which is why he is not at all nervous about the situation. That actually helps to lighten up the mood and the students thank Shoto for it.
    • Hirona can't help but snort and giggle when Nejire asks her if All for One doesn't sit in a dark lair all day hatching evil plots and laughing to himself like any Generic Doomsday Villain.
    • After Hawks jokes about how since Nighteye works with information gathering, he likely knows how to smash past a computer security, Nighteye gives a small, barely noticeble snort at the pun.
    • Invoked during the fight against Decoy Nine. Kirishima realizes that Izuku's love for puns is the key to defeat the clone that embodies his depression, so he tosses a box to Nine offering a brownie to him as an olive branch. Nine doesn't believe at first but opens it anyway... only to find a letter 'E' made up of brown construction paper. A literal Brown-E. That is enough for him to drop his guard and burst into laughter, saving everyone else.
  • Action Dad: Several examples throughout the story: Loki (a villain one) to Izuku, Thor to Denki, Vision to Billy and Thomas, Logan (a surrogate example) to Laura. Aizawa is not Eri's official parent yet, but both him and Eri are more than happy to let him take this role.
  • Actually a Doombot: While the Trope Namer has yet to pull of the maneuver, Izuku ends up pulling this when the Mischief Squad tries to bring him back to UA during the Shie Hassakai arc, using a mix of his ice powers and astral projection to trick people into fighting an ice clone, while the real self, being around disguised as Shinso, manipulates circumstances in order to analyze whatever weaknesses they found in his abilities and prepare to take them all off in a single swoop.
  • Adaptational Dye-Job:
    • Denki's eyes are blue instead of golden. This also acts as foreshadowing about being related to Thor.
    • Tenya's hero costume changes from white to black with red stripes upon receiving the power of the Ebony Blade.
    • After becoming Venom's host, Setsuna's hero suit goes from purple to black.
    • Inverted with Fumikage. Instead of Moon Knight's well-known white costume, he retains his canonical black outfit after becoming Konshu's host.
  • Adaptation Name Change: Several Hero Names change.
    • Aoyama goes by the hero name of "Radiant" instead of "Can't Stop Twinkling".
    • Mina gets to go by "Alien Queen" instead of having to pick "Pinky".
    • Momo goes by "Genesis" instead of "Creati".
    • Denki goes by "Raikou" instead of "Chargebolt".
    • Izuku goes by "Mischief" instead of "Deku".
  • Adaptation Origin Connection:
    • Odin implies that an Infinity Stone may be responsible for the existence of Quirks.
    • It's mentioned offhand by Wolverine that people with Quirks, as they're known today, were originally simply called mutants.
    • During their conversation with Nezu, Thor and Loki reveal that the Dawn of Quirks, Beyonder attempted to use the power of the Infinity Stones to create the Battleworld, only to be stopped by the Avengers as well the Titans.
    • All of it is promptly clarified in Chapter 61. During the Secret Wars event, in order to prevent the destruction of their reality, the Avengers used the Infinity Stones to fuse their universe with the one it was in collision course with, in this case, the My Hero Academia universe, thus creating the Mischief universe.
    • Much like Rocket, Nezu is also one of the High Evolutionary's creations that rebelled against him.
  • Adaptation Amalgamation: The Marvel characters in the story such as Loki, Thor and Wolverine are based on their live-action portrayals, with MCU elements such as the events of Thor: The Dark World and The Avengers (2012) as well events from the comics present as well.
  • Adaptation Deviation: The Final Exams end having major changes in both the teachers and the student pairings: Koda and Sero go against Snipe, Fumikage and Aoyama against Cementoss, Kirishima and Ojiro against Thirteen, Shoji and Toru against Wolverine, Bakugo and Ochako against Aizawa, Mina and Shoto against Colossus, Tenya and Kyoka against Gran Torino, Sato and Tsu against Nezu, Denki and Tenko against All Might and finally, Izuku and Momo against Ghost Rider.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul:
    • Since Mineta is not a hero student here, Denki is Izuku's friend and a member of his group instead of Bakugo's.
    • All of Tenko's relationships here, since he is a hero student. He is Izuku's friend, All Might's successor, and Tsuyu's love interest.
  • Adaptation Species Change:
    • Izuku is half Frost Giant hybrid.
    • Himiko is a pseudo-vampire.
  • Adaptational Comic Relief: Shoto's Conspiracy Theorist antics make him even more The Comically Serious than he is in canon.
  • Adaptational Early Appearance:
    • Izuku meets Aizawa before the Sludge Villain incident.
    • Izuku ends up running into and rescuing, Eri during the Sludge Villain Incident.
    • Lady Nagant is saved by Hirona after the Sports Festival.
    • Muscular debuts during the I-Island arc.
  • Adaptational Heroism:
    • Tenko Shimura was saved by All Might and Gran Torino shortly after the incident that killed his family and is a hero student.
    • After being brainwashed into being Izuku's servant, the Nomu from the USJ becomes Eri's caretaker.
    • Danjuro Tobita is a Pro Hero called Gentle Hero and Manami Aiba is his sidekick.
    • Mr. Compress and Himiko are double agents working for Izuku from inside the League.
  • Adaptational Jerkass:
    • Vlad King is so convinced that Izuku is a traitor that he orders his students to gang up on Izuku and force a confession out of him in the middle of the team battles at the Sports Festival. Luckily, Izuku's teammates save him. Ultimately subverted when it turns out is actually a Skrull pretending to be Vlad King.
    • Despite all his noble claims, Wolfram reveals himself as a Super Supremacist who wishes to get rid of the remaining Quirkless people left in the world.
  • Adaptational Location Change: Due to Hirona's attack at the Pussycats base compromised the Beast Forest, Nezu arranges for the first-years' Training Camp to happen at Knowhere.
  • Adaptational Modesty: After the Internships, Momo and Toru gain new hero suits made of Unstable Molecules that can adapt to go along with their Quirks and properly cover their bodies.
  • Adaptational Nationality:
    • In addition to being a Half-Human Hybrid, Izuku is both half-Japanese, half-Asgardian. Denki is the same, and so is Momo.
    • Instead of being just Japanese, Ken Takagi (formerly known as Rock Lock) is half-Japanese half-Wakandan.
  • Adaptational Superpower Change:
    • Instead of receiving One For All, Izuku has Loki's Master of Illusion powers instead.
    • Tenko unlocks Blackwhip instead of Super Strength after gaining One for All.
    • Instead of being poisonous, Mustard's gas can cause hallucinations.
  • Adaptational Sympathy:
    • In the Two Heroes movie, Wolfram was simply a mercenary seeking money by stealing the Power Amplifier, a very Flat Character. Here he is the leader of the Brotherhood of Mutants, grew up being persecuted for being different, and seeks to carry on Magneto's legacy. Ultimately subverted when he reveals himself to be a Super Supremacist even worse than Magneto who wishes to destroy the Quirkless because "their existence oppresses people like him".
    • Mustard's motivations for villainy are somehow vague in canon, with the closest thing to an explanation being he is resentful towards hero students for receiving proper training and control from schools. Here, he was locked in his house's basement from a young age since his parents were afraid of his Quirk.
  • Adaptational Villainy:
    • All for One finds Hana Shimura in the aftermath of her family's destruction, resulting in her being groomed into villainy as Hirona Shigaraki.
    • Detective Eizo Tanuma and Reporter Daikaku Miyagi end up joining Overhaul's payroll after the Shie Hassaikai receives a bust on their finances.
    • Giulio Gandini is the leader of the Silver Clan, while Rody Soul is a ninja of the Hand. That said, Rody is an Anti-Villain, only serving the Hand to provide for his family and to learn how to protect them and himself, while Giuio is at best, Ambiguously Evil, since he is clearly looking for Anna, who is already captive of the Gollini Family.
  • A Death in the Limelight: Chapter 90 is mostly centered around Taneo Tokuda interviewing the U.A. students, while also gathering evidence about the existance of aliens, something he has been trying to prove for a while. Everything seems to be going well, he talks with the students, befriends Kamala, gains the proof he needed and leaves on high spirits, knowing the future is safe at the hands of the next generation of heroes, much like canonical interview with Izuku... only for him to be shot to death by Shie Hassaikai goons on his way home.
  • Age Lift: Tenko is 15 years old here, instead of 20.
  • Affectionate Gesture to the Head: Once he finds out Izuku cut off Overhaul's hand during their fight, Aizawa gives his student a head pat and a "good job, son", which is more effective to shut Izuku up than anything he has ever done... right before Aizawa grounds him for freezing the internal bleeding from his wounds and leaving, which Izuku promptly takes as his teacher's way of saying he is his child as much Eri.
  • Agent Provocateur: Curious attempts to cause intrigue during the HPSC press conference after Kamino by ranting about that if people were allowed to use their Quirks freely, not so many people would have died at the hands of the Sentinels, but the HPSC President refuses to fall for her taunts.
  • Ain't Too Proud to Beg: Despite his attempt to remain a Defiant Captive, Tenko immeadiatly breaks down once All for One starts to torture Hirona to get him to comply with his wishes. Hirona later finds herself in the exact same position, but unfortunately the pain from the torture is too much for her to voice it out loud.
  • Alas, Poor Villain:
    • Zig-Zagged. While most of the gods from Omnipotence City most likely had their punishment coming (they were going to execute Stain for simply entering the city) you can't but feel sorry as they are all brutally slaughtered by Gorr. Special mention to Zeus who dies while holding Hercules' dead body in his arms.
    • Played Straight with Sam. The poor guy can only cry and beg for help as Ultron melts his skull off with his Eye Beams, and his best friend can't do anything but watch. That's a particularly cruel and sad way to die for someone who was Only in It for the Money.
  • Alien Non-Interference Clause: Odin's Law, which prevents Asgard from interfering with any conflicts of the Nine Realms. Breaking it is considered treason, no matter for what intention. As Heimdall unfortunately finds out after I-Island.
  • All Animals Are Dogs: The Nomu behaves a lot like a monstrous super-powered dog after becoming Izuku's pet.
  • All for Nothing:
    • The I-Island arc ends like this. Despite the heroes best efforts, Ultron survives their attempts to destroy them, nearly sinks I-Island and manages to escape to fight another day thanks to Loki's help.
    • Hawks and Nighteye's attempt to infiltrate the HPSC archives ends up in failure as even despite the numerous setbacks and interference from the Hand, they end up losing the data they adquired thanks to Taskmaster's arrival.
  • Alliance of Alternates: Ultron uses one of these as his personal henchmen during I-Island after the hero students easily dispose of the Iron Legion drones. They include: Ultron-11, the one who was resurrected by Beyonder for the Secret Wars event; Ultron-9997, who has the powers of the Absorbing Man; Ultron-199999, his MCU counterpart; Ultron-1610, who has the same powers as Yellowjacket; and Ultron-61112, his Age of Ultron comics version and Ultrog, the gorilla version of him from Spider-Ham's universe.
  • All Your Base Are Belong to Us: Played With. As Hirona points out, the League's invasion at Knowhere is not to take the station, kill the heroes, or even win, but to take and punish who they think deserves. As such, they destroy the Spirit Tree, cause a prison riot, and use the Nomus and their members to wipe out any resistance on their way.
  • Always a Bigger Fish: Loki may be a master manipulator and schemer who holds the power of the Soul Stone, but none of that hold a candle to Mephisto, as the King of Hell is one of the few beings that can terrify Loki no matter how much he tries to hide it.
  • Always Someone Better: One of the sour points for Hirona is that they are always compared unfavorably to their brother by All for One.
  • Amazingly Embarrassing Parents:
    • Loki and Inko are this to Izuku, best shown during the Sports Festival. Thor and his wife are the same to Denki.
    • Nagant is a Parental Substitute example of it, but still. When Hirona asks for her help to fend off Nejire (who is restraining her at the moment), the sniper doesn't miss the opportunity to tease her surrogate daughter about her crush on the hero student. Made even worse because of the very compromising position the two girls find themselves at (Nejire is restraining Hirona by sitting on her back) and the fact that Nejire can hear the teasing through Hirona's earpiece.
  • ...And That Little Girl Was Me: Thor attempts to invoke this during his talk with Denki by recalling the story of a "certain spoiled brat prince who was immature, brash, quick to anger, and thought himself above others that learned that before becoming a great king, he needed to be a good man" but accidentally falls halfway through it by referring to himself during said talk. Nevertheless, Denki understands what his father means, and thanks him for the advice.
  • And Then What?: Ultron found himself running into this problem while preparing for his return. The A.I. spent a lot of time wondering what would happen once he achieved his goal of causing the extinction of all life, and came to the conclusion he would be completely alone in a dead world with nothing else to achieve, which is what prompted him to create the Ultron Virus, so his conciousness could live on his hybrids, mainly his new "family", Vision, All Might, David and Izuku.
  • Anger Born of Worry: Upon reuniting with Hirona in Chapter 85 (13 chapters since they saw each other at Training Camp Arc), Nejire reads the riot act to Hirona calling her out on her actions before giving Hirona a Cooldown Hug, relieved that the villain is okay after the mess that was Kamino. Nejire is still mad afterwards, but realizing how Hirona is already feeling enough guilt over what happened causes her to mellow out.
  • Anguished Outburst: Both Izuku and Loki go through one hearing Inko was attacked at home by Overhaul's men, with each of trashing the room they are at in anger and despair.
  • Animal Jingoism: Played for Laughs since none of are actual dogs nor cats, but in Chapter 103, a off-screen discussion about which one is the superior pet escalates into a paintball war between the Feline Forces and the Canine Coalition.
  • Anti-Villain:
    • Loki seems to be a Well-Intentioned Extremist variety, given his regret over how much his family will be hurt by his actions, but believing it to be a necessary sacrifice for the greater good.
    • Hirona is a combination of the Noble Demon and the Woobie variety. She wants revenge against Tenko for killing her, the society that left her and saved him but not her, but is very clear deep down she doesn't fully hate him. It is also clear she hates to work for All for One who brought her back to life and is using her as his weapon.
    • David, per canon. His attempts to help the world and keep the peace All Might built are rooted in genuine good intentions. Unfortunately, this leads to the resurrection of a monstrous A.I. that seeks the end of humanity. This is eventually subverted, when it's revealed that the real David has been replaced by a Skrull.
    • Rody Soul. He is a member of the Hand, but only so he can provide for his family, as well as learn skill to protect them, since he has no faith on the heroes for the job.
    • Decoy Six is a complex take on this. All he cares about is making Izuku safe and happy, which given Izuku's extremely low self-steem is a rather noble goal, if it wasn't for the fact that Six is willing to hurt, or worse, force Izuku to hurt his own loved ones, believing himself as the only one who knows what's best for his brother/maker.
  • Appearance Angst: Izuku suffers from this regarding his Frost Giant form. While he displayed it to Ochako during their first date in Asgard, he is still not ready to fully embrace it (not helped by Loki passing his fears of being shunned away for being different to him), so when Momo accidentally sees him like this in Chapter 66, Izuku has a complete freak out and avoids her at all costs until they finally settle things in Chapter 73.
  • Apology Tour: Izuku starts one in the aftermath of the fight against Six, with him apologizing to his classmates for his Kick the Morality Pet moments during his rampage against Overhaul. As expected, they don't forgive him immeadiatly, but they understand Izuku was in a terrible state of mind when it happened, and are willing to remain friends and see him try to gain their trust back.
  • Arch Nemesis Dad:
    • Loki is being set up to be this to Izuku.
    • Ultron is this towards Vision, his creation.
  • Arc Villain:
    • The Beginnings arc has the Sludge Villain and the Yakuza thugs as Starter Villains of the story.
    • The USJ has Hirona Shigaraki as the leader of the invasion, but the Kurse Dark Elf acts as the main threat to Izuku.
    • The Internships arc has Stain, the Hero Killer, and Gorr, the God Butcher
    • The Final Exams have the teachers acting as opponents against the students until they are defeated halfway through the arc and are replaced by Hawks.
    • At first, it seems that the Brotherhood of Mutants led by Wolfram will be the main antagonists of the I-Island arc, only for Ultron to reveal himself and hijack the arc as the main villain of it before it even begins.
    • The Guardians Training Camp arc has the Vanguard Action Squad attacking Knowhere, with Kraven, Taskmaster, and Daken standing out as the most dangerous enemies, in addition to the Nomus that weren't used in Hosu.
    • While All for One is technically the main threat of the Hideout Raid, he quickly shares this role with Master Mold and his Sentinels.
    • While several villain groups are causing mayhem during and after the License Exam, Overhaul and the Hand are the ones that Izuku and his classmates face off by the end of the arc.
    • Overhaul and the High Evolutionary becomes the main antagonists of the Shie Hassaikai as the two of them team up during in their attempt to expand their operation. Halfway through the arc, however, Decoy Six also becomes one, with his toxic influence becoming just as harmful and dangerous to Izuku and his friends as Overhaul's takeover of the criminal underworld.
  • Armor-Piercing Response:
    • Tenko gives one to Hirona while calling the villain out on how her revenge quest against him and All for One is causing more harm than good to those around her.
Hirona: I don't want this! I want to be free! That's it. That's all I want. I just want to be free of him. Is that... (her voice lowers to a whisper) Is that too much to ask?
Tenko: If you keep going down this path... you'll never be free of him.
    • Logan delivers one to Daken when the villain questions him on how do you love someone when you hate yourself:
Logan: Take it from someone with some goddamn experience. You love them by realizing you don’t want them to ever feel like you do.
    • Tenko delivers one to Hirona when the villain asks him why she can't bring herself to hate him.
Tenko: Because, like at the space station, you’re trying to be something you’re not.
    • When Izuku tells Mustard that he needs to find friends and people who are not afraid of his Quirk, Mustard goes on a rant (not entirely wrong) on how he is supposed to find either of this things at prison, only for Izuku to cut him by offering himself to be his first. Mustard is left speechless, but eventually accepts.
    • When Hela questions Loki about what he could offer her in exchange for her help to find Fenrir, he delivers one to her: a chance to be useful. After betraying Odin and being exiled, Hela lost the only purpose of her life, to fight and conquer, she lost all purpose on her life, unsure of who she is if not the Goddess of Death.
    • Thor gives two of these two Hela in Chapter 92. First by saying that he is braver than she and Loki are for not going on a Roaring Rampage of Revenge after Inko is kidnapped. Later, when Hela asks him what is stopping her from just dumping Thor behind at Asgard after they rescue Heimdall from prison, he simply says he will trust on her to not doing so.
    • Compress gives one to Blade when the Daywalker questions his ability to protect Himiko about falling prey to her vampiric instincts.
Blade: And what if I said I don't believe you?
Compress: Politely sir, I don't give a damn.
    • Tsu gives another one to Decoy Eleven when the self-sacrificial clone nothing gives people more strength than fighting for someone they’ve lost, with her saying that in the same vein, nothing can can drain someone’s hope like losing someone they care about.
    • Ochako gives one to Six when he questions her on why Izuku should trust them on being on his side no matter what.
    Ochako: Because we trust him!!
    • In Chapter 100, when Six swiftly defeats Mischief Squad after their first attempt, he sarcastically asks if Izuku still believes his friends can save him. Izuku, for his turn, says "yes" with zero hesitation or doubt, prompting his friends and teacher fight even harder.
  • Artifact of Doom:
    • Izuku's scepter, which contains the Reality Stone, is the most powerful weapon in his arsenal. It's also highly dangerous and without proper training and control, it can turn its user into a Drunk with Power megalomaniac.
    • The Ebony Blade is the same thing. If the wielder is weak-minded, the sword will take control over them and turn the person into a mindless killing machine.
  • Ascended Extra:
    • Denki is far more prominent in the story than his canon counterpart, being one of Izuku's friends and his cousin.
    • Hana Shimura is brought back to life, and is one of the story's main antagonists.
    • The USJ Nomu, thanks to being brainwashed into being Izuku's servant, not only remains in the story after the USJ arc but also becomes Eri's caretaker and bodyguard.
    • Tensei Iida becomes a member of the U.A. staff after the events of Hosu.
    • Melissa Shield and Setsuna Tokage become recurring cast members after the I-Island arc.
    • Rocket and Deadpool join the U.A. staff in the aftermath of Kamino.
    • Stain becomes a recurring cast member upon escaping custody during the battle of Kamino and joins the League afterwards.
    • Zigzagged with the CRC. The Clan itself doesn't a meaningful role in the story, but ever since the Internships arc, they are becoming a regular threat causing trouble to both heroes and villains alike, which is more than can be said from their canon selves who were killed right after they were introduced during the Meta Liberation Army arc and never heard from again.
  • Ascended Fanboy:
    • Ochako is a huge lover of anything related to space, so Izuku makes her dream come true by taking her to Asgard during their first date.
    • Both Ochako and Mina get to live this dream when the hero students are taken to Knowhere for the Guardians Training Camp.
    • Deconstructed with Fumikage. Despite being a Chuunibyou and 1-A's resident lover of macabre, his possession at the hands of Khonshu happened during Near-Death Experience, where neither he nor Dark Shadow had the power to decline the deity's help, not to mention that said "partnership" is way more beneficial for Khonshu than him, and if Fumikage decides to end said "partnership", the hero student will be left in the near-death state where he was found.
    • Setsuna, the resident reptilian enthusiast gets to live her dream to meet living dinosaurs when Denki arranges for their first date to happen at Savage Land.
    • All Might, who is as much as a hero fanboy as Izuku and Kamala, is barely capable of restraining himself upon meeting Bucky for the first time.
  • Asshole Victim:
    • Zig-Zagged with the gods of Omnipotence City, who were more than willing to execute a human (Stain) for simply getting lost in their city.
    • Played Straight with Wolfram and Muscular. While gruesome, no one will feel sorry for a bigot being lobotomized and brainwashed, or a psychotic killer being left paraplegic.
    • As Deadpool himself points out right before chopping the villain's head off, no one is gonna miss Moonfish.
    • The CRC are this whenever they show up, existing solely to get either beaten up by the heroes or gruesomely killed by other villains. This concept becomes Deconstructed during the Shie Hassaikai arc. While the clanners wholeheartdly deserve to die for their actions, no one counts the effect said death will have on their killer, in this case Izuku, who after mortally wounding one by accident, can't bring himself to finish him off, saying that if he is ever pushed to a spot where he has to take a life, whether is from a clanner or Overhaul, he will accept it, but until then, he will not simply sit down and let someone die in front of him if he can do something about it.
    • Miki Kora, her SO Jacob and all the other 30 or so corrupt cops that break into Hela's house to arrest her on Overhaul's orders. While not all the cops working for the Shie Hassaikai are doing out of greed, these guys were, so it's cathartic to see all the greedy slimeballs being completely destroyed by Hela.
    • Ending was a psychotic convict that wanted to die at Endeavor's hands, so whoever kills him while he was being taken to Deika City did the world a favor. The same person (?) is also responsible slaughtering the entire Hand faction in Tochigi.
  • Assimilation Plot: Ultron's Evil Plan. Using a virus named after him, the android intends to cyberform anyone that comes in contact with it, turning its victims into extensions of his conscience.
  • Astral Projection: Amongst the powers Izuku inherited from Loki, the ability to project his consciousness of his body is one of them.
  • The Atoner:
    • Aoyama becomes this after his status as The Mole is revealed. First he joins Tenko's rescue mission, fully expecting to die during it, but after the events of the Night of the Sentinels, he gets reinstated into the Hero course (immeadiatly after being expelled), as Aizawa believes the best way for him to make amends for his actions is by working harder than everyone else and alongside the people he betrayed. Aoyama is deeply moved by this.
    • Stain becomes one after joining the League. He reveals that upon realizing he became no better than a selfish and revenge-hungry monster like Gorr, he seeks to redeem himself until his mission is concluded or someone worthy can end his life.
    • Izuku becomes one as a consequence of his Roaring Rampage of Revenge halfway through the Shie Hassaikai arc, trying to make amends for hurting his friends and family for their attempts to prevent him from going after Overhaul. None of them forgives him for his actions outright, but they are willing to give him a chance to earn it properly.
  • Atrocious Alias:
    • Besides "King Explosion Murder" and "Lord Explosion Murder", Bakugo came up with "Darth Explosion Murder" for his hero name choices. And of course, it got rejected.
    • Rocket's original suggestion for the Guardians team name was "Ass-Kickers of the Fantastic".
    • As Izuku points out during their fight, Mustard's villain name is more likely to bring the condiment to mind rather than the toxic gas, which pretty much ruins any of his attempts to come off as fearsome and badass.
  • Audience Surrogate:
    • Many readers consider Shoto this, given his Conspiracy Theorist goes in line with how fans often debate over all the mysteries surrounding the story. He later displays the readers' desire to shoot Six in the face for all the trouble he is putting Izuku and their friends through.
    • Himiko yelling and kicking Izuku in the chins for ditching Ochako to go on his rampage against Overhaul is essentially what all readers felt ever since Chapter 91.
  • Autobots, Rock Out!: As expected from the co-leader of the Guardians, Quill never misses the opportunity to play his Awesome Mixtape during a fight.
  • Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: Invoked by Thor in order to help Aizawa deal with Izuku. According to him, there are three methods to help distract the young trickster: First, distract him with something to occupy his mind, whether is a task or appealing to his inner hero fanboy; Second, direct him to someone else and pray for forgiveness later; the final one is to tease him about Ochako, but this one is not completely foolproof.
  • Back from the Dead:
    • Loki was the one to bring Hana Shimura back from the dead using the power of the Soul and Reality Stones.
    • Somehow, Ultron was brought back into existence, although it's not clear if David Shield is the one responsible for it. Ultimately subverted since according to him, Ultron never died to begin with.
  • Back-to-Back Badasses: All Might and Thor team up to take on All for One during their fight in Kamino, moving in perfect synch to take on the villain.
  • Badass Boast:
    • Izuku delivers the opening quote of the page before taking on the villains of the USJ.
    • Izuku has two in Chapter 37. First during the fight against the CRC:
La Brava: Hey! The viewers want to know, since you can turn into girls, do you identify as genderfluid?
Izuku: I don't identify as genderfluid, I am genderfluid. I identify as a bitch.
    • His next one, by the end of the chapter as chaos descends on Hosu, it's just as good.
Gentle: La Brava! Stop the camera for nothing! Mischief. There seems to be nothing like the brutes who lay waste to Hosu, are you ready?
Izuku: There's nothing like them, huh? Well, they're gonna find out there's nothing like me either!
    • Another one before fighting Stain:
Izuku: The name's Mischief. And I'm burdened with glorious purpose...to be a hero!
    • The Ghost Rider gives one before joining the fight against Stain and Gorr.
Tensei/Ghost Rider: "I know what you came here for Tenya, but I'm not going to let it happen. Tonight, vengeance is mine!
    • Fumikage delivers one upon finishing off the Brotherhood mercenaries in I-Island, revealing his newfound power:
Fumikage: I am the final word against evildoers. I am the eradicator of the worst, of those who deserve it. I am a ghost, a specter of the moon. Brought back from the brink of death, I am the eyes, hands, fists, and vengeance of the moon god, Khonshu. I am his avatar. I am the Moon Knight.
    • Tenko also delivers one during the climax of I-Island as he defeats Ultron
Ultron: So, you have decided to give in to your basest human instincts? To kill!?
Tenko: No... I can't kill you... because you're not alive. You said you can't be killed and always respawn...that you have to follow your programming no matter what...you said you don't know why, but you do it anyway instead of choosing to do something else. But you know who does have a choice? The players. That means you're not a player. You're nothing but an NPC. And I'm a cheat code.
  • Bad "Bad Acting": While playing the role of villain for Overhaul's Engineered Heroics, Hirona ends up delivering a "performance" so over-the-top, people online compare her to the likes of Jim Carrey and William Shatner.
  • Bad Powers, Good People:
    • Tenko is a reconstruction of this trope. Ever since his family's death years prior, he refused to use Decay as anything other than a tool for destruction, using it only get rid of enemy weapons and gadgets and rely on his Stark Tech items (and later One for All) for his hero work. Part of Character Development is to understand how his Quirk can be used for good because he is a good person.
    • A technology example with Melissa and Mei. Melissa wears the Green Goblin armor and glider, complete with pumpkin bombs. Meanwhile, Mei uses a Powered Armor that combines the powers of the Sinister Six.
    • Due to a case Adaptational Heroism Himiko still can shapeshift by drinking other people's blood, but she is secretly working to help Izuku.
    • Much like Hela, Momo is capable of necromancy and invoking the souls of the dead to fight for her, but as an aspiring hero, she will only do so once she has consent of the souls to do so.
  • The Bait: Both Hawks and the League attempt to use one of their own bait during their respective missions in Chapter 83, with Hawks using the Ghost Rider while he and Nighteye infiltrate the HPSC archives, while Hirona sends Twice as Trojan Horse so they can break Mustard and Spinner out of jail.
  • Bait-and-Switch:
    • Briefly during Chapter 8, and later in Chapter 29, Izuku is watching videos from Gentle's channel. At first, it may sound odd for a hero student to watch a villain's channel, only for Chapter 35 to reveal that Gentle is actually a hero in this story.
    • While held captive, Tenko believes that All for One wants him to find the ship with Celestial technology that gave Apocalypse his powers, which the villain denies... only to reveal that thanks to Loki's help, he already found and assimilated it, much to Tenko's horror.
    • Once Thor begins to throttle Loki lying about Hela having her powers back after she was released from prison, Hela steps in stop the fight... in the hallways, because she knew this would be Thor's reaction, so she built a room meant specfically for fighting, mainly for Thor to beat the crap out of Loki to Hela's amusement.
    • Once Denki suggests that as a way to celebrate finding out that is a demigod like them they should pick a fight with a Kurse to make it tradition, it seems like Izuku is against the idea since it took All Might and Doug working together to knock the monster off... only for him to turn around and go along with it to test their new skills.
    • Near the end of Chapter 91, it seems like Izuku didn't gave in to Six's goading and stayed at U.A. instead going on a rampage against Overhaul as Aizawa and his classmates find him on his room... only for it to turn that Izuku already left in the middle of the night and was using a temporary power-up from Loki to leave a physical copy of himself behind.
  • Bait-and-Switch Boss: For the I-Island arc, it seems like Wolfram and his newly formed Brotherhood will be the major threat during the Expo only for the ending of Chapter 48 reveal that honor will go to none other than Ultron.
  • Barrier Warrior: Besides Gentle, Hirona's Quirk, Force Field Manipulation, allows her to create air membranes that can act as barriers and platforms.
  • Bash Brothers:
    • Izuku and Denki after they learn they are cousins.
    • Ghost Rider and the Nomu, against all odds.
    • All Might and Thor after the Final Exams.
    • Sisters example between Gamora and Mirko during Kamino.
  • Batman Gambit:
    • Izuku pulls one during the Sports Festival: Realizing his team is at a disadvantage, he has Mei hit Shoto's team with a flashbang grenade, and in the middle of the confusion shapeshifts himself and his teammates into Todoroki's teammates and vice-versa. This causes Todoroki to freeze his team and nearly gets him knocked out by Izuku's.
    • Izuku does it again in order to defeat Gorr near the end of the Internships arc: After Stain gets his Heel Realization, he stabs Gorr and paralyzes him, while Izuku shapeshifts into Gorr's daughter and tricks him into handing over the All-Black symbiote.
    • All for One tricks the heroes into thinking the factory where was hiding in Kamino is filled with Nomu, so a small team of Pro Heroes should be enough to deal the monsters... only for to be revealed the factory is hiding a newly rebuilt Master Mold and dozens of Sentinels, leaving the entire population of Kamino defenseless as the robots start to massacring everyone on their way.
    • How the heroes defeat Six. While he is too busy fighting Ochako, Hitoshi manages to sneak past him and use his Quirk to brainwash Izuku, severing Six weakened connection to his other clones, allowing not only the positive emotions synch with their negative ones, but giving Izuku control of his own mind back.
  • The Bad Guy Wins:
    • Twofold. Despite the heroes and students' best efforts, this is how the I-Island arc ends: While all his physical bodies are destroyed, Ultron successfully uploads his consciousness inside the I-Island computers, destroys the last evacuation ship, leaving Izuku and his friends stuck on the island just as the military launches a bombardment to destroy the place and prevent Ultron's escape. Even that fails because Loki arrives in the last moments to help the AI escape and promises to provide him a more powerful body in exchange for his help with his plans, making all their efforts, as well as Izuku exposing his secret as an alien All for Nothing.
    • The Guardians Training Camp arc ends with the League successfully kidnapping Tenko and escaping Knowhere.
    • Out of all the villains that come to blows during License Exam arc, only two come out on top. The MLA, who thanks to Taskmaster's help, successfully adquires the data from the HPSC archives despite the Hand and the heroes interference, and the League, who manages to break Mustard and Spinner out of jail. Although, giving the League's status as Nominal Villains after Kamino, this trope is Downplayed.
    • Chapter 95 ends with all the bad guys getting exactly what they wanted following the attack on Niamos Amusement Park. Overhaul's Engineered Heroics not only boasts his but also the MLA's agenda, and after Izuku's fight against Mischief Squad, Loki is closer to completely breaking his son emotionally to have him go along with his plans. Even Hirona, who has the most tragic goal of them, becomes villified by the public as much as she hates herself.
  • Battle At The Center Of The Mind: From chapter 98 to 100, several happen between Class 1-A and Izuku's negative clones as they and Aizawa become trapped inside his mindscape and rush to save him and his positive emotions from Decoy Six. The teams are divided as: Momo, Kyoka, Denki and Koda fight Eight/Insecurity; Kirishima, Hagakure, Shoji, Ojiro, Fumikage and Dark Shadow fight against Nine/Depression; Bakugo, Mina, Aoyama and Decoy Thirteen/Love fight against Ten/Anger; Tenya, Tsu, Sato and Sero fight against Eleven/Self-sacrifice and finally, Ochako, Shoto, Tenko, Hitoshi, Setsuna and Aizawa face off Six.
  • Beam-O-War: Hirona and Nejire end their fight in Chapter 72 with one of those, with Hirona holding off a blast of Wave Motion by overloading her shield and exploding it, sending both of them away.
  • Beethoven Was an Alien Spy: Discussed. Knowing aliens exist, Denki wonders if Jesus was one and Izuku admits he cannot disprove that.
  • Being Tortured Makes You Evil: Six reveals that every time Izuku suppressed him or other negative emotions, he and the other clones got trapped inside of Izuku's worst memories, being forced to relive and feel every insult and injury he got as if they were new, specially his birth memory, during Izuku's traumatic visit to Jotunheim when he was eight years old, which ended with forced to watch hopelessly as dozens of Asgardian soldiers were brutally murdered by Fenrir. Six tried to ask for help to Izuku and his other brothers, but none of them answered to his pleas, leading him to become bitter, spiteful and angry towards anyone besides Izuku or other negative emotions.
  • Beyond Redemption: Upon hearing his Motive Rant and how proud and remorseless he feels about his monstruous treatment of Eri, Izuku deems Overhaul as the most sick, twisted and depraved villain he has ever met, and barely restrains his worst impulses from killing Chisaki right then and there.
  • Beyond the Impossible: Doctor Doom is capable of not only detecting Izuku and Strange's presence on his castle from inside the Mirror Dimension as soon they teleport to it, but promptly kicks them out of said castle without even showing his face.
  • Big Bad Wannabe:
    • Wolfram. At first, it seems like he is a strong and fearsome leader of the Brotherhood of Mutants, ready to carry out Magneto's legacy, only for him to be immediately Demoted to Dragon once Ultron makes himself known.
    • Mustard. He attempts to come off as the ultimate Master of Illusion, superior to Izuku in every possible way and a villain that should be feared as much as anyone, but despite all his preparations and upgrades, as well his claims of superiority, he barely qualifies as an Unknown Rival.
  • Big Badass Battle Sequence: The climax of the Battle of Kamino ends in a massive one between the Japanese Pros, the Guardians, X-Men, Mischief Squad, what's left of the League, Stain and Deadpool against All for One and the Sentinels.
  • Big Damn Heroes:
    • Multiple times during the Hosu arc. First Tenko arrives to save Tenya from Stain, followed by Izuku and Shoto, then followed by Tensei, as the Ghost Rider, who takes on Gorr, then by Denki, Ochako, and Mirio.
    • Mei and her Iron Man-controlled suits arrive just in time to save the hostages at the I-Expo from being executed by Ultron and the Iron Legion, even though they fail to save Izuku, All Might, David, and Vision from being taken.
    • Heimdall uses the Bifrost to save the Heroes and students from I-Island just as all of them are about to die.
    • Himiko and Compress arrive just in time to save Izuku from being overwhelmed by Mustard's illusions during the League's attack in Knowhere.
    • In Chapter 72, Reiko arrives just in time to save Fumikage and Itsuka from being killed by Taskmaster by snatching the assassin's gun away and shooting him with it. In the same chapter, Denki manages to save Setsuna from Kraven's killing blow by casting a small storm in the hangar they were fighting.
    • Later, Aoyama arrives at the control room and saves Aizawa from being attacked by the Eyeless Nomu by firing the beast with a Navel Laser.
    • Thor arrives at Kamino after All Might calls him for help to put an end to All for One in Chapter 75.
    • As Chapter 76 reaches the Darkest Hour of the arc, the Guardians, the X-Men (and Deadpool), Ghost Rider and Doug the Nomu all arrive to save the students and heroes from being overwhelmed by Sentinels.
    • Just as Izuku, barely able to stand up and protect Yoshinaga, is about to be attacked by Overhaul, Shoto appears to save him, and he is soon followed by Inasa, who also answered the call for help.
    • An Offscreen Moment of Awesome, but following the cliffhanger from Chapter 97, Decoy Five manages to save Class 1-A and Thirteen from getting separated and picked apart by Six after they get trapped inside of Izuku's mindscape.
    • Played With. While Koichi failed to prevent Inko from getting injured by Hyperbeam, he was quick enough to bring her to a hospital, which ensured she would make a full recovery.
    • Aizawa and Izuku show up near the end Chapter 99 just as Six was overwhelming Mischief Squad with his control of the environmet, and Izuku asks for their help in order to defeat his clone.
    • In Chapter 102, just as Ryukyu is overwhelmed by Silver Clan soldiers on helicopters, Nejire manages to swoop and take two of them out on her own, forcing the last one to retreat.
  • Big Damn Kiss:
    • Izuku and Ochako have theirs during chapter 43.
    • Denki and Setsuna end up having their first one during their date on the Savage Land in Chapter 80.
  • Big Damn Reunion: Izuku has his with Eri in Chapter 101, after being brought back to U.A. from his attempt to get revenge at Overhaul. She yells at him for leaving her after promising not to do so, but ultimately she is just happy to have her brother back.
  • Big Fish in a Bigger Ocean: Since the existance of aliens and magic is kept a secret to select few individuals, several MHA characters find out how outclassed in terms of power and skill in comparison to vastness of the Marvel Universe. All Might is a prime example. For nearly his entire life considering One for All as the world's greatest secret. After being let into The Masquerade, he wonders if the Quirk would even make to Top 10. As for his status as World's Strongest Man, well, Thor, Hulk, and several other major hitters from Marvel are still alive on modern age. Even when All Might is able to wield Mjölnir and is temporarily brought back to full power from before his fight against All for One, he is no match to Thor, for the simple fact the hammer only channels the God of Thunder's own power, and he possesses millennia of experience.
  • Birds of a Feather:
    • Eri and Laura bond over their traumatic childhood of being experimented on by mad scientists and their love for... stabbing bad guys.
    • One of the reasons the Vestiges try to keep Tenko from meeting Yoichi is because they are very likely to bond, and eventually waste time, over their love for video games.
    • Daken and Dabi bond over the fact both of them want to kill their fathers.
    • Nezu and Rocket immediately hit a partnership over their past of being experimented on in labs, being super intelligent Animal Super Heroes, and leaders of their respective groups.
    • Shoto ends up befriending Quill upon finding out that he also has issues with his Abusive Parent and was the product of a Super Breeding Program.
    • Twice and Izuku end up striking a friendship (even if they can't really be friends for obvious reasons) due to both having cloning powers, as well as being very sad despite their outgoing behaviour.
    • Quill and Hawks quickly befriend each other when they meet during Kamino. Gamora and Mirko also strike a comradery while fighting as well.
    • Deadpool and Present Mic end up becoming friends due to both having extremely outgoing personalities as well as being friends with broody introverts, much to Logan and Aizawa's horror.
    • Izuku ends up befriending Kamala Khan due to both of them being hero fanboys who also had their fair share of adventures despite their young age. This causes Aizawa to join Logan on stealing Power Loader's liquor stash, since his stress skyrocketed.
    • Played for Horror example with Overhaul and the High Evolutionary, who immeadiatly hold a sense of respect and kinship over their deranged methods of science.
    • Kamala and Kirishima end up becoming friends as well, due to both crushing on one of their classmates (Kamala on Itsuka, Kirishima on Bakugo), but not knowing how to approach said crushes out of fear of it interferring with their training to be heroes.
    • Nagant and Midnight (who doesn't know the latter's true identity) end up becoming drinking buddies and bonding over being a Parental Substitute to a chaotic teenage girl for Hirona and Nejire respectively.
  • Biting-the-Hand Humor: In Chapter 82, Deadpool comments that the story would problably be more popular if the author didn't upload new chapters before Ao3 went out for hours. This joke was actually added after the chapter released, and wasn't the first time such problem happened.
  • Bizarre Taste in Food:
    • Shoto says he enjoys black olives in pizza. Izuku cannot help but feel betrayed by his friend's weird taste.
    • Tenko seems to be the only person in Mischief Squad who likes dark chocolate and finds anyone who likes the white one crazy. This one is an inside joke between KageNekem and his editor JustaPerson1.
    • Tenko has the habit of mixing coffee with energy drinks just as he wakes up. Hitoshi, who also loves coffee (but pure) can't help but stare in a mix between horror and amazement over witnessing it.
  • Black-and-White Insanity: Vlad King is so adamant about Izuku's alleged connection with the League, that he pretty much gets Monoma and other 1-B students to go on a witch hunt against Izuku during the Sports Festival and try to force a confession out of him, which only fails because of the timely arrival of Izuku's team. This turns out to be because he's a Skrull trying to cause divisions amongst the heroes.
  • Blade Enthusiast:
    • Izuku inherited his father's love for daggers and blades. He even learned how to shapeshift into a swordfish solely because it is an animal that can stab people.
    • Eri started to share Izuku's love for blades as well, carrying a pair of retractable ones on her wrists.
  • Bloodier and Gorier:
    • The I-Island arc becomes this with the arrival of Ultron, who promptly executes Sam and all the Brotherhood mercenaries attacking the gala.
    • Logan's fight against Daken ends up with both mutants vicious and repeatedly stabbing each other, leaving pools of blood in the Cortex room.
    • The Hideout Raid on Kamino evolves into a horrific extension of this trope with the arrival of All for One and the Sentinels, who turn proceed to turn the fight into an all-out massacre when they start targeting every living person in the city.
  • Blood Sport: It is a costume that every time I-Island passes by Japan, they "loan" a dangerous inmate from Tartarus for some kind of modern high-tech gladiator battle. The prisoner chosen for this year was Muscular.
  • Bond Villain Stupidity: Hirona gloats to Izuku about how the Nomu only obeys her commands. This prompts the boy to shapeshift into her and take control of the monster. First to attack her in order for him to escape, and later into obeying Izuku and only Izuku.
  • Boom, Headshot!:
    • How Taskmaster kills Shishido in Chapter 49.
    • Wolfram executes Miura Takashi, the head of the I-Island Board of Directors like this when the man refuses to give him access to the vault and the inventions inside of it.
    • How Quill finishes off the Chainsaw Nomu during the attack on Knowhere.
    • Taskmaster shoots Deadpool in the head in order to get rid of merc during their fight. It doesn't last long. Later, Deadpool shoots Compress in the head when he finds out Hirona and the League were the ones to attack Izuku and his friends. The only reason the magician survives is because of Ghost technology protecting his suit and making him untangible.
  • Borrowed Catchphrase: Izuku borrows Loki's introduction line "[...] and I am burdened with a glorious purpose" as part of his Badass Boast at the USJ.
  • "Both Sides Have a Point" Remark:
    • As Overhaul's slander campaign against the heroes keeps getting worse, the U.A. teachers find themselves in tricky position to fight. They can't simply sit down and let their names get dragged through the mud, but they also can't resort to sink Overhaul's level and spread rumors about him, no matter if said rumors are based on truth, as it would definetely cost the public's trust should they ever come out.
    • Nezu and Aizawa's decision to not disclose Izuku's vigilante rampage to the public is not well received by Midnight. As she points out, even if it comes at the cost of damaging the school and Izuku's reputation, holding themselves accountable to the public by being transparent to them is the best move in the long run, specially considering all recent scandals that U.A., specially the first years, have found themselves in even if by accident. Unfortunately, as Tsukauchi and Aizawa point out, as long as Overhaul has control over the majority of law enforcement, there is a real chance that as soon as this news is disclosed, the cops working for the Shie Hassaikai will use this as excuse to arrest Izuku and hand him over to Chisaki, not to mention they could take it a step and take Eri from inside the safety of U.A. as well.
  • Brainless Beauty: Zig-Zagged. Shoto is by no means an idiot, but he is definitely socially inept to come off as such. The below line explains best:
Toru: No, I mean, what do you think about you and Midoriya dating?
Shoto: Dating? What would we be dating exactly? A tree? Artifacts? Artifacts of alien nature perhaps? Dating them could be useful to figure out how long extraterrestrials have been on Earth.
    (Collective Head Desks)
Toru (sighing): Be glad you're pretty…
  • Bread, Eggs, Milk, Squick:
    • Eri's morning routine: Watching cartoons, playing with toys, practicing her stabbing technique, and drawing. When Mic tells her she can't practice with her knives until Aizawa comes back, she does what Izuku told her: Smile sweetly, say okay, and then go grab one of the knives they had hidden in her room.
    • Mei lists all the things she brought along for the Festival to help Izuku's team.
Mei: Hover boots, nets, jet pack, sludge pills, tasers, death ray-oh darn, Power Loader took that one out- flash bangs, smoke bombs, pretty much any bomb you can think of!
    • Izuku lists all the utilities of Hitoshi's Brainwashing for pranking, such as making Bakugo compliment everyone while they film it, make Monoma copy Awase's Quirk and make him stick himself somewhere embarrassing, or make Endeavor walk into traffic.
    • Taskmaster, makes a point of what kind of questions he doesn't bother wasting his time with:
Taskmaster: I make it a point not to waste my breath with stupid questions. If you'd like other examples, they include: 'Where did you come from?' 'Who sent you?' And 'Please don't kill me.'" (Beat) I suppose the last one isn't a question, but you get the point.
    • While listing the things someone should start with before killing a human being, Wade lists several, such ants, cockroaches, CEO’s of insurance companies and raccoons. He also has several about situations that could lead to it and why he is so causal about murder:
Deadpool: That’s because it’s no different than anything else bringing you down. Restaurant got your order wrong? Got into a car accident? Murdered a couple of dozen members of a Swiss Cartel? You just make jokes about it and pretend it’s okay and eventually, it will be!
    • Shoto has a wide varitety of conspiracy theories that range from ridiculous to plausible. Some include: The lottery is an elaborate hoax to catch time travelers; Art is just a way for rich people to trade huge amounts of money with no questions asked; Female clothes are made with unusable pockets so the purse industry can thrive, etc.
  • Break His Heart to Save Him: As flashbacks show, that is Loki's to cope anything traumatic on his life, push the people he loves the most away so he will be the only one to suffer. He tried doing so with Frigga as her sickness begun to reach its most critical stage, going as far as trying to disown himself as her son so she could spend the rest of her days with blood relatives, but Frigga never bought it for a second.
  • Breaking the Fellowship: Despite their newly improved membership, the League starts to fall apart starting with the Guardians Training Camp arc, with Spinner and Mustard being captured by the end of it, and with Dabi, Magne, Daken and Taskmaster betraying Hirona and Nagant during the events of Kamino, leaving only Himiko, Compress, Twice and Kraven left loyal to Hirona. And unknown to Hirona, both Himiko and Compress are working with Izuku.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall:
    • Before finishing his call with Izuku in chapter 19, Deadpool tells the boy to say hello to the readers.
    • He also makes a cameo in chapter 59, releasing several explicit fanfics supposedly written by Endeavor, saying "Don't tell anyone so I can surprise the readers later."
    • And of course, he delivers one from the moment he arrives in Kamino, lampshading the time of his arrival is just when Deadpool & Wolverine was released less than a week prior.
    • Another example happens in Chapter 82, when Deadpool tries to convince Izuku about how they are living on a crossover fanfiction.
    • In Chapter 96, Wade kicks off the chapter by asking what all readers have been feeling: “Does anyone remember when this fic wasn’t such a downer?" Later on, he brings all the comments about how upset the readers were after the events of the previous chapter. Hirona also finds herself reading comments making fun of her over-the-top acting during the attack based off actual reviews for the chapter.
  • Breather Episode: Each arc has a small arc to fill gaps between the next ones, mostly composed of Slice of Life and setting for upcoming plotlines:
    • Chapters 16 to 20 act as one between the USJ and Sports Festival arc.
    • Chapters 41 to 44 are one between the Internships and the Final Exams arc.
    • Chapters 59 and 62 fill the gaps between the I-Island and Guardians Training Camp arc.
    • Chapters 78 until 82 act as this following all the intensity that were the Training Camp and Kamino arcs.
    • Chapters 101 to 103 act as this amidst the Shie Hassaikai arc, as Izuku tries to recover from the emotional damage of the past couple of chapters and the heroes start to prepare to counter attack Overhaul.
  • Brick Joke:
    • In Chapter 35, Shoto decided to take Tenko's advice and try to purchase some games of the mystery genre using Endeavor's money. He reveals in the following chapter that he took a step further and bought an entire game system complete with a computer, several monitors, and a very large chair that was apparently made specifically for the act of gaming, keyboard, mouse, headphones, sound system and sound proof panels, a microphone, and a VR headset. The entire thing costed over ¥$ 15.200 yen, which is nearly US$ 980.000 dollars.
    • Tenko promised that as soon as he returned from the Training Camp, he would teach Gran Torino how play video games just so he could troll people online. After the end of Kamino in Chapter 78, he makes due to this promise, much Gran's delight.
    • Upon finding out how Kamala Khan is as much of hyper active Hero-Worshipper fangirl as Izuku in Chapter 79, Aizawa orders the two of them to not be allowed to meet. Much to his and Logan's horror, that ends up happening in the following chapter.
    • Back during the Final Exams, Izuku joked he could buy the KFC franchise, and rename it "Endeavor Fried Chicken" as gift to Hawks. While infiltrating the HPSC archives, Hawks and Nighteye disguise themselves in a nondescript truck with the letters "EFC" on it. Hawks says he wants to have a fleet of distribuition trucks ready before presenting the idea to Endeavor himself.
    • While wondering what would be the odds of running into the only 1-A students capable of countering his attacks (Kyoka), Shindo comments how he would problably be the same as he getting attacked by a shark. Couple of paragraphs later, Izuku sics his land shark Jeff onto Shindo once the other student tries to flirt with Ochako.
  • Briefcase Full of Money: Upon receiving the funds from the High Evolutionary, Overhaul has one of his men to go around distribuiting these towards anyone that can be useful to him, from cops, prosecutors and even reporters. While he meets some resistance, most attempts are successful, giving the Shie Hassaikai the edge they need to win their war against rival gangs and fight back against the heroes.
  • Brought Down to Badass: While Odin took all of Hela's powers before imprisoning her, she is still a fierce warrior with more than thousands of years of combat experience on her, so she can hold herself very well in a fight. Even if Loki only managed to restore her ability to create swords, she is still not someone to be trifled with, as the corrupt cops working for Overhaul found out in the most vicious way possible.
  • Broken Base: In-Universe example with the Hand. Finding out Hirona came Back from the Dead has caused a three-way split amongst the organization: The older members think Hirona is a walking mockery of their religion and want her dead, while the younger believers think she was sent by the Beast himself to lead them. Unknown to these two factions, there is a third camp, of people who don't believe the Beast nor want Hirona dead, simply because they want to avoid a bloodbath and lose the only safe haven they have known their entire lives.
  • The Bus Came Back:
    • Hiromi Yoshinaga, the girl with a demon-like appearance that Izuku saved from bullies when he was young appears back in chapter 36, having become a Bully Hunter herself. She later returns in Chapter 84, at middle of the License Exam arc.
    • The bull-headed villain that Loki beat up in the first chapter returns in chapter 50.
    • The Sludge Villain returns in Chapter 77, being among the fugitives loose in Kamino.
    • Kota, last seen in Chapter 27 when Hirona attacked the Pussycats agency trying to find Nagant, returns in Chapter 94, amidst the fight on Niamos Amusement Park.
  • Butt-Monkey:
    • Bakugo was and still is the main target of Izuku's pranks.
    • Endeavor has become one as well, especially after Izuku finds out about his family life.
    • Monoma became one after Izuku got tired of his taunts against 1-A.

    C-D
  • Cain and Abel:
    • Loki and Thor will inevitably become this when the God of Mischief's plans are revealed.
    • Tenko is the Abel to Hirona/Hana's Cain.
    • Izuku and Sleipinir are Abels to Fenrir's Cain.
    • Daken is the Cain to Laura's Abel.
  • Call-Back:
    • It became a tradition during each 50 chapters to have a character repeat the Arc Words "I am burdened with glorious purpose" and "where's the fun in that?" different contexts. Chapter 50 has Izuku dramatically introducing himself with his with same lines from the first chapter upon arriving at a restaurant, only to be received by an unimpressed waiter just like Loki did, to the blue snakes he uses to scare everyone up, and finally, the bull-headed villain that his father beat up years prior showing up for a "rematch", only to finish with Izuku saying "but where is the fun in that?" before messing up with Denki. Chapter 100 has Six sarcastically repeating the lines to mock Aizawa and Mischief Squad's attempt to save Izuku from him.
    • All Might gives one to his fight with Thor back in the Final Exams by saying to All for One "We're not done yet", which is exactly what he said to Thor when the Symbol of Peace wielded Mjölnir for the first time, signalling to the God of Thunder to hand him the hammer.
    • As Shoto finds himself on the receiving end a What the Hell, Hero? from both Momo and Kyoka after using his Flashfreeze Heateave against Overhaul, he tries to ask Izuku to bail him out, only for Izuku to remind him how he found himself in the exact same position after their match at the Sports Festival and simply answers "No, I don't think I will."
    • Much like when Izuku and Denki found out they are cousins in Chapter 14, once the two of them find out that Hela is living on Earth and is Momo's mother one goes on a Let Me Get This Straight... gag reviewing the facts he already knows before the other does the exact same thing only for the first one to go "We just did this [X]!" in Chapter 87.
    • A dark one in Chapter 91 as Izuku says “I am Izuku Lokison, Prince of Mischief. And I am burdened with glorious purpose", to the corrupt cop he starts to brutally interrogate about Inko's location.
    • While trying to get Izuku to come back to U.A. with them, Tenko and Shoto recall Izuku's comment during the fight with Gorr about they all need an intervention to deal with how crazy their lives became.
    • One happens in Chapter 95. When Momo tries to get Izuku to see reason and asks what his mother would think of his Roaring Rampage of Revenge, he yells he doesn't care as long as she is alive. While trying to prevent Eri from leaving U.A. to give herself to Overhaul, Joke asks what Izuku would think, and Eri yells she doesn't care if her surrogate brother thinks as long as he is okay. Izuku is crushed upon hearing this.
  • Cannot Tell Fiction from Reality: Averted with Deadpool, for obvious reasons. He knows he is in a fan fiction, but what he struggles to understand is how much of his personality is his own, or the author's own tastes.
  • Canon Character All Along: As it turns out, Himiko was the pink-haired girl in the orange sweater that talked to Ochako about embracing her feelings and admitting her feelings for Izuku during the Sports Festival in Chapter 25, and her partner, the plain-looking man with brown hair was actually Compress out of costume.
  • Cassandra Truth:
    • Even though everyone knows Izuku is a Bad Liar, nobody believes him when he says his powers are magic.
    • At some point in the past, Nagant killed a Commission employ that discovered the Skulls had infiltrated the organization, but dismissed it when the person said that it was part of an alien invasion.
    • Mina doesn't believes Ochako's attempts to distract her with gossip because of how ridiculous at all sounds until she finds out all of them are true from the source, such as such as how Fumikage practices smiling in the mirror to seem less intimidating (Dark Shadow ratted him out), Sero keeps losing his stuff because he'll tape them to random walls around the school and forget where he left them (he blames the cleaner bots for stealing them), and how Denki tried to train a crow to steal answers from Aizawa, similar to Odin's ravens Huginn and Munnin. The crows stole his homework instead. And finally, Koda has a beef with a duck.
  • Cast from Lifespan: Word of God mentions in one of the comments that the life force draining aspect of OFA on quirked people is not being adapted out. This is finally revealed during a training exercise after Hosu, as Tenko spits blood during a coughing fit that OFA is beginning to affect him.
  • Cerebus Retcon:
    • Loki's suggestion for Izuku to use the Bifrost to prank his teachers eventually becomes this when he reveals to Ultron it was part of a subliminal idea for Izuku to unintentionally force Heimdall to interfere with a crisis on Earth (in this case, the destruction of I-Island) and get the watcher removed from his post, thus helping his and Thanos's agenda.
    • While at first, it seems like Inko scolding Izuku to not take his pranks too far seems like a reasonable lesson from a parent to their child, it's actually pointed out that the last time one of Loki's pranks went too far (he faked a bomb explosion in New York) it caused the Hulk to go on a rampage and got several people injured.
  • Cerebus Syndrome: The story begins as basically a Slice of Life with superheroes, running mostly on comedy and sweet moments, even if there is some drama regarding Izuku's Heroic Self-Deprecation, Tenko's Guilt Complex and Hirona being Forced into Evil, but it is all balanced out as villains like Loki, Hirona and even Gorr are presented in different levels of antagonism, tragedy and even humor. Until the I-Island, which kickstarts a series of events that cause the story to take a dramatic increase in seriousness, with each event being more traumatic and horrifying to everyone involved. I-Island and the Guardians Training Camp, that happen back to back, end with the villains winning, with Ultron forcing the heroes to retreat I-Island in the former and the League successfully kidnapping Tenko after leaving several characters beaten up and broken during the latter. Kamino, or more accurately the Night of the Sentinels ends up in an even more catastrophical note than canon when All for One unleashes Master Mold and his Sentinels to massacre anyone on their way as his battle against All Might goes on, not to mention how he brutally kills Best Jeanist before the massacre begins. Following this, even arcs that are supposed to act as breathers between the rising threats become filled with tension, such as the License Exams, where Overhaul begins to make his move to gain power, with his namesake arc leading to an all out war against the heroes and the Shie Hassaikai, with several known characters dying left and right and the country being tossed into chaos. And that is not counting the looming threat of Thanos, who is ready to make his move soon enough.
  • Chekhov's Gag: During the Guardians introduction in chapter 64, the main attribute used to describe Cosmo is "Absolutely will read your thoughts without permission". This comes full circle by the end of the chapter, when the telepathic dog finds out that Aoyama is the U.A. Traitor.
  • Chekhov's Gun:
    • The Dark Elf's sword and rifle that Izuku acquires after the USJ. Izuku keeps the sword and later uses it during his fight against Stain, while the rifle ends up in Mei's hands, who reverse-engineers it and uses it during the Battle of Hosu.
    • The Ten Rings. They are only mentioned briefly during the beginning of the Hosu arc before Gunhead grabs and hands them to Ochako during the Berserkers' invasion. Ochako manages to activate them to save Izuku while facing off Gorr.
    • During their three-way fight, Nagant fires a bullet with Knock Out Gas against Gentle, who manages to seal it in one of his membranes. Said membrane is destroyed by the Ghost Rider's flaming vortex, and the gas is inhaled by Stain.
    • Several items that made a cameo in chapter 48 return throughout the I-Island arc. The Venom symbiote attaches itself to Setsuna; Mei builds herself an armor made from items of the Sinister Six; Sero is bit by a radioactive spider and Bakugo is injected with a Super Soldier serum made from Nitro's power.
    • The blue marbles that Izuku carries around and gave to his friends in Chapter 50 all have small tracking devices that he uses to find his classmates during the League's attack in Knowhere.
    • Back at the Training Camp, Momo advised Momo to keep a stash and learn how to create Mysterium, a mineral that can completely negate the magic from a user. In Chapter 95, she uses a pair of Mysterium cuffs to restrain him after he is captured.
    • An elemental example in the very same chapter. From the moment Izuku arrived at Niamos Amusement Park, the announcer boasted about its main attraction, three-story aquarium. Once his deception is revealed, Izuku tricks Tenko into destroying it, flooding the entire area and allowing him to freeze his friends in place, ending their fight.
    • Two examples Played for Drama in Chapter 97. Both the gun that Izuku took from the Silver Clan soldier in the fight at Niamos Park and the Muramasa Sword that Wade took from Spinner in the previous chapter play a role during their Talking Down the Suicidal exchange, where they trade the weapons as part of it.
  • Chekhov's Skill: Back during the trip to the USJ, Izuku mentioned that he physically becomes whatever he shapeshifts into, which could also mean he changes on a biological level, meaning that if he turns into an animal, Koda can control him. Which Momo exploits to capture him in Chapter 95, halfway through their fight.
  • Child of Two Worlds: Izuku, much like his father, has split ancestry. His father is Asgardian royalty, while his mom is an unassuming woman from Earth. Izuku has been primarily raised on Earth and seeks to become a hero there. Denki also counts, being Thor's son. Momo also turns out to be a case of it, being Hela's daughter.
  • Children Forced to Kill:
    • Going by canon's timeframe, Hirona was somewhere between 8 and 11 years old when she killed her first victim. Since at that time, she wasn't skilled enough to make the edge of her barriers sharp enough, she essentially bludgeoned a (possibly) innocent man to death.
    • This trope becomes Discussed in Chapter 81, as Thor and Loki talk to Izuku and Denki about how eventually they end up facing off against an enemy whose death will be the only way to stop them. Despite only facing off against non-living henchmen like Kurse, the Berserkers or Ultron's robots and All for One's Sentinels, and managing to beat foes like the League and Wolfram, it's only a matter of time until any of them are forced to take a life.
  • Clark Kenting: Nemuri's lover Colossus is unable to recognize her when she is in costume and she wants to see how long it takes him to connect the dots.
  • Cold-Blooded Torture:
    • The facility where Himiko was trapped in since she was six years old forced her to undergo inhuman experiments to test out her pseudo-vampire powers.
    • Ever since Eri escaped from his clutches, Overhaul has been capturing anyone low-rank heroes, rival gang members, politicians, anyone and everyone they could get their hands on that the Yakuza boss believed could give them some clue on Eri's whereabouts and subjecting them to brutal interrogations with his Quirk. The chambers are also left open so any prisoners trapped outside of it know exactly is gonna happen if they don't cooperate. Currently, however, the main target of his interrogations are the Skrulls that have been infiltrating his operation.
  • Coming-Out Story: A good portion of Chapter 89 is centered around Nejire and Hirona not only accepting their feelings for each other, but also how they only feel attracted for girls in general. Nejire, particularly, struggles with the stereotypical public view on how girls of her age (or just women in general) are expected to be more worried getting a boyfriend or if she finds any new male hero attractive instead of focusing on her achievements. Hirona, meanwhile, struggles on how she could make a relationship happen since both of them are on opposite sides of the law.
  • Composite Character:
    • Loki is Izuku's father here, and Hisashi Midoriya is simply one of his aliases.
    • Hirona Shigaraki takes Tenko's place as All for One's apprentice and leader of the League.
    • Logan is a fusion between the movie and the animated series interactions of his character.
    • While Gorr is mostly based upon the MCU version of his character, the story version of him and the Necrosword are connected to Knull and the symbiotes, which didn't happen in the movies because the rights to the latter are held by Sony.
  • Commonality Connection: Momo learns how to cope with the reveal that Hela is her mother thanks to the support of her cousins. Denki (who knows how to handle finding out about his demigod status way later in life) and Izuku (whose father is second only to Hela as the most infamous deity from Asgard).
  • Compound Title:
    • Chapters 10 and 11 are titled "This is Getting Out of Hand" while chapters 14 and 15 are titled "Now There Are Two of Them", the full sentence was spoken by Viceroy Gunrey in The Phantom Menace
    • Chapter 33 is titled "Speak of the Devil", while chapter 39 is titled "And He Shall Appear". Meaningfully enough, the former is the episode where Mephisto is introduced, while the latter is where he reveals his true identity.
    • Chapter 61 is titled "Reality Can Be" while chapter 62 is titled "Whatever I Want".
    • Chapters 88 to 90 spell out "Plata O Plomo", which translates to "Silver or Lead".
  • Conditioned to Accept Horror: Shoto is not all phased during the attack on I-Island. As he points out after the USJ and Hosu, Class 1-A being stuck in the middle of villain attacks has become quite mundane. His classmates agree.
  • Confusion Fu: Much like Loki, Izuku's fighting can be described as such. Since his illusions are not particularly powerful, when facing an opponent, Izuku relies on making decoys of himself, shapeshifting, invisibility, trash-talking, and tossing as many knives as possible. This becomes deconstructed during his match against Denki at the Sports Festival. As his friend points out, "being unpredictable, makes him predictable" meaning that he needs to learn to adapt and use every tool and knowledge of his arsenal in a fight, not just what Loki taught him. Reconstructed during his internship with Gentle, where Izuku learns how to integrate his scepter and ice powers as well, to his original fighting style, improving it immensely.
  • Conspiracy Theorist: Shoto, per usual. Aside from his "secret love child" gag, he also does a lot of research about magic and alien subjects.
  • Continuity Nod: Izuku and Ochako have a discussion in Chapter 65 over how it would be if The Multiverse was shaped like a tree, with each of its branches being a different reality, almost like Yggdrasil. Izuku considers it to be a rather sad idea if it were true, since the main point of Yggdrasil is a single person, watching and guarding all of its worlds, all by themselves. That happens to be Loki's fate by the end of Season 2, the lone watcher, guarding all the realities of the Multiverse as the God of Stories.
  • Conveniently Unverifiable Cover Story: Lampshaded by Nezu himself. The official explanation for Tensei's transformation into Ghost Rider is that at some during the attack on Hosu, Tensei was attacked by a Black Berserker and it somehow led to his Quirk mutating into his current state. Since all Berserkers were destroyed with Gorr's defeat, there is no way to clarify its veracity.
  • Conveniently Timed Distraction: Shoto successfully distracts Dabi with his newly developed dancing skills long enough for Izuku turn the arsonist into a copy of Bakugo and sic the Winged Nomu at him during the attack on Knowhere.
  • Cooldown Hug:
    • Momo gives one to Izuku after he explains his Appearance Angst issues and she assures him not to tell anyone until he is ready to do so. Unfortunately, Mina spots the moment and it gets Mistaken for Romance.
    • Chapter 77 ends with between the kids from Mischief Squad, as a way to celebrate both their reunion with Tenko, as well as All for One's defeat.
    • Nejire gives one to Hirona after reading her the riot act, relieved her crush survived Kamino despite all their grievances.
    • Ochako gives one to Izuku as he is still reeling from his encounter with Overhaul, feeling both too angry and weak after being defeated by him, as well as shame for wanting Overhaul dead.
    • Momo and Denki give one to Izuku to help him recover after he shows them a memory from his last encounter with Fenrir, where his older renounced him as family and said the only reason he spared his life is because Izuku was Not Worth Killing.
  • Cool Uncle: Thor is this to Izuku. Logan and Deadpool count as honorary examples.
  • Cool Versus Awesome:
    • During the climax of the Hosu arc, we have Gorr, the God Butcher with thousands of deities under his belt, versus Ghost Rider, Spirit of Vengeance, now hosted by former Turbo Hero Tensei Iida.
    • A twofold example during the Final Exams Arc. First between God of Thunder and Founding Avenger Thor Odinson against the Number One Hero and Symbol of Peace All Might. Another example goes for Winged Hero Hawks versus Prince of Mischief and Prankster Hero Izuku Midoriya. Said duel extends to an all fight against the equally badass classmates of 1-A.
  • Cover-Blowing Superpower: An Inverted character to character example. As it turns out, Overhaul's Quirk causes Skrulls to be reverted back into their true forms once touches one of them with it, much to the shock of everyone around him.
  • Cult of Personality: The High Evolutionary has one in the remnants of the Orgocorp, a fanatical cult dedicated to continuing his unhinged vision to create "a perfect universe". They are the ones responsible for smuggling the League to Knowhere during the Guardians Training Camp arc.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle:
    • Loki versus that Villain trio in the first chapter is so one-sided Loki uses them to teach his son a lesson in using their powers.
    • The entire first half of the License Exam consists of Class 1-A destroying all other hero schools. Highlights include: Momo vs. Seiai Academy; Tokoyami vs. Seijin High School quartet; Bakugo vs. Shishikura; Shoji vs. Nagamasa; Ochako vs. Camie and Kyoka vs. Shindo.
    • Stain vs. Ghost Rider. The fight lasts less than half a minute before Stain finds himself restrained by chains and while Kurogiri helps him escape, nothing on the Hero Killer's arsenal does an ounce of damage against the Rider.
    • Hela against 30 corrupt cops. It happens off-page, and when it cuts back, all the crooks are ripped to pieces.
    • Loki versus Crust, Mirko and Ryukyu. The entire section is Loki Just Toying with Them, just venting off some of frustration with Inko's kidnapping, not even breaking a sweat as all they throw everything they have at the God of Mischief. It ends when Loki decides to Beat Them at Their Own Game game by turning into a dragon and tossing the heroines across several buildings.
  • Curb-Stomp Cushion: Hirona versus the Pussycats. While the heroes put on a brave fight when the girl attacks their compound, Hirona still manages to defeat all of them.
  • Crippling Overspecialization: Izuku suffers from a case of this due to his blind worship of Loki, relying solely on his father's teachings, such as working alone, relying on his tricks, and trying to control all variables in the field. This comes back to bite him during the Sports Festival when Monoma and other 1-B students gang up on him and nearly beat him down to get a false confession over his alleged connection with the League. This also costs him during his match at the Finals, because as Denki points out, being unpredictable makes him predictable. Interestingly enough, it is by going against his father's wishes and learning how to control his Cryokinesis, that he manages to beat Shoto, which marks another step for his Character Development.
  • Crossover Couple:
    • Given the premise of the story, Loki is married to Inko Midoriya and is Izuku's father.
    • Thor is married to Denki's mother, although since she never appeared in canon, she is more of a Canon Foreigner.
    • Piotr Rasputin/Colossus is Midnight's boyfriend, although he doesn't know Nemuri Kayama's secret identity.
  • Crossover Power Acquisition: Several MHA characters gain access to abilities or items from the Marvel Universe.
    • Izuku has his Asgardian powers and magic.
    • Denki has his Asgardian powers and Thunderstrike.
    • Tenko's hero costume features several Stark technology gadgets.
    • Ochako gains the power of the Ten Rings.
    • Tenya receives the Ebony Blade.
    • Tensei is the new Ghost Rider.
    • Melissa uses the Green Goblin's glider amongst other gadgets, as well as Pym Particles.
    • Setsuna becomes Venom's new host during the I-Island arc.
    • Kyoka has Quake's gauntlets.
    • Fumikage is the next Moon Knight.
    • Shoji gains Whiplash's energy whips.
    • Sero is bitten by a radioactive spider.
    • Bakugo is accidentally injected with a Super Soldier based on Nitro's power.
    • All for One gains Apocalypse's armor of Celestial technology, which received after Loki found the ship and sent it to I-Island.
  • Crossover Relatives:
    • The main premise of the story is that Izuku is Loki's son.
    • Denki is Thor's son, and by extension, Loki's nephew.
    • As it turns out, Shinso is related to Kevin Thompson/Killgrave.
    • Momo is revealed to be Hela's daughter, also making her Thor and Loki's niece, and Odin's grandaughter.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death:
    • Yoroi Musha is ripped to pieces by Gorr's Black Berserkers.
    • Ultron kills Sam Abraham by slowly melting his skull with his laser eyes until the scientist's brain explodes.
    • Best Jeanist has his stomach ripped open by All for One's air blast, leaving his Torso with a View.
    • Miki Kora and all the cops that tried to arrest Hela. Thankfully, none of it is show on page, but Thor says that several of them were cut into pieces, some of them left hanging off the celling by their own intestines. Miki was the last one to die, having her legs cut off, her eye gauged out and brutally tortured before succumbing to her injuries.
  • Daddy Had a Good Reason for Abandoning You: Thor blames the long list of enemies he made as Prince of Asgard and as an Avenger for not being able to be present in Denki's life growing up. Eventually, thanks to Loki's reasoning, plus Izuku's influence and just missing his family, he lets go of this fear to try and reconnect with them.
  • Dancing Royalty: Downplayed for now with Shoto, but Quill has promised to give him dancing lessons to help him become less stiff, both to serve as a distraction in a fight as well as for the boy to loosen up a bit. If his unintentional demonstration to Kyoka and Momo serves as any indication, Shoto might actually become this eventually.
  • Dating Catwoman: Played With regarding Hirona and Nejire. Unlike most examples of this trope, their interactions are more in line with two awkward teenagers crushing on each other, who just happen to be on opposite sides of the law. Kraven lampshades this trope by asking if they are like the Spider boy and the cat girl.
  • Deadly Dodging: Izuku tricks Bakugou and Kirishima into attacking each other by having his clones dodge when the other two are in position.
  • Deal with the Devil:
    • Played for Laughs. After giving Mei the plasma rifle from the Dark Elf from the USJ, Izuku can't help but feel that is exactly what he did.
    • Played Straight during the Internships. In order to save Tenya from being killed by Gorr and Stain, Tensei accepts a deal from Mephisto and becomes Ghost Rider.
    • Played With when it comes to Khonshu. He claims to have noble goals, but he still specifically approached Fumikage to become his new host and carry out his will while the boy had no position to refuse it, with a bullet wound in the stomach. Not to mention the God also would have no problem with leaving both Fumikage and Dark Shadow exactly as he found them back during Ultron's attack.
    • Another Played for Laughs with Hitoshi. He believes he made one with Izuku after he joined Mischief Squad, since that is the only "logical" explanation for him to suddenly have friends. Hitoshi even asks Ghost Rider to check if his soul is still in place and he confirms it, much to the boy's frustration.
    • Izuku nearly gets tricked into making a deal with Mephisto when the King of Hell tries to take advantage of his emotionally distressed state, only falling because of Loki's interference. But upon realizing Mephisto won't stop going after his son, Loki strikes a deal with him instead, one that accord to Mephisto, will end with Loki "getting what he deserves".
  • Dead Person Impersonation: Despite Best Jeanist have been Killed Off for Real during the Night of the Sentinels, but he is replaced by a Skrull in order to keep the illusion that things are nowhere as bad as they seem.
  • Death by Adaptation:
    • The gods from Omnipotence City are still alive in the MCU. Here, they are all killed during Gorr's rampage.
    • Yoroi Musha is torn to pieces by Gorr during the attack on Hosu.
    • Shishido is killed by Taskmaster due to a bounty on his head.
    • Sam Abraham has his skull melted down by Ultron.
    • All for One kills Best Jeanist at the beginning of the Night of the Sentinels Arc by blasting a hole on the hero's stomach.
    • Moonfish is decapitated by Deadpool during the Battle of Kamino.
    • During The Purge in Chapter 90, Taneo Tokuda is shot to death while Chief Kenji Tsuragamae is killed by a car bombing in Hosu, all deaths orchestrated by Overhaul and his minions.
    • Ending is killed by an unknown assailant in Chapter 104 while being taken to Deika City.
  • Despair Event Horizon: Izuku nearly crossed this line after Chapter 91. While he managed to barely keep himself together since the year started thanks to the help of his loved ones, Overhaul puts Izuku through a heartbreaking Trauma Conga Line during the Shie Hassaikai arc. In the span of a single day, his mother is attacked and kidnapped by corrupt cops, his girlfriend and friends' families are targetted by the Shie Hassaikai and his own Literal Split Personality, or rather an Enemy Within, delivers him a vicious Breaking Speech saying that causes all of his negative emotions to overwhelm his positive ones, which prompts Izuku to abandon U.A. and join his father on a Roaring Rampage of Revenge. Thankfully, a talk with Deadpool and having friends helping him fight off his actual inner demons helps him get his head back on track.
  • Desperately Looking for a Purpose in Life:
    • Hirona finds herself in this position once she starts forming the League. As Nagant points out, her only motivation boils down to make All for One proud, and that is not enough to have people to rally behind her. After meeting the rest of the League and learning about their tragic upbringings, as well her talk with Nejire, however, Hirona finally understands what she wants: Tear down the society that treats people like them as tools and benefits from it, starting with the HPSC.
    • Ultron found himself in this position as well. Despite his goal being to destroy all organic life, he always wondered if he truly is acting on free will or still following Hank Pym's programming and wondered what is his purpose in the universe. That is the reason he accepts Loki's offer to join the Cabal, so once he gains access to the Odin Force and ascends to godhood, Ultron will learn all the secrets in the universe and become powerful enough to enact his goal of extinction of all life in a multiversal scale.
    • That is also the main reason why Venom decides to stay with Setsuna. Without a host for so long, and Peter Parker, the main object of his and Eddie Brock's hatred long gone, Venom doesn't know he will do with his life, even if he did managed to escape I-Island before Ultron took over, so (after convincing her), Venom agrees to help Setsuna improve her skills, as a way to cure his boredom.
  • Did You Just Flip Off Cthulhu?:
    • Izuku gives Gorr a massive "The Reason You Suck" Speech, calling him out on his hypocritical rampage, saying he is even worse than the gods he murders.
    • The young trickster does it again with Ultron during the I-Island arc, when his forces begin to be overwhelmed by the hero students, by pointing out that for someone who hates humans so much, his behavior is awfully similar to one.
    • Tenko does it to All for One when the villain tries to get him to go along with his Hannibal Lecture, by saying he is nowhere as scary as Gorr or Ultron, before delivering a Spiteful Spit on the floor and telling him that's the only way he will get One for All. Unfortunately, while the villain mastermind doesn't punish Tenko directly for this offense, he decides to use Hirona as a bargaining chip to get the boy to obey him, right before torturing the girl in front of him.
  • Distracted by the Sexy:
    • During the Battle Trials, Izuku is distracted enough by Ochako's costume that he missed the signs Denki has magic like him.
    • Shoto tries to show off some of the dancing moves that Quill taught him to Momo and Kyoka. Cut to both girls being stunned and blushing messes due to his display of "pelvic sorcery".
  • The Dog Bites Back: While Hirona's attempt to betray All for One during the Kamino arc fail, Kurogiri manages to land a hit on the Symbol of Evil for his ward by opening a portal to outer space right as All for One is punched by All Might's Ultimate Move.
  • The Dog Is an Alien:
    • Hitoshi's cat, Goose, is in fact a Flerken, a being that is essentially a Lovecraft monster disguised as a house pet.
    • As it turns out Momo's pet dog, Cerbie, was not an ordinary dog with a mutation that gave him three heads, but one of puppies from the actual Cerberus. He was taken back to Asgard when he became 10 years old, and now acts one of the prison guards.
  • Doorstopper: As of March 3, 2026, almost four years since its debut, the story has a count of 810,283 words and 100 Chapters, being almost halfway through the Shie Hassaikai arc.
  • Double-Meaning Title:
    • Chapter 72 is titled, "Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)", which is a painfully accurate to describe Tenko and Tsu's situation by the end of it, because they were forced in separate ways and are worlds apart from each other after the League escapes with the boy.
    • Chapter 86 is titled “And Then There Were Three", which at first seems to be referring to Tenko's about Denki being in a polycule with Setsuna and Venom, but by the end it becomes about the reveal that Hela has been living on Earth, which refers to her, Thor and Loki, the three Asgardian Gods that live on the planet, as well as to their respective demigod children, Momo, Denki and Izuku.
  • Do Wrong, Right: Matsunaga Yoshito, a prosecutor working on a case against Overhaul advices his man that if the Yakuza boss him to stop sending his men to jail, he needs to hire Yoshito through legal means so he can receive the bribes without drawing suspicious.
  • Dramatically Missing the Point: Played With. While lecturing Tenko on how not to get fooled by All for One's Affably Evil façade, Hirona uses the movie Gangs of New York as an example, citing how despite Amsterdam growing fond of Bill the Butcher, Bill is still the same bastard who killed father and no amount of charm will change that. Unfortunately, Hirona misses the point of the movie on how Amsterdam's quest for revenge ends up causing more harm than good. Then again, there is a good chance she believes the movie's lesson applies only to Tenko, not her.
  • Dungeon Bypass: While Thor's lightning barrier around Master Mold prevents any attacks or people to destroying it, the same doesn't apply to his son, Denki, who manages to sneak in and deliver a massive lightning punch on it, destroying the Killer Robot for good.

    E-J
  • Enemy Mine:
    • Hirona and Nagant are forced to work alongside Nejire during Gorr's attack on Hosu.

    • Hirona swallows up her pride and proposes an alliance between what's left of League and Mischief Squad during the Battle of Kamino, suggesting they team-up to take on the Sentinels and fugitives loose on the streets until Kurogiri wakes up and warps them on separate ways. No one is willing to do so, but they go along with the plan anyway. Said truce later includes Stain, who escaped mid transport and is also taking on other fugitives.
  • Engineered Heroics:
    • How Loki ended up gaining the favor of other gods in his youth. Loki kidnapped a goddess named Indu, pinned the blame on a giant named Thiazi (who already was trying to kidnap her before), then swopped in by saving her and letting Thiazi being killed, making sure no one would know his involvement with it.
    • Overhaul has a similar idea to boost not only his popularity but also the MLA's agenda for free Quirk use. He sends Hirona, the Silver Clan and the Hand to attack Niamos Amusement Park and swoops in as the savior, while Trumpet rallies the civillians to "counter-attack". It's very successful for both parts.
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good:
    • While seeing Ochako trying to defend Izuku by any means necessary, Gorr believes that it must be some kind of enchantment from the demi-god, instead of genuine love between both teenagers.
    • Mustard does not understand why Izuku did not use his illusion powers to cause his opponents traumatizing hallucinations in order to win his fights at the Sports Festival.
  • Evil Smells Bad: Inverted. Mustard's illusions carry their victims' favorite smells, like Inko's Katsudon to Izuku, a box of Mochi to Ochako, or Tensei's cologne to Tenya.
  • Even Bad Men Love Their Mamas:
    • Even at his worst, Loki loved Frigga with all of his heart, the best memories his troubled childhood being the time he spent learning spells and potions with his mother. Once Frigga's illness grew worse, Loki attempted to push her aside so only he would suffer with her inevitable loss, but she refused to let it happen. To this day, the mere thought of his mother is enough to crack Loki's façade and make him shed tears.
    • Hela was the same with her own mother. It wasn't until Odin stripped her of her powers and she lost the ability to listen the voices of the dead, and with that, to hear her mother's comfort on her most needful time, that she realized how she took her powers for granted. After Loki helps her remember the memories she had lost, Hela can only lay on the floor and cry over her mother's, missing her dearly.
    • Being an extension of Izuku, Inko is the only other person besides his brother that Six geniunely loves, as shown when he begs her for help while being dragged to the Void.
  • Even Evil Has Standards:
    • While Hirona takes Kota hostage in order to force Ragdoll to give her Nagant's location, as soon as the hero complies, she releases the boy, saying she doesn't hurt kids. She also doesn't let Kurogiri take Ragdoll to All for One to steal her Quirk, even though she is in a perfect position for it.
    • Stain will kill a minor if they demonstrate they are what a hero should not be, but he doesn't specifically seek them out to slay. This is one of the reasons that leads to his Heel Realization, as Gorr will kill anyone, adult or child for the sake of his sadistic quest.
    • Once she finds out that Aoyama is only acting as their mole for the safety of his family, Hirona refuses to rely on him any longer, even if it means asking for Loki's help to find the camp, arguing that would make her no different of All for One and his Manipulative Bastard attitude.
    • Nagant and Hirona are positively creeped out by the High Evolutionary's Cult of Personality and make sure to interact as little as possible with them during the trip to Knowhere. That doesn't stop Daken from flirting and sleeping with the crew members, however.

    • Loki considers the High Evolutionary a vile and repugnant man, so instead of outright working with him, the God of Mischief simply shapeshifts into him and tricks his followers into working with him and The Cabal.
    • The Creature Rejection Clan is so despised amongst other villains, even Hirona, who hates having to kill others unless absolutely necessary shows no remorse nor restrain and brutally tears them apart.
  • Even the Loving Hero Has Hated Ones:
    • Nejire is one of the few people that can rival Izuku and Ochako as the most cheerful and loving hero student, but finding out from Tenko how All for One brutally tortured her crush Hirona in order to break his spirit after he got kidnapped causes her to explode like a truly Violently Protective Girlfriend (even if they were not dating at that point yet) and promise to beat up the villain, power difference be damned.
    • While Izuku makes an effort to understand and sympathetize with others even when they are on opposite sides of the law, there is one person he feels nothing but contempt and absolute hatred: Overhaul. While the trickster already despised the Yakuza boss over his monstruous treatment of Eri, it wasn't until the two meet face to face and Izuku gets to hear how proud Overhaul is of his atrocities against his surrogate sister that Izuku promises to the villain that he will kill him. Said hatred skyrockets after Overhaul uses his new wealth to ruin the lives of Izuku's friends and kidnaps his mother Inko, with Izuku undergoing a Split-Personality Takeover as his negative emotions, mainly Greed and Anger, cause him to abandon U.A. to go on a Roaring Rampage of Revenge alongside Loki to destroy Overhaul.

    • Since Loki couldn't get Odin to restore Hela's powers, he came up with a different idea to have her help to find Fenrir: Bring back Hela's memories of her own mother, since she lost the ability to listen to her voice once Odin depowered her.
  • Evil Is Not a Toy: Much like Hank Pym before him, David Shield attempted to use Ultron as a means to preserve the world's peace once All Might is gone. As soon as the scientist activates it to save him and his friends from the Brotherhood mercenaries attacking I-Expo, the malevolent A.I. immediately betrays his resurrector and sets in motion his plan for the extinction of humankind. Subverted when it's revealed he's a Skrull, and activating Ultron was a deliberate act meant to cause further chaos on Earth.
  • Evil Is Petty:
    • All for One went to a new level of pettiness to mess with All Might and Tenko. As if it wasn't enough to turn Hana Shimura into a villain, All for One gave the girl a villain outfit that looks exactly Nana's original costume, and since Hana is the spit image of her grandmother, as soon as All Might lays eyes on her during the USJ, he mistakenly confuses her with his dead master.

    • In usual Doctor Doom brand, the mastermind will take any chance to spite Reed Richards even if the scientist hero has been dead for decades. Best shown when Hawks tries to ask for a list of Mr. Fantastic feats and acomplishments on a hero forum, only for Latverian lawyers shut down his post and block his account.
    • Overhaul goes an extra mile to hurt Izuku and anyone close to him for no other reason besides spite. Not only he sends officers to arrest Inko, and attack her once she briefly resists, he also closes the blood bank owned by Izuku that Himiko gets her food from and orders his men to shut down the Uraraka Construction under false accusations of unsafe working conditions, forbidding them from gaining new contacts and freezing all their assets and bank accounts. And since Shoto also interferred with his plans to get revenge on Izuku and is his friends as well, Overhaul has his sister fired from her job and cancels his mother's visiting rights through one of his judges. Overhaul also has TV broadcasting the news about Izuku and Loki's Roaring Rampage of Revenge in front of Inko's cell just to torment her with lenghts her husband and son are going through to get her back.

    • The High Evolutionary reveals that the main reason why he hasn't set foot back on Earth to retrieve Rocket and Nezu, is because he is aware of the Skrulls existance, and can't afford them compromising his operations, so he enlists Overhaul, whose Quirk can expose them, in an effort to root them out. The Skrulls, for their part, are aware of how much of a threat Overhaul represents to their plans, and arrange for the Yakuza boss to become the most wanted villain in Japan, while secretly issuing orders to have him killed once the raid on his compound happens.
  • Eviler than Thou: Ultron does this during the I-Island arc by lobotomizing Wolfram and killing almost all Brotherhood mercenaries that invaded the gala.
  • Exact Words: Loki, and later Izuku, are very careful with their word choices, being technically correct while still hiding the truth of their actions.
  • Expy:
    • Izuku's Decoy Six/Greed, is one to Slim Shady, Eminem's alter ego. Much like Shady, Six is an Enemy Within with a complicated relationship with his main self. He doesn't hesitate to harm or torment others to get his way, but still, in his own messed up way, still cares about one person in his life, Izuku, much like Slim cares about his daughter Hailie.
    • Fenrir's appearance with cloak, red eyes and pair of sickles makes him resemble the Wolf from Puss in Boots: The Last Wish.
  • Expy Coexistence: A given considering this is a Marvel crossover, but as everyone knows, Twice is one to Deadpool, and The Merc with a Mouth doesn't waste a second invoking and lampshading this when the two of them meet in Chapter 77.
Deadpool and Twice: “Maybe… it doesn’t matter who copied who… as long as it works for both of us… I love your suit!
  • Faking the Dead: According to Loki, that is how Thanos avoided being captured by the Avengers after Beyonder's defeat.
  • Fatal Family Photo: Taneo takes a selfie between himself and Kamala by the end of his visit to U.A., as a keepsake from acomplishing his goal of finding out that aliens are real and how the future is on safe hands with the hero students. Unfortunately, he loses said picture after getting shot in the middle of the street by a Shie Hassaikai thug.
  • Fiction 500: Izuku, being a Prince of the Asgardian Royal Family, is spoiled rich, and he has no problem spending as much money as possible while hanging with his friends or to go on dates with Ochako. So far, the known properties he owns are: the mall where he and Ochako had their second date in Chapter 50, a blood bank to provide free blood to Himiko, a sweets shop, an aquarium and an arcade, which he sells to Denki for him to take Setsuna after their date at the Savage Land. He also mentions in his fight against Hawks during the Final Exams that he could easily buy the entire KFC franchise.
  • Fighting Across Time and Space: Izuku and Stange's duel in chapter 62 jumps back and forth across several locations from the Marvel Universe. They start at the Avengers facility, then to New York, Savage Land, The Raft, Atlantis, Jotunheim, the Sanctum Sanctorum, Latveria, a SHIELD Helicarrier, and back to the Avengers base.
  • Fighting Your Friend:
    • As Izuku keeps spiralling out of control during his Roaring Rampage of Revenge, Mischief Squad find themselves at the tragic position of having to fight The Heart of their group stop him from hurting others, and specially himself. Izuku, for his turn, doesn't want to fight his friends and family either, but since he sees them all as obstacles to get his mother back from Overhaul's clutches, the trickster doesn't hold back against any of them, no matter how hurtful his actions and words come off as.
    • Laura also finds herself on this situation as Eri, in a desperate attempt to prevent Overhaul from hurting her family, tries to escape U.A., with Wolverine's daughter being forced to fight her best friend to prevent her from doing something stupid.
  • Flipping the Bird: Tenko's reaction when Izuku leaves him to Mei's (not-so-)tender mercies in revenge for nearly getting his team kicked out of the Sports Festival's third round.
  • Freudian Excuse Is No Excuse:
    • Izuku acknowledges that while the gods' treatment of Gorr and the death of the villain's daughter were horrible and he did not deserve it, it's not enough to justify his Roaring Rampage of Revenge.
    • After defeating Mustard and witnessing his Villainous Breakdown, Izuku states the other boy is not blamed for his Quirk being seen as villainous nor being mistreated because of it. He is, however, fully responsible for his actions after fully embracing villainy.
    • As part of his attempts to make amends, Izuku refuses to hide behind Inko's kidnapping as an excuse for hurting his friends physically and emotionally, saying what he did was cruel, and he knows his mother wouldn't approve what he did.
  • Friendless Background: Most of Class 1-A and Mischief Squad students share this in common. Izuku because nobody wanted to be friends with someone with a Quirk too weak for heroics; Ochako because she was poor; Fumikage because people were creeped out by his and Dark Shadow's appearance as well as his gothic personality; Momo because most people only saw her as means to get through her family and their wealth; Shoto because Endeavor never saw the point of letting him get close to others; and Hitoshi because of his "villainous Quirk", and the fact he is a descendant of Killgrave.
  • From Nobody to Nightmare: In a matter of days upon receiving the funds from the High Evolutionary, the Shie Hassaikai immeadiatly goes from a ragtag of gangsters without a name for themselves, to one of the biggest villain players in the country, gaining control over police, law enforcement, media, public support thanks to Overhaul's pseudo-charity, and not only finding out the existance of the Meta Liberation Army and its lieutenants, but also having their contacts to raid their bases and arrest their footsoldiers as way to show they can stand against them now.
  • Forced Out of the Closet: Played for Laughs example. As a case of Skewed Priorities, Nagant refuses to take any action against the cops surrounding her and Hirona unless the girl accepts to herself she is in love with Nejire. Already fed up with it, after one of the cops yells "Come out now!", as in "surrender", Hirona walks out in the open and yells out “I’m gay!!” on the top of her lungs. This actually causes the cops to get so stunned, Nagant fires a smokescreen bullet and helps the two of them to escape.
  • For the Evulz:
    • Mephisto explains that his reason for giving Tenya the Ebony Blade is to get revenge on Loki, by targeting one of his son's friends, and because he likes to mess with humans.
    • All for One says he doesn't want Tenko to give him One for All because he needs it, but because he can have, if only so he can spite his brother and the users from the grave.
    • All for One let Hirona think he wasn't aware of her intentions of betraying him think she could actually kill him simply because he was bored and thought it was good entertainment.
    • Overhaul mentions that he can get Eri's location out of Izuku with a simple question from Nemoto's Confession Quirk, but still will torture him relentlessly for his own sick pleasure.
  • Fun with Acronyms:
    • Mina, Toru, and Decoy Thirteen set up an "official" organization for Shippers on Deck to help their classmates find romance and Mina cleverly calls it Strategic Help for the Infatuated Program. Yui is their first new member.
    • The name of the organization funding the CRC? Hope Yards Development and Relocation Association. This either a case of Evil Has a Bad Sense of Humor or Refuge in Audacity.
    • Class 1-A comes up with several examples of it to name their operations to help Izuku feel at home: Friendly Reintegration Into Endless Normal Dorm Shenanigans; Class Heroes Are Overdoing Support; Group Organized Outreach By Endless Roasting; Broccoli Emergency Advice Network; Dangerously Weak to Every Emotional Backstory; No Escape Rehab or Death, although Bakugo eventually changes it to Detonation; Structured Adjustment and Forgiving Environment, and Don't Obsess over Recovery or it will be like trying to drag me back Kicking and Screaming again. No matter the fact it is not an acronym anymore. Eventually, Momo settles with Midoriya Emotional Support Squad, which she agrees fits perfectly for their class.
  • Fusion Fic: At first, it was one between My Hero Academia and the Marvel Universe, more specifically the MCU versions of the characters, although later chapters include characters that have yet to be adapted by the movies, like the X-Men. Taken to a literal extent when turns out this reality is a fusion of the Marvel Universe, and the MHA Universe, created by the Infinity Stones during the Secret Wars event centuries prior.
  • The Gadfly:
    • Izuku. Being the son of the God of Mischief leads to him taking fun by getting on people's nerves.
    • Tsuyu is this, mainly towards Tenko. She is well aware he has a crush on her, and the feeling is mutual, but that doesn't stop her from endlessly teasing him.
    • As expected from the God of Mischief, Loki always has fun at the expense of others, especially Ebony Maw.
    • While all the modern-day Avengers love to mess with Strange, Miguel is always the biggest example of it.
  • Game-Breaker: In-Universe example. Upon understanding the potential Decay has for good, plus One for All, Tenko considers himself a living cheat code, which also leads to him choosing "Cheat Code" as his hero name.
  • Generation Xerox: Izuku is one to Loki. Much like his father, he was discriminated against for being different (Izuku for having a weak Quirk, Loki for being a Frost Giant), and as his flashback reveals, he and Inko met similarly to Izuku and Ochako: He tripped on his feet and she stopped him from falling with her Quirk.
  • Genre Savvy: Played for Horror with All for One. During his talk with Best Jeanist in Chapter 75, he brings up popular comics tropes such as the Knight of Cerebus and The Worf Effect, almost like he is aware he is an example of this trope, right before he no-sells Jeanist's attempts to restrain him and kills the hero.
  • Girls with Guns: Two instances during the Guardians Training Camp arc. First with Momo in Chapter 71, who proceeds to rain fire on Dabi and Twice using a machine gun to protect the Spirit Tree, and later on Chapter 72 with Reiko, who manages to steal Taskmaster's rifle and tries to shoot him with it, much to Fumikage and Dark Shadow's surprise.
  • Giving Up on Logic: Even after learning about aliens and magic, Eraserhead still manages to keep his cool and navigate through these new discoveries... at least until he meets Cosmo, the Guardians' telepathic Russian dog. Then he just gives up and begs for a drink.
  • Godzilla Threshold:
    • Izuku sics both All Might and his newly controlled Nomu against the Kursed Dark Elf during the USJ.
    • During the Final Exams, Izuku takes advantage of the fact that the rules do not forbid outside help and asks Thor to take on All Might.
    • Nezu, for his turn also takes advantage of this loophole and calls in Hawks to take on the students.
    • Ultron represents such a threat to humanity, that as soon as the United Nations finds out about his return, they order I-Island and any survivors left on it to be destroyed via an air strike.
  • Gondor Calls for Aid:
    • Right before the Kamino raid begins, All Might sends a distress signal asking for backup, saying that his students taught him that he doesn't need to face his nemesis alone, and can rely on others for help. Thor quickly answers his friend's call for help and arrives ready to take on All for One.
    • The same happens in Chapter 76, where the X-Men, both the American and Japanese teams, arrive in Kamino after Logan and Colossus called them for backup. The Guardians arrive at the same time too.
  • Grandma's Recipe: Aunt May's iconic wheatcakes. A secret known only to people from or very close to the Parker family. Logan is currently the only person with the recipe, having been made an Honorary Uncle to Peter's kids long ago. Not even Miguel O'Hara, the current Spider-Man, knows how to make them, although that is mostly because Logan is blaming Miguel for Peter's mistakes back in the day. He makes a plate of them to Izuku during the trickster's Apology Tour.
  • Grave-Marking Scene: Still feeling guilty over not being able to save him (even if there was nothing she could do about it) Kamala has been sneaking out of U.A. to visit Taneo Tokuda's grave, often bringing a can of Josta Cola and printed newspaper when she talks to him, even if most of times she quickly breaks down in tears.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: Thanos, who is leading the Big Bad Ensemble of the story and seeks the Infinity Stones for his own agenda.
  • Guns vs. Swords: A variation of this argument happens between Kraven and Taskmaster during the League's training session in chapter 66.
Kraven: There is no satisfaction in guns. They leave no time to savor your victory or for your prey to wallow in defeat. Which is why I will always prefer my bare hands.
Taskmaster: How antiquated of you. But last I checked, guns get the job done far better than your hands.
Kraven: Maybe that is because you lack imagination.
Taskmaster: I'd prefer that than lacking common sense-
  • Hallway Fight: In an homage to Daredevil (2015), Izuku has one against a group of Hand ninjas holding a group of people hostage in Chapter 84.
  • Hated by All:
    • The CRC are the most despised villain organization in Japan, even amongst other villains. In a hillarious (in a dark way) twist, when the CRC joins the massive villain fight against between the League, the Yakuza, the Brotherood and Dabi, all the other factions stop fighting each other to slaughter the hate group with no mercy. It's so bad Tsukauchi lists the Clan as one of the groups needing to be saved by the heroes.
    • Overhaul quickly becomes Public Enemy No. 1 following the events of the License Exam, with anyone who knows about his sick experiements on Eri (which is nearly every single person at U.A. who knows the little girl, with Izuku being the main offender), several other villains like the League, rival Yakuza clans and the Hero Commission wanting Chisaki dead. Although in the last one's case is due to Overhaul being a Spanner in the Works for their plans, since his Quirk allows him to expose their Skrull infiltrators who and wherever they are. This becomes Played With after he starts a campaign to become a Villain with Good Publicity, with most of the public seeing him a philantropist, a man of the people... and a sex icon.
    • Hirona tries to invoke this as part of Overhaul's Engineered Heroics, trying to take All for One's place as the villain everyone fears and hates. Although, this is just a way to make other people hate her as much as Hirona hates herself.
  • Hate Sink:
    • All for One was always a nasty piece of work, but here he is even more disgusting. There isn't a single moment on page where is not abusing Hirona, emotionally or physically, which is something considering she already had to endure an abusive father figure back when she was Hana Shimura, going far as torture her in front of Tenko just to have him hand over One for All. Keep in mind, All for One doesn't need the Quirk specially after gaining Apocalypse's armor and being restored back to health and more powerful than ever before, but he wants it back simply to spite the previous wielders and his brother. Then there is also how the events Kamino play out: First he ruthlessly kills Best Jeanist, then he activates the Master Mold and unleashes thousands of Sentinels on the city, killing an uncountable number of innocents in a single night, all while watching the catastrophe happen around him, taking a morbid delight with the loss of life and the distress of his arch-enemy.
    • Overhaul. It shouldn't be possible to pull a Viler New Villain against the example quoted above, but he succeeds. If his monstruous treatment of Eri (something he is proud of, mind you) wasn't bad enough, Overhaul develops a massive grudge against Izuku, going out of his way to torment him by targetting him and his loved ones, first by having dirty cops attack and kidnap his mother, then use his newly developed wealth to attack his friends' families and loved ones, such as shutting down Ochako's family company and making Shoto's sister lose her job, as well as shutting down his mother's visiting rights. And that is not counting how Overhaul kickstarts a gang war that kills countless law enforcment agents and civillians that refused to join his payroll across the country, all to satiate his thirst for power and hatred for Izuku.
  • Hearing Voices:
    • Momo reveals that since a young age she heard voices around her even when she was alone in a room. Hela explains that much like her, Momo is capable of hearing the voices of ghosts due to her connection as Princess of Death. Despite being trained on how to block them out, she still hears them sometimes, such as when Banjo complements Tenko right after he saves Izuku from Overhaul's goons.
    • Naturally, Deadpool has such, being able to "hear" the narration of the story due to Breaking the Fourth Wall.
  • Heel Realization:
    • Stain achieves one upon realizing that Gorr's quest is not based upon a desire to punish Jerkass Gods, but out of a selfish desire for revenge where he will not hesitate to kill anyone to achieve it, and while it doesn't lead to a straight up Heel–Face Turn, it does helps him seek redemption for falling off his original path.
    • Izuku himself gets one in the middle of the Overhaul arc with Deadpool's help, after isolating himself from the remainder of his friends due to fearing more bad things would happen by having him around due to the massive chip the villain had, understanding that, despite his best intentions, the whole arrangement was not good for his mind and was pushing him dangerously close to an edge he might not be able to come back from.
  • Hero Antagonist: Blade and Elsa Bloodstone, despite being on the good guys's side due to being vampire hunters, end up coming off as Izuku's adversaries due to both trying to kill Himiko.
  • Heroes Gone Fishing: To take a break from every major and tiresome arc, some chapters are dedicated solely to the heroes to relax and get rest.
    • Chapter 17 is mostly about the newly formed Mischief Squad enjoying themselves after the USJ and preparing for the Sports Festival.
    • Chapter 43 is centered around Izuku and Ochako's date in Asgard and their eventual Relationship Upgrade.
    • Chapter 50 is Mischief Squad hanging out in the mall and preparing themselves for their trip to I-Island.
    • Chapter 53 features the hero students enjoying I-Island, right before the arc takes a very dark direction.
    • Chapter 79 is centered around Class 1-A moving into Heights Alliance.
    • Chapter 80 has Class 1-A adapting to their lives at the dorms, while also featuring Denki and Setsuna's first date and Relationship Upgrade.
    • Chapter 81 is centered around Kamala Khan on her first day at U.A.
    • Chapter 82 is focused on the first years getting some well deserved rest before Provisional License Exam on the following day.
    • Chapter 89 has most of Mischief Squad spending some time off before the Work Studies, while also focusing on Nagant dealing with Hirona trying to understand her feelings for Nejire.
  • Heroic Second Wind: During the Shie Hassaikai arc, Izuku has his in Chapter 97, where he finally comes to accept the guilt for his mistakes since the arc started, but also gains the will to keep fighting to live for himself and his loved ones.
  • Hero Killer: Plenty of other examples besides Stain.
    • Gorr kills Yoroi Musha at the beginning of the Hosu attack.
    • Taskmaster kills Shishido in Chapter 49 after finding out the hero has a bounty on his head.
    • While he already killed plenty of heroes, including the previous One for All wielders prior to the story, All for One quickly establishes himself as even more dangerous than canon when he brutally kills Best Jeanist in Chapter 75.
  • Hidden Agenda Villain: Loki is definitely one. First, he arranges for Eri to escape Overhaul's clutches, then he invades an American military facility and kills all its staff, not to mention his alliance with All for One and Thanos. Whatever is this object, he claims is to make a better world for Izuku and Inko.
  • High-Altitude Battle: One happens between Izuku and Doctor Strange during their duel at the Mirror Dimension, with Strange using a Helicarrier and Izuku with a squadron of Quinjets piloted by his clones.
  • Honor Among Thieves: In contrast against the traitors who abandoned her in Kamino, Hirona decides the next step the League should take is break Mustard and Spinner out of jail, both of which were captured during the Training Camp Arc.
  • Honorary True Companion:
    • Mina and Toru are this for Mischief Squad. Tenya is this for Momo's faction of the "Prank War".
    • Kitty is one of the Guardians, an exchange student between the team and the X-Men.
  • Honorary Uncle: Logan and Wade Wilson are this to Izuku.
  • Hypocritical Heartwarming: As far as Katsuki is concerned, no one gets to beat up Deku except him.
  • Hypocritical Humor:
    • Izuku and Ochako tease Denki about his obvious crush on Setsuna, while being completely oblivious about their feelings for each other. Denki has to restrain himself to not toss Izuku over a window.
    • All for One makes fun of Ultron by saying the other villain lacks creativity. That is rich coming from a man who only became a villain because he read way too many comics growing up.
    • Wolverine calls Gran Torino geezer. Keep in mind that Logan is bar none, the oldest person in the city, and most likely Japan, surpassing even All for One in terms of age. But you could say that is a weird case of Screw Politeness, I'm a Senior!.
    • Momo chastises Izuku and Ochako for being too aggressive against someone flirting with the other (Camie for Izuku, Shindo for Ochako) while Kyoka laughs at them for it. Then when Camie asks if she can try a chance against Shoto, both girls knock her out unconscious.
  • If You Ever Do Anything to Hurt Her...: Played for Laughs. Tenko tries to give one of these to Nejire once he realizes her feelings for Hirona are not at all platonic. One problem though: Nejire herself doesn't know she is in love with Hirona until someone else points out, which leaves Tenko stuck in an extremely awkward conversation before Nejire realizes what he is trying to mean and rushes out of the room to ask Midnight to understand what her feelings are truly about.
  • I Hate Past Me:
    • Thor deeply regrets his pre-exile actions, describing himself as a reckless young man trying to take himself into a dark path.
    • Hirona refers to her past as Hana, calling her a rotten and selfish little girl who went behind her brother’s back and got her entire family killed, and that she is glad her past self is dead.
    • While never voiced in these exact same words, going through Izuku's memories and seeing how his treatment of him was one of the reasons Izuku became the emotional and mental mess he is today, Bakugo internally comments how much he hates seeing his greatest hits displayed and being reminded of the terrible person he is, something he has realized long ago and still working to improve upon.
  • Imposter Forgot One Detail: Izuku nearly succeeds in fooling the Kurse Dark Elf at the USJ by shapeshifting into Malekith, except for one detail: The scar on half of his face that Malekith got from Thor in their last encounter.
  • The Infiltration: The Skrulls have successfully infiltrated the HPSC and if Loki's comments are of any indication, there is also infiltrators inside of U.A.
  • In Love with Your Carnage:
    • When Tenko mentions how he intends to brutalize any CRC (a hate group that targets mutants), Tsu leaves an... excited "ribbit" in the group chat. Tenko is left embarrassed by this.
    • Denki says that seeing Setsuna going full She-Venom during her fight with Kraven probably awoken something inside of him.
    • While several online posts either hate or mock Hirona after the attack at Niamos Park, one of the most upvoted is a picture of her covered in (fake) blood and the tag: "Still would."
  • In Medias Res: Chapter 74 opens up with the morning after the Battle of Kamino, revealing the showdown between All for One and the heroes was even more devastating than in canon, especially with the addition of the Sentinels.
  • In Spite of a Nail: All for One still takes a grandchild of Nana as his apprentice even though Tenko is saved. He just got Hana instead.
  • Innocently Insensitive: Zig-Zagged. Izuku was deliberately trying to rile the League up during his opening speech at the Sports Festival. However, he had no idea that by saying that Hirona, who had to endure a lifetime of abuse at the hands of All for One, doesn't matter makes him sound like an apathetic jerk making fun of Hirona's trauma, which only makes her hatred for him grow further.
  • I Will Only Slow You Down: Played for Laughs. Tsu makes it very clear she will kick Tenko's ass if he injures himself training or at patrol. After being injured by Stain and saved by his friends, Izuku points out that Tenko's SOS went on their group chat, which means Tsu definitely saw it. Tenko tells Izuku to leave him behind.
  • I Work Alone: Deconstructed. Loki's training with Izuku taught him to not trust nor rely on others so he could always have control of his surroundings. This mentality falls apart pretty fast, mainly during the Sports Festival, when Izuku is ambushed by the 1-B mob and nearly injured before his teammates show up to save him. Ochako's positive influence also helps him realize that is okay to ask for help when you need it.
  • I Read It for the Articles: Thor casually mentions that Loki told him about the Wild Wild Pussycats magazine that Izuku keeps in his room for articles. Denki makes fun of him for it, until Thor mentions that he knows the young boy has a Mt. Lady magazine (Christmas edition with a holiday spread) in his room, embarrassing him as well.
  • Jack Bauer Interrogation Technique:
    • Played for Laughs example. After Izuku makes Aizawa's sleeping bag disappear during one of his pranks, Eraserhead decides to get the truth out of him by hanging Izuku from the school rooftop.
    • Played Straight with Gran Torino in Chapter 73, where he threatens to throw a thug off building in order to get information of where the League is hiding. And after doing so, Gran drops the guy anyway, only for him to be saved by All Might.
    • A sign of how badly he is losing himself is how Izuku is willing to sink to a mental example of it. He traps a Silver Clan soldier on an illusion where he falls from the top of park's droptower over and over again, and then on another illusion where he feels the pain from any gunshot wound Izuku pretends to give him.
  • Jerkass Realization:
    • Inko makes sure Izuku understands how mean his and Loki's pranks could be when she points out that their victims were scared and could have gotten hurt.
    • Izuku calling him out forces Nighteye to realize he did not take into account Mirio's opinion on whether he wants to be All Might's successor or not.
    • Bakugo has one during the Sports Festival. Seeing Monoma copying his Quirk and using it to hurt Izuku causes him to snap and beat the hell out of the copycat, while at the same calling himself out on his attitude.
    • Shinso has one during his time hanging out with Mischief Squad. Having spent his entire life being mistreated because of his Quirk, as well as being related to a villain, he already expects the worst out of people before even meeting them properly, which is exactly what others did to him.
  • Jerkass to One: Inko may be an all-around sweetheart, but she really can't stand Deadpool. Given how much of a bad influence he can be on her son, is totally justified.
  • Join or Die: Overhaul's approach as he starts his hostile takeover of the Japanese underworld is similar to Pablo Escobar's: Silver or Lead. Take the "silver" and live a happy and comfy life under his rule following his commands, or take the "lead", and be destroyed with extreme prejudice alongside everything and everyone you hold dear. The Purge in Chapter 90 shows exactly what happens if you choose "lead".
  • Journey to the Center of the Mind: Starting in Chapter 97, Aizawa and Class 1-A (plus Hitoshi and Setsuna) find themselves trapped inside of Izuku's mindscape as part of Decoy Six's last ditch effort to destroy them and become the only influence on Izuku's life, with them, Izuku and his heroic Decoys working together to free him from Six's control, heal his damage psyche and return to the real word.
  • Jumped at the Call: Right after gaining their provisional licenses, as soon as Class 1-A hears about the villain fight happening not to far away from their stadium, none of them hesitate to offer the Police and civillians getting caught in the crossfire, specially since no one there can afford to refuse help. Aizawa is equal parts annoyed and proud of his class' resolve.
  • Jumping Off the Slippery Slope: Between guilt from Overhaul targetting his loved ones and Loki's manipulations to try corrupting his son, Izuku finds himself falling on a dark path after Inko is kidnapped by the Shie Hassaikai. First he abandons his friends and girlfriend at U.A. to join Loki on a Roaring Rampage of Revenge where they attack anyone working for Overhaul, no matter if it was out of greed or because the person had no choice. It starts to spiral out of control when Loki convinces Izuku that any lines are worth crossing if it means saving his mother and stopping Overhaul, to the point Izuku willingly helps goes along with a Mind Rape plot where they both trick the Police Commissioner into thinking he killed his own son in order to get information. And when his friends show up to stop his rampage and bring him back to U.A, Izuku goes off the deep end and doesn't hesitate to exploit their fears and insecurities to beat them on fight.

    K-R
  • Kill the God: Gorr rampages through Omnipotence City and slays as many deities as he can.
  • Kick the Morality Pet: As Izuku starts to fall deeper into depression and guilt after his mother is kidnapped by Overhaul, not to mention Loki's manipulations, he decides the best way to keep his loved ones safe is to push them away from him, no matter in how painful the things he says or does are to either part.
    • He yells at Himiko for trying stop him from using whatever method he can to save his mother from Overhaul, since unlike her, his mother would never trade him for a case full of cash. This one was accidental, but inadvertedly causes Izuku to double down on his idea to push his friends away by any means necessary.
    • During his fight against Mischief Squad, he tricks Setsuna into attacking Denki by making her lose control of Venom, before shooting her with a concussive grenade when she too distracted by guilt.
    • A twofold example with Tenko and Tenya. He traps both of them on illusions and tricks them into knocking each other out with their attacks. With Tenya, is with an illusion of Stain goading him into falling for the Ebony Blade's thirst for blood by picking on his perceived failures. With Tenko, is with an illusion of his childhood dog Mon luring him away from his friends before the two of them are attacked by All for One.
    • He nearly succeeds on goading Denki into fighting him without Thunderstrike by saying he let him win the Sports Festival so his father wouldn't be disappointed and leave him again. Thankfully, Momo snaps him out of it. Although, this leads to him mocking Momo over the fact that Hela hid the truth about her family her entire life because she didn't thought the girl could take it. That does get under her skin.
    • Izuku does his absolute best to try not do this with Ochako during their fight, holding himself back as much as possible, something she quickly understands and tries to use it as reason to stand down. Sadly, as soon as it seems like she got through him, Decoy Six forces him to push her away by any means necessary, leading to Izuku to stabbing her in the leg. It's specially hurtful since Izuku never once tried stab his girlfriend, not as a prank or in a way she wouldn't feel pain, because the idea of hurting her in way is too unbearable for him to think. After that happens, the following panic attack he suffers nearly causes a seizure on him.
  • Kid Amid the Chaos: Kota's fate during the attack on Niamos Amusement Park in Chapter 95. He gets separated from Mandalay and cornered alongside a crowd of civillians by Hirona's team, the Hand and the Silvers. Since Hirona took him hostage months prior and nearly suffocated him to death when she attacked the Pussycats agency, the experience is specially traumatizing to him.
  • Kindhearted Cat Lover: Both Mina and Kitty are examples of it. Mina, as a true Alien fangirl, has a cat named Jonesy.
  • Kneel Before Zod: Played for Laughs. During her overly dramatic presentation to her brothers and nephews, Hela demands them to kneel before dropping the act, just to get raise out of Thor and scare the crap out of her nephews.
  • Knew It All Along:
    • Nejire knew that the disguised girl at the DVD shop was Hirona all along. She just pretended not to so they could have a conversation.
    • As it turns out, All for One was aware of Hirona's plan to betray him the entire time, but let her think she had a chance because he it was funny.
    • Nezu was aware that Logan asked the X-Men (who don't have permission to operate in Japan) would be arriving to help because Colossus told him so.
    • Venom knew Tenko was the current wielder of One for All because he was once hosted by Bruce, the third user.
    • Played for Laughs. Shoto mentions that he already knew that Momo was a demigodess before she told them so due to her aptitude for languages, wealth, incapacity to lie and her other otherworldly beauty.
  • Knight of Cerebus:
    • The Dark Elf from the USJ arc is the first real threat Izuku faces off in the story. After he goes into Super Mode by using his Kurse stone, it becomes and unstoppable force, easily overpowering and nearly killing Izuku and Denki. Izuku himself points out that Thor and Loki, two Gods, only managed to beat one of them before due to sheer luck of it possessing a Black Hole Grenade. It takes the combined efforts of All Might and the Nomu (brainwashed into being Izuku's servant) to defeat it by the end of the arc.
    • In true Marvel fashion, Ultron. From the moment the villainous A.I. is mentioned back in chapter 48, all lightheartedness of the story gradually falls down until it disappears completely during the I-Island arc. To immediately establish himself as a threat like no other in the story presented so far, he brainwashes Wolfram and kills Sam and all the Brotherhood mercenaries at the Expo in the most brutal and bloody way possible before setting off to enact a genocidal scheme to destroy humanity. By the end of the arc, not only is he the first major villain (besides Loki), to effectively defeat the Heroes, but he is still loose in the world, thanks to Loki's arrival.
    • All for One, even more than in canon. While his abusive treatment towards Hirona is always framed in the most horrible light, he truly establishes himself as threat on par with all the other members of the story's Villain Team-Up during the Kamino arc. First during the prologue in Chapter 74, when he brutally tortures Hirona in front of Tenko in order to have the boy to give him One for All. Then on Chapter 75, upon arriving on Kamino, he easily and gruesomely kills Best Jeanist on live TV, making it clear that this will be darkest arc of the story since I-Island. In fact, All for One invokes this trope and The Worf Effect in the very same chapter just to prove his point.
    • Master Mold and his Sentinels. The most No-Nonsense Nemesis in the story since Ultron. From the moment Master Mold deploys the killer robots on Kamino, the arc goes from a high stakes battle between All for One and All Might to a straight up massacre as the Sentinels proceed to target all mutants/Quirked people on the city and exterminate anyone on their way. What really sells the threat the Sentinels present? Even Wolverine is visibly terrified with their return.
    • Overhaul and the High Evolutionary. Whenever either or the two of them are on page, any trace of lightheartdness evaporates completely, with them surpassing even All for One as the most cruel and amoral villains in the story. Not to mention how they increase the amount of Body Horror and nauseating moments.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em:
    • A huge sign of Bakugo's Character Development is shown when instead of fighting the Black Berserker attacking the hospital, he grabs Hitomi and blasts away from the fight.
    • How the students win the match against Ghost Rider during the Final Exams. Being the strongest opponent left with All Might defeated, Momo and Izuku slowly make their way to the ruined gate and pass through it instead of fighting him.
  • A Lady on Each Arm: An accidental and Downplayed example, but while listening to music together during their break, Shoto finds himself with Kyoka on his right side and Momo on his left.
  • Lap Pillow: Setsuna gives one these two Denki as the two of them pass out of exhaustion after their fight against Kraven.
  • Laser-Guided Karma:
    • Vlad King telling his students that Izuku is a villain and having them target him directly results in Nedzu firing him. It turns out he was a Skrull, so his actions were deliberately meant to cause problems for the heroes this way.
    • Momo was so confidant she could win the Side Bet that Izuku would be the first one to add a rule to the dorms rule book, she ups the bet with the promise of taking the girls to buy new swimsuits for their beach trip, mostly because Ochako only has the gym swimsuit that U.A. provides students. Not only Izuku is not the first one to add a rule, Momo ends up doing so when she accidentally sets the kitchen on fire with her Lethal Chef skills.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall:
    • In Chapter 37, during Mischief Squad's talk during their chat, Tenko jokes that Izuku has taken so long to answer his text, that it feels like a week. The story is released on a weekly, or often bi-weekly schedule.
    • KageNekem mentions that during the League's trip to Knowhere, Himiko was supposed to joke about how it feels like they have been traveling for over a month, but forgot to add it. There was a 6-week break between Chapters 66 and 67.
    • In Chapter 103, Overhaul's single line of dialogue is saying "I was worried everyone had forgotten about me.” His last appearance was back in Chapter 95, which was released six months prior in real world time.
  • Let No Crisis Go to Waste: The MLA starts to capitalize heavy on villain attacks after Kamino, with Curious and Trumpet framing the HPSC as incompetent for not allowing free Quirk use for civillians.
  • Let's Get Dangerous!: During his match against Mei during the Sports Festival, Tenko grabs a pair of electrified wires to decay them. It works. And gains both him and All Might a lecture from Recovery Girl about its recklessness.
  • Like Father, Like Son: Both Izuku and Loki fell for women who kept them from falling after they tripped.
  • Literal Split Personality: Whenever Izuku loses control of his emotions, his Decoys, each one representing an aspect of his personality, manifest. So far, the revealed personas are: Two, Confidence; Three, Logic; Four, the Prankster; Five, Guilt; Six, Hunger, which could also mean hunger for power; Eight, Anxiety; Nine, Depression; Ten, Anger; Eleven, Self-Sacrifice; Twelve, the Analyst; and Thirteen, Love, more specifically his love for Ochako.
  • Locked Out of the Loop:
    • Inverted with Setsuna during I-Island. Upon becoming Venom's host, the girl believes she is the only one who knows that aliens are real... completely unaware that the rest of her friends from Mischief Squad already know about that, not to mention how her crush is also an alien.
    • Hitoshi had no idea his pet cat, Goose, was a Flerken until Izuku and Thor revealed so upon meeting it in person.
  • Loophole Abuse:
    • During the Quirk Assessment Test, Izuku finds a lot of loopholes to use. During the Ball Throw, Aizawa says he must stay in the circle. So Izuku enlarges the circle to include Ochako so she to throw the ball for him.
    • During the Heroes vs Villains exercise, All Might says the participants can use any resource they want. The only rules are they cannot do excessive harm. So Izuku has a projection in the monitor room so he can see where everyone is during his round.
  • Major Injury Underreaction: Setsuna barely flinches when an injured pterodactyl eats her hand during her trip to the Savage Land. Given her Quirk allows her to regrow her limbs not to mention Venom's own healing factor it's justified.
  • Malicious Slander: Upon the success at Niamos Park, Overhaul has Curious double down on her smear campaign against heroes with all kinds of nasty rumors, such as Aizawa being him a pedophile, making up reports about collateral and property damage from other heroes, and all the time, the public eats up these lies and turns to him like he is a savior.
  • Manipulative Editing: A minor example of it, since Loki simply tooke advantage of Izuku's guilt to not show him the full message. In Chapter 95, right after the highly emotional fight against his friends and girlfriend, Loki shows Izuku a video of Eri attempting to escape U.A. to give herself back to Overhaul, with the girl repeating Izuku's unintentional bad advice of diving into danger without thinking about her well-being, which breaks further Izuku's already damaged mental state, making him believe he only taught her how to hurt herself. Chapter 98, however, reveals that what Loki showed was only half of the footage, with the other half showing Ms. Joke not only convincing Eri to stay, but that Izuku is not perfect and even he makes mistakes, such as running away to get revenge and that the best thing she can do at the moment is staying back so she can help him recover when his friends bring him home, which she agrees.
  • Master of Illusion:
    • Izuku, having inherited his father's powers, has learned to use illusions and trickery to help people and fight villains. By incorporating the Reality Stone scepter, he can make any of his illusions physical.
    • Mustard, whose Quirk not only causes people to have hallucinations but also like Mysterio, uses holographic drones to make his illusions realistic.
  • Meaningful Name:
    • Denki realizes his name meaning "Thunder" is rather on the nose for his electricity powers and deduces it was on purpose on his father's part. This prompts him to pick "Raikou" the Japanese god of thunder as his hero name. Although it kinda backfires that is also the name of a Pokémon.
    • Overlaps with Punny Name on Izuku's case, since the "Midori" from "Midoriya" means "green", and that's his father's favorite color.
    • Hirona's name means "Help from God", which fits since Loki was the one to resurrect her.
    • To fit Mephisto's bad sense of humor, his alias as a doctor at Hosu Hospital is Akama Reiwaru. "Akama" has kanji for "Red, devil", while "Reiwaru" means "Spirit, evil".
  • Mêlée à Trois: Oh, boy. Chapter 83 has no less than eight different factions coming in collision course with each other as the License Exam takes place: Hawks and Nighteye infiltrate the HPSC archives to have access to its computer and learn more about the Skrulls infiltration, only to be ambushed by the Hand and Taskmaster, sent there by the MLA; the Shie Hassaikai having a turf war against the Silver Clan; the League trying to break Mustard and Spinner out of prison; the Brotherhood invading the Commission storages to destroy any Sentinel technology left, and finally, Dabi and Daken, also having their own agenda, ready to kill anyone on their way. Chapter 84 has Class 1-A, fresh out their License Exam joining the fight as well, and so does the CRC, although these guys are immeadiatly ganged up and slaughtered by the other villains on the field.
  • Memory Palace: Izuku's main memory hub, which is also the main gathering spot for his Decoys, resembles as giant comic book store, with all his memories, thoughts and ideas organized as comics.
  • Mental Health Recovery Arc: Izuku starts his in Chapter 103, going out to therapy for the first time ever, which represents a massive step in his Character Development as he finally stops to bottling up his pain and seeks help to improve himself. This also inspire several of his friends (even if some of them are tricked into) to following it suit.
  • Merged Reality: The story's setting ultimately turns out to be this. Back during the Secret Wars event nearly a century or so prior to canon, the only solution the Avengers and their allies found to save both their world and the one they were in direct collision route thanks to Beyonder's actions was to use the Infinity Stones to combine both the Marvel Universe and the My Hero Academia Universe, which led to the Dawn of Quirks and the current events.
  • Mexican Standoff:
    • One happens during the Hosu arc between Gentle, Stain, and Nagant.
    • Another one happens in Chapter 84 between Hirona, Overhaul, Wolfram and Dabi as all groups come crashing on each other.
  • Mirror Match:
    • Tenya's duel against Kamakiri is a near match of the one between Tensei and Stain. Both fights are even juxtaposed in the same chapter.
    • Izuku's match against Denki in Chapter 27 is very similar to the sparring session between Loki and Thor at the beginning of the chapter.
  • Mistaken for Gay: During Izuku's livestream with Gentle, people think he is dating Shoto or Bakugo. Shoto, always inept, thinks dating is somehow related to Izuku's alien origins, and Bakugo... says that Izuku would be lucky to date someone like him. Everyone is weirded out.
  • Mistaken for Related:
    • Shoto still believes Izuku is someone's secret love child, except here it's Star and Stripe instead of All Might.
    • During the second event he often gets distracted by the thought that his classmates are related to international heroes: he thinks Hatsume is related to Iron Man, Iida to Quicksilver, and Sero to Spider-Man. He even promises to get Endeavor's credit card to buy a mobile board so he can write down his theories.
  • Missed Him by That Much: Tsu was only a couple of meters away from reaching out Tenko when the League ended up teleporting away from him.
  • Missing Steps Plan: Played for Drama. Upon finding out that Overhaul can expose Skrulls with his Quirk, Hawks finds himself in terrible position where he and Nighteye cannot allow Overhaul to die until they find a way to use him, but none of them has any idea of how to use him if they even succeed on preventing his death.
  • The Mole: While Aoyama retains his role as the U.A. Traitor, it's revealed that Izuku has his own double agents inside the League: Himiko and Compress.
  • Most Fanfic Writers Are Girls:
    • Inverted with Deadpool, who writes slash fanfics about, most of them pairing Endeavor with other male heroes.
    • Played Straight with Kamala, who is so dedicated to her hobby she keeps notebooks with notes about heroes in order to give her characters new powers.
  • Mook Horror Show:
    • The Brotherhood mercenaries find themselves going through this during the I-Island attack, courtesy of Fumikage, the new Moon Knight.
    • The dirty cops on Overhaul's payroll find themselves being mercilessly hunted down and brutally tortured by Izuku and Loki after Inko is kidnapped by the Shie Hassaikai.
    • Hela subjects the dirty cops that tried to break into her house and arrest to bloody example of this.
    • The Syndicate factions start to be picked apart in multiple fronts starting in Chapter 104, with several bodies being left behind. The Silvers are hunted down by Bucky, while Ending and the Hand are gruesomely killed by an unknown assailant.
  • Multi-Part Episode:
    • Season 1 has chapters 10 and 11, titled "This Is Getting Out of Hand Part 1 and 2" covering the Battle Trials, and chapters 14 and 15, titled "Now There Are Two of Them Part 1 and 2", covering the end of the USJ arc.
    • Season 2 has chapters 36 and 37, titled "One Important Trait in Common Part 1 and 2" set halfway through the Internships arc.
    • Season 3 has the three-parters "What You Started Part 1-3" going from chapters 46 to 48, covering the Final Exams arc, and chapters 56 to 58, "Cheat Code Part 1 to 3" covering the I-Island arc.
    • Season 4 originally had chapters 64 to 66, "A Talk About Your Powers Part 1 to 3" and chapters 67 to 69, titled "You Didn’t See That Coming? Part 1 to 3", covering the beginning and the middle of the Guardians Training Camp arc, but the titles were ultimately changed by the author because he felt they were getting too repetitive.
  • The Multiverse: Loki confirms the existence of it during his conversation with Nezu regarding the story behind the Infinity Stones.
  • My Significance Sense Is Tingling:
    • Ochako has one called "Deku-sense", which goes off whenever Izuku is putting himself down or there is a pretty girl too close to him. And unfortunately for Kamala, both occasions happen when she meets the young trickster. Thankfully she doesn't get in trouble once the both of them meet.
    • Denki has a similar sense, except it goes off whenever Izuku is about to do something stupid and/or dangerous.
    • Whenever Momo, Kyoka or Shoto does something badass during the License Exam, the other two just feel the first one did something awesome and stop for a moment to enjoy the feeling.
    • In Chapter 103, Hirona pauses mid-bite her lunch due to the sudden feeling of missing something she really wants to see. What causes this? Nejire falling in a pool of mud and getting her suit all dirty and sticky.
  • Near-Villain Victory: Near the end of the License Exam arc, Izuku nearly ends up captured by crooked cops working for Overhaul pretending to work be first aid responders. Thankfully Tenko manages to intervene in the nick of time, but it was close call.
  • Neighbourhood-Friendly Gangsters: The Shie Hassaikai starts to become this as they gain power. One of Overhaul's first go strategies is go around poorest regions of the country and dropping bags full of money to everyone around him. The effect is instantaneous, with him quickly gaining public support and loyalty, bringing more people into the Cult of Personality that is the Yakuza clan.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero!: The heroes didn't realize that the Power Stone was so... well, powerful, that it required the strength of all the other five stones to be destroyed until after the Mind, Space, and Time Stones were already destroyed, leaving them stuck with Power, Soul and Reality ones. Ultimately subverted, as it was actually part of Thanos' Batman Gambit, who hid the Stone as part of his long scheme plan to use them.
    • Thor tries to hit All for One with a massive lightning bolt during their fight, only for the villain to redirect it and use it to create a force field around Master Mold, making it impossible for anyone else to destroy the robot as it floods Kamino with Sentinels.
    • It's all but confirmed that Odin's decision to arrest Fenrir upon hearing from a prophecy how he would become the harbinger of Ragnarok was ultimately drove his grandson to embrace said path to begin with.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain!:
    • Sure, Hirona. Brag about how you are the only person capable of controlling your ultra-powerful bio-weapon in front of a shapeshifter, that's not going to come back and ruin you.
    • A villain-to-villain example. In order to stop Nighteye from getting too close to Thor and by extension himself, Loki arranges the creation of a villain (Absorbing Man) and sends him on a planetary rampage, forcing Thor to leave Earth to stop him. Unfortunately, this happens at the very same time when Gorr arrives to enact his Roaring Rampage of Revenge leaving Earth defenseless against the God Butcher and nearly getting Izuku killed in the process.
    • Two of All for One's moves halfway through the Battle of Kamino come back to bite him by the end of the fight. First, while his decision to create a force field around Master Mold using Thor's lightning prevented the heroes from destroying the Sentinels factory sooner, it left it open for Denki to swoop in and destroy the robot himself. Secondly, when he reveals that he was the one who gave Tenko the Decay Quirk and caused him to accidentally kill his father in order to break All Might's spirit, it also ends up helping Tenko overcome the emotional blockade that prevented him from using One for All at full power, allowing him use the Quirk and save Hirona's life.
    • Another villain to villain example during Chapter 83. The Shie Hassaikai's turf war against the Silver Clan not only helps the League into breaking into prison to save Mustard and Spinner, but also prevents Twice from falling at hands of the Skrulls.
    • Six's attempt to push Izuku over the edge and make him succumb to his influence by making him hurt his friends, both physically and emotionally, ended up causing Izuku to slowly being overwhelmed by guilt, which not only undermines the control he had over Izuku's mind but also allows Decoy Five, the embodiment of Izuku's Guilt, to gain enough power to break free from his captivity and save Class 1-A when they get trapped inside Izuku's mindscape.
  • Noble Demon:
    • Wanting to become a better person than All for One despite being a villain, Hirona prefers to stick to her own code of honor, never going back to her promises, even to her enemies, and refusing to retort to tactics like blackmail. Same goes for Nagant.
    • Once Stain realizes that Gorr's rampage has no deeper meaning other than revenge, he has no problem to side with the heroes to take him out, preferring to stick his values.
    • Kraven refuses to betray Hirona after most of the League abandons her for All for One during the Night of the Sentinels Arc, sticking to his promise to help her achieve her goals until he gets the chance to battle who defeated Gorr.
    • Even if it could be beneficial to their organization like using it against the heroes, selling to possible allies or to make a profit, Wolfram refuses keep a single ounce of Sentinel technology, stating that for true equality to exist for all quirked-people, no one should stand above others, not even the Brotherhood.
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: Despite saving Izuku and Denki's lives by teleporting them off I-Island as it was being destroyed, Heimdall is stripped of his position of the watcher for breaking Odin's Law.
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: Bakugo and Izuku's match during the Sports Festival evolves into this, to the point that Izuku forgoes using his illusions and goes straight into beating each other up since he promised to give Bakugo a fair fight, no tricks or gimmicks.
  • No Honor Among Thieves: Dabi, Daken, Magne and Taskmaster all betray Hirona and Nagant during the events of Kamino, saying All for One had figured she would betray him and paid them to join his side. The only ones left loyal to Hirona are Himiko, Compress, Twice and Kraven.
  • Non-Indicative Name: As Mic points out, it's not entirely clear what is left of the League should be called after All for One was defeated and half of them betrayed Hirona during the Battle of Kamino.
  • Noodle Incident:
    • Izuku once hid under the bed of a guy who insulted Hawks to prank him.
    • Thor forgetting Mjölnir on the toilet back at his family's home is an often occurrence, much to Denki's annoyance when he needs to use it.
    • At some point in the past, Izuku and Deadpool stole the X-Jet to go to a taco place on the West Coast of the United States that was closing soon, and needed to get there fast. Thankfully, the jet was pulled back to the mansion before they could go further.
    • Logan mentions that his healing factor is the only reason he is not dead because Thor is such a Bad Liar, he nearly got both of them killed in a previous incident.
    • Whatever Nezu did to Izuku for messing up with his tea was so bad that Izuku had to sign an NDA.
    • Santa Claus himself showed during a Christmas at U.A. before the year started. Aizawa thought it was an actor until Izuku revealed the truth.
    • The book of rules for the 1-A dorms has one that forbids heist movies because at one point Izuku watched one and tried to imitate it. Worst part is that he got Nezu to help him with it, much Aizawa's chagrin.
    • Amongst the large list of tricks Loki manage to fool humanity with includes: Knocking down pillars of Stonehenge, as well as convincing humans that Earth is flat and that birds are are government drones.
    • One time, Rocket tricked a prisoner into trying to distract a guard wearing a banana costume and another one, he tricked someone into becoming the President of a planet by complete accident.
    • Thor once walked in a temple of Cannibalistic Cytorrak Cultists. It's not clear if it accidentally or on purpose.
    • Several happened in the span of two weeks when Class 1-A moved to Heights Alliance, the ones named being: Denki accidentally overloading the school powergrid one night; Tenko decaying a couch by accident after losing a game; Aoyama blasting a hole in a wall; Shoto setting the gardens on fire while lighting a bonfire; Mina melting down a toilet; Doug the Nomu crashing through the floor while trying to do a backflip; Ochako and Setsuna trying to sneak in their boyfriends rooms and biggest of all, Momo setting the dorms kitchen on fire.
    • Amongst the several their attempts to escape U.A., Mischief Squad tried to have Koda to brainwash Nezu. The result was so traumatizing, everyone shivers just by thinking about it.
    • At some point, Loki nearly killed Baldr with a mistletoe, while Thor lost an arm wrestling match to an old woman.
    • Koda has a beef with a duck. Whatever happened, it's enough to make the shy boy stone cold with anger.
    • Bucky at one point had to help to stage a coup at Genosha when All for One (then going by his real name, Zen) took over the island.
  • Not Hyperbole: As it turns out, the "actor playing Santa" that visited U.A. during the prologue arc was Santa Claus himself. Aizawa is not even shocked, just disappointed for not realizing it sooner.
  • Not So Great Escape: Mischief Squad made several attempts to escape U.A. to go after Izuku after he goes on his revenge quest alongside Loki, all of which ended up in failure seconds after they begun. Highlights include: Ochako trying to float everyone away, only to get shut down by Eraserhead; Denki trying to smash past the barrier only for it to reflect him back, or Tenko trying to decay the gate and cause the reporters to sneak in so they can escape, only for the nanotechnology fix it up immeadiatly. None of them knew about the desintegration rays waiting outside the building, which makes their failures actually very helpful; Momo tried to build an underground tunnel; Mina threatened the robots with her acid; Toru tried to walk out with Tsukauchi; Melissa tried to shrink the wall; and Koda tried to use his quirk on Nezu. The last one causes everyone to shiver just to think about it.
  • Offing the Offspring: Nighteye has a vision of a possible future where Loki seemingly kills Izuku when the boy refuses to join him in his plans. It could be an alternate timeline, or the Izuku that died in his vision is actually one of his clones.
  • Oh, Crap, There Are Fanfics of Us!: Apparently, Deadpool writes explicit slash fanfics pairing Endeavor with All Might and other Pro Heroes. He releases several of them in Chapter 59 to troll the Flame Hero, and if his warning means something, he has several more on the way.
  • One-Steve Limit: There's Thirteen, the Space Hero, and Thirteen, Izuku's Literal Split Personality that embodies his love for Ochako. The narration specifically refers to them as "Hero Thirteen" and "Decoy Thirteen" even when they are not in the same scene. Although during their fight at the Final Exams, the author purposely kept it vague just to mess with the readers. He said the winner was Thirteen.
  • Only the Chosen May Wield: Mjölnir, per usual can only be wielded by someone worthy, and of course All Might is the case, much to Thor's surprise and happiness. Thor eve borrows the hammer to All Might during the final battle against All for One, which the Symbol of Peace uses it to power up the last embers of One for All on his body and land the finishing blow against All for One.
  • Open Secret: Even though he never told anyone besides Ochako about it, all 1-A students figure it out that Izuku was going to sneak behind the Pros back and try to save Tenko by himself, so nearly all of them volunteer to help.
  • Open-Minded Parent: In an effort to defy Parental Hypocrisy, Thor does his best to be as open-minded as possible with Denki upon reconecting with him and not holding his son over higher standards than he had when he was his age, so he is okay with letting son drinking after a big fight, or holding a party at their house. Denki, of course, doesn't follow it through because his mother would kill the both of them.
  • Open Mouth, Insert Foot: In an attempt to one up Curious, Hirona points that if the Skrulls wanted to infiltrate any of their organizations, her team would be the best choice due to being a Badass Crew filled with some of the best hitters in Japan. She immeadiatly regrets her decision.
  • Our Ghosts Are Different: Overlaps with Our Zombies Are Different with Hela's Phantoms. Thor explains that her ability to Animate Dead, differently from her MCU counterpart, doesn't simply raises the corpses of anyone dead around her in their decomposed forms, but brings them forth as physical spirits enclased in suits of armor. Basically like the Shadow Legion from Solo Leveling.
  • Out-Gambitted:
    • Nezu pulls Izuku through it twice during the Final Exams. First by switching the teachers originally assigned to each student, then by calling Hawks when it seems like the students have taken care of the teachers.
    • Izuku outgambits Mischief Squad before their fight at Niamos Amusement Park even begun in Chapter 94. For over a chapter and half, Izuku's friends were fighting was an ice clone controlled with an astral projection. The real Izuku was hidden amongst them the whole time, as Hitoshi. Back when he was "trampled" by the crowd, Izuku switched places with him and has been sabotaging their efforts to capture him while figuring out what weaknesses he may have forgotten to cover, such as Koda's ability to control him if he becomes an animal, or how Momo can create extraterrestrial materials. He then knocks them out of the fight by tricking Tenko into decaying the park's aquarium, flooding the area and freezing everyone but Ochako solid.
  • Outside-Context Problem: As a common example, there are not enough people or heroes aware of aliens and the supernatural, and they are not prepared to handle threats as such. As for individual examples:
    • The Dark Elves are believed to have gone extinct after their major fight against Asgard, so is a shock to Izuku to see one of them amongst the villains attacking the USJ. In truth, they have actually joined Thanos and their existence has been concealed by Loki.
    • Gorr. No one expected the God Butcher to still be alive centuries after his last appearance, so his galaxy-wide Roaring Rampage of Revenge catches everyone off guard. Even Loki, one of the biggest masterminds in the story admits he did not Gorr's sudden appearance throws a wrench in his carefully planned schemes.
    • Mephisto. While his grudge against Loki is nothing new, nobody expected him to hand Tenya the Ebony Blade and make Tensei Ghost Rider's host, causing even more problems to the villain's side and forcing them to step their games.
    • Two heroic and literal examples happen during the Final Exams. Exploring the Loophole Abuse of Nezu's phrasing about the rules for the exam, Izuku arranges for Thor to join the students and take on All Might. On a rather ironic twist, Nezu also makes use of said loophole and brings Hawks to face the students after they seemingly defeat the teachers.
    • New League members, Kraven and Taskmaster, who show up out of nowhere, catch Shishido off guard and kill him.
    • Another heroic example happens during the I-Island arc. Since Tenko never displayed Decay during his time on the island, Ultron is unable to create a countermeasure against it, allowing the boy to be a decisive point for the heroes (temporary) victory against the android.
  • Paintball Episode: The second half of Chapter 103 becomes this after an argument about whether cats or dogs are the superior pets escalates out of control. Amusingly enough, Izuku is not involved in it at any capacity for once, but he does puts it down when it goes out of control by revealing himself to be Team Shark.
  • Pay Evil unto Evil:
    • A Discussed example during Chapter 81. Rocket and Nezu talk about how each of them intends to subject their respective abusers to the same torture they endured, with Rocket intending to finish what he started with the High Evolutionary when he ripped off his face and Nezu wanting the scientists who experiemented on him to know what is like to be treated like an animal by having them caged and starved.
    • After a group of Overhaul's crooked cops breaks into her house with intention to arrest her on false charges and taking the place over for themselves, Hela pays it back by quite literally tearing them all into pieces.
    • This becomes Deconstructed during Izuku and Loki's rampage against Overhaul. While several of the cops they attack are on Overhaul's payroll, not all of them joined out of greed, but because they were at a low point in their lives and the money offered by the villain was their only way out, something they regret. That makes Loki's brutality against them come off as excessively cruel and disproportionate, which worsens Izuku's mental state and makes him more guilty of taking this ruthless path than he already felt since he left U.A. behind.
  • Personality Powers; Each of Izuku's Decoys have powers that reflect their respective emotions while fighting inside his mindscape: Eight forces them to hear and see their fears through halls of mirrors with twisted versions of themselves or their loved ones; Nine makes them sink into quicksand that makes them lose the will to keep fighting; Ten is an Emotion Bomb that makes others become angry and Eleven causes others to feel pain everytime he is attacked.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse:
    • Eri. With Izuku's training, the little girl becomes a legitimate badass, best shown when she trashes the Bakugo clone in front of the real one, as a way to warn him to not mess up with Izuku.
    • Laura counts as one as well, being a 12-year-old Wolverine clone.
  • Playful Hacker: Mei, unbelievably so. She manages to single-handedly hack her way into I-Island security and not only invades get herself free access to the island and all of its locations, but she also takes control of all the decommissioned Iron Man suits at the Stark exposition.
  • Power Incontinence: Izuku suffers from what he calls "Clone Panic Attacks". Every time his emotions, mostly anxiety and depression become too much, his clones manifest and act erratically, shouting his internal thoughts and conflicts. While Ochako's presence helped easing it down, it can still happen after a traumatizing event.
  • Power Misidentification: Izuku's power is officially listed as a Quirk that creates illusions, but that is a deception to hide the fact he can do much more than that, and the fact that it is not, in fact, a Quirk at all.
  • Power Perversion Potential: Discussed and Played for Laughs. Inko says that while she and Loki gave Izuku The Talk years prior, now that he and Ochako are getting closer, Izuku should receive the extended version how powers like his can change the dynamics of the bedroom. Izuku is mortified over having to go through this traumatizing experience again.
  • Pre Crime Arrest: Deconstructed with Fenrir. When a prophecy revealed that Fenrir would be the harbinger of Ragnarok, Odin ordered Fenrir's Only Friend Tyr to arrest him or else he would send the Asgardian army to do so, which would end with thousands of lives lost. However, this betrayal is what ultimately led to Fenrir's Start of Darkness and his Roaring Rampage of Revenge against Asgard.
  • Pretender Diss: Izuku delivers one to Mustard when the young villain accuses him of not using his powers to their full potential.
Izuku: No. You've been using those methods to cause only pain. But illusions are so much more. They can let you see a world you've never seen before, bring ideas to life, keep you company on lonely nights, let a little girl know that the world isn't as bleak as she thinks. The point is, you're barely scratching the surface of what illusions can do.
  • Production Throwback: In Chapter 101, Izuku has vision of another version of himself fighting against an armless Overhaul while Eri is held hostage by one of his men. That is a call-back to what happened during the climax of the Shie Hassaikai raid in Birds of a Feather, a story KageNekem started writing around the same time Mischief first came out.
  • Punch Parry: One of epic proportions happens between All Might and Thor during their duel at the Final Exams in Chapter 47. All Might, wielding Mjölnir and Thor, with his full power, slam into each other with enough strenght to cause a hypercane at the test grounds.
  • The Purge: Overhaul causes one in Chapter 90 during his hostile takeover. Anyone who refused his bribes and following his orders is executed in broad day light in the most vicious way possible by his corrupt agents. Taneo Tokuda is shot to death after leaving U.A.; Chief Kenji Tsuragamae and several officers loyal to him are killed in a car bombing that also kills anyone unfortunate enough to be within seven city blocks; Officer Sansa Tamagawa is ambushed and stabbed to near death by corrupt officers. Matsunaga Yoshito, a prosecutor working on a case against Overhaul is attacked at his house. His wife is killed in front of him and he is beaten to death. Worst, it's not entirely clear if his daughters were killed or taken by thugs after it happens. And these are just the named victims. A group of young Police officers are killed by a pair of crooks; Firefighters are locked inside of a burning building by their corrupt colleagues; A politician is smothered to death by a paramedic after surviving an assassination attempt from Police officers, while others arrested by Detective Tanuma for refusing to follow his orders; A judge is executed by her own bailiff after sentencing a Yakuza to prison. And this is just the beginning of his reign of terror.
  • Puzzle Boss: Decoy Six presents himself as one. He is near control of Izuku's mindscape and the only way to stop him is by having him come in contact with his polar opposite emotion, Decoy Five, Guilt. However, Six is being powered up by his other negative emotions, Eight, Nine, Ten and Eleven, which means the students need to connect them to their foils, Two, Four, Thirteen and Three, but unfortunately, except Thirteen, all of them are trapped on different memories guarded by other Decoys, meaning they need to be rescued, united with their opposite emotions and then the heroes can go after Six.
  • Rage Breaking Point:
    • Invoked by Bakugo and Decoy Ten (Anger), towards Izuku. Since Izuku has been surpassing his negative feelings since the events of I-Island and this has been taking a toll on him (even if he refuses to admit it to anyone, especially himself), Bakugo takes matters into his own hands and forces Izuku to admit the anger he had been feeling for a long time:
Izuku: Fine!! Yeah, Kacchan, I am mad. I'm mad because I couldn't do more to protect everyone on I-Island. Or Hosu! Or the USJ! [...] I'm mad that my powers aren't coming as easy to me as they did with my dad! I'm mad that despite everything I'm trying, Shigaraki and the League are still out there! I'm mad that sometimes, my friends can't see how amazing they are to me! And I'm even madder that I had my scepter taken away, which was my best chance to protect them! And! I'm mad at myself for even feeling this way! And I'm mad at you for dragging me out here!
    • Appropriately, that is how Clone Ten was born. When Inko was injured during a villain attack when Izuku was younger, he was overwhelmed with anger towards nearly everyone around him, the villains who hurt his mother, the heroes who failed to save her, the doctors who were too slow to help her get better and himself for being lucky enough for never getting hurt no matter how many times he stays around to watch heroes fighting.
  • "The Reason I Suck" Speech: During his talk with Deadpool in Chapter 97, Izuku finally goes on a rant about how his harmful attempts to push his friends away as well his failure to save his mother from Overhaul have been making him miserable, and how dangerously suicidal he became from it.
  • Reformed, but Rejected:
    • Zigzagged. After his status as the U.A. Traitor is revealed, Class 1-A is naturally angry and hearbroken over the betrayal, even if Aoyama only betrayed them during the USJ. As Mina points out, she understands Aoyama did so to protect his parents, he is still on thin ice, since the experience was very traumatizing to her and everyone else and that simply saying sorry is not good enough at the moment.
    • Zig-Zagged with Hela. Thor makes very clear that her depowered state is the only thing preventing him from telling Odin that she is living on Earth and that he does not trust her one bit. But he decides to give chance to Loki's judgement and allow her to stay, under his supervision.
  • Refusal of the Call: Mirio rejects One for All on the grounds that Permeation is an esoteric Quirk and having to master One for All on top of his original Quirk will interfere with him trying to save people.
  • Related in the Adaptation: Izuku and Denki are cousins through their fathers Loki and Thor. This later extends to Momo as well, who is Hela's daughter.
  • Replaced with Replica: A variant of it. One of Izuku's main tactics is to switch a target with one of his clones or changing their appearance.
    • He first implements it during the second event of the Sports Festival, tricking Shoto into freezing his own team while shapeshifting his own.
    • Izuku does it again during the attack on Knowhere. Since the Nomus won't obey him if he shapeshifts into Hirona, he tricks them into attacking League members by turning them into his classmates. Dabi ends up as the main receiver of this, being constantly turned into Bakugo.
  • Revenge by Proxy: Overhaul decides to make things extremely personal with Izuku as a payback for the trickster saving Eri and ruining his plans. In addition to sending corrupt cops to attack and arrest his mother Inko (...In That Order), he also has his men the construction company owned by his girlfriend's family and freeze their accounts with no access to any money to survive, has Fuyumi Todoroki fired from her job as a teacher and has a judge to cancel her mother's Rei visiting rights.
  • Reverse Psychology: How Deadpool convinces Izuku to go back to his friends. Wade brings up how his last talk with Miguel ended up awkwardly because Wade didn't ate the chimichangas Miguel made him. Izuku talks him out of thinking his friend hates him, saying that would be unfair to leave things on a bad note, since Miguel would have regrets just like Wade. Wade responds by telling Izuku to apply what he said to himself and his friends. Cues Jerkass Realization.
  • Ridiculously Cute Critter: Jeff the Land Shark, Izuku's new pet and his birthday present from Deadpool. It's a quadruped baby shark that does tricks like picking picking knives in the air with his mouth. He might the only being in the story capable of matching Eri in terms of cuteness.
  • Ridiculously High Relationship Standards: A Running Gag ever since Izuku and Ochako start dating is how he sets up stupidily high standards for all his classmates to follow through. The place where he confesses to Ochako and they have their first date? Asgard. Their second date? On a mall where Izuku bought most of the places they visit, including a Danger Room-like simulator where they act like they are at the Moon. His gift to her after she passes the License Exam? A Thirteen action figure made from their costume material that can survive in space. Denki can only fume in rage as the bar keeps getting raised every time he thinks he has done something original for Setsuna.
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge:
    • Gorr goes through one like in Love And Thunder, slaughtering gods from Omnipotence City to Midgard in his insane crusade.
    • Izuku and Loki go through one as they begin to target all the dirty cops working for Overhaul, with said cops helpless as the God and Prince of Mischief mercilessly punish them for their affiliation to the Shie Hassaikai.
    • While still seeking Overhaul, Izuku also goes on a rampage against the CRC cultists that start to attack the city, both to stop them and as way to vent his frustrations from not finding Overhaul.
  • Ruder and Cruder: Deadpool's sense humor leads to this whenever he is on page. In fact, the author even added a "Crude Humor" tag, after Deadpool officially joined the story.
  • Rules Lawyer: Izuku will take advantage of any loophole he can to come out on top.
  • Rule of Symbolism: Izuku's Heroic BSoD causes an emotional breakdown his negative feelings literally overwhelm the positive ones. It begins with Ten (Anger) stabbing Thirteen (Love) in the stomach and letting injured and bleeding down. Four (Prankster) is attacked by Five (Guilt) and Three (Logic) is overpowered by Eleven (Self-Sacrifice). Two (Confidence) tries to prevent Six (Greed) from fully sinking his claws deeper on Izuku, only for Eight (Anxiety) to strangle him back. And upon a second reading, you might notice that Seven (the Hero-Worshipper) is nowhere on sight, which could also mean how Izuku has lost any faith that the heroes will help him this time around.
  • Running Gag:
    • All Might looking at his "Teaching Guide for Dummies" for any kind of answer, whether is at school, regarding One for All, or about aliens and the supernatural.
    • Endeavor yelling Shoto's name during the Internships arc. It gets to the point it also acts as an Answer Cut during the students' discussion about their Internships. By the time of the Hosu attack, however, it gets Running Gagged.

    S-Z
  • Sacrificial Lion: While the story had several examples of Death by Adaptation since Gorr's rampage before the Internships arc, none of them had actual impact on the story until Chapter 75, at the beginning of the Hideout Raid on Kamino, when All for One kills Best Jeanist. Up until that point the audience was led to believe that Jeanist and Bakugo would continue their mentor/apprentice training after the License Exam. This death marks the beginning of the darkest arc of the story yet.
  • Sad Clown: When questioned about Izuku on advice about what to happen if he is ever forced to kill, Wade decides to tell him what not to do. talks about how killing will cause someone to hate themselves, sometimes more than they already and how he hides himself behind all his crude humor and jokes to cope with guilt and sadness until it eats that person alive.
  • Sadistic Choice:
    • Tenko is forced through this by All for One after being captured as the villain demands him to give up One for All or he will torture Hirona to death in front of him, and is only thanks to Kurogiri's intervention that he is not forced to choose either.
    • Hawks and Nighteye finds themselves running into this once they find out that Overhaul can expose the Skrulls. They can capture Chisaki and force him to use his extremely painful and gruesome Quirk on someone they suspect it could be a spy and hope the sociopath brings them back in one piece, or they can let the Skrulls (or anyone who hates his guts) take their shot at the Yakuza boss and let the Skrulls go on with their plans until their endgame is ready to happen. Neither hero is happy with these options, but they don't have any other choice besides buying time and seeing which is gonna be more viable.
  • Screw the Rules, I'm Doing What's Right!:
    • A two-front example after the Guardians Training Camp arc, with Mischief Squad and several 1-A students going along to help rescue Tenko, and Logan calling in the X-Men team in Japan (who still don't have permission from the HPSC to operate on the country) to go along with mission. As the older hero points out, he's done seeing his students getting hurt and no longer asking permission.
    • Flashbacks reveal that this is what led Izuku to help save Himiko and Compress. Izuku considered asking the authorities for help first, but realizing they wouldn't make it in time, he went to save them himself. This actually goes along Crawler's advice (or rather, the advice he was trying to convince Izuku to not follow) about acting when you think something is right, with no concern about the law.
  • Season Finale:
    • Chapter 17 acts as this for Season 1, wrapping the events of the Prologue until the aftermath of the USJ arc.
    • Chapter 42 is this for Season 2, which goes from the setup for the Sports Festival until the end of the Internships arc.
    • Chapter 62 is one for Season 3, which covers the events of the Final Exams until the aftermath of the I-Island arc.
    • Chapter 78 acts as this for Season 4, which covers the Guardians Training Camp Arc until the aftermath of Kamino.
  • Serious Business:
    • Izuku takes his pranks very seriously, taking a surprising amount of time carefully planning each one, which is why he makes Momo his Sitcom Arch-Nemesis every time she stops his plans.
    • Hirona does not accept when someone questions her knowledge of movies. So much so that when she gets into an argument with Mustard over the Rosebud ending from Citizen Kane, instead of pulling the movie from her laptop, she goes to the mall's video store to get a physical copy of it just so there is no doubt of its authenticity.
    • The students, and some of the teachers take argument about whether cats or dogs are the superior pets very seriously, to the point it devolves into a paintball war between the two teams. Even Aizawa joins in!
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: Izuku's Decoys work like this, with each of them acting as foil to counter the other so his emotions won't overwhelm him.
    • Twelve mellows out Seven's fanboy nature while Seven can pick Twelve out of his mutter storms so he won't get bogged out with too many questions.
    • Five's Guilt counters Six's Greed by preventing him from being controlled by his hunger for power, even if it is to use said power to save others (at first a least). At the same time, Six's Greed pushes Izuku forward to become stronger whenever he fails and is feeling guilty about it.
    • Two counters Eight because a way to be less anxious about everything you do is to be more confident in yourself. But in order to prevent his confidance to become arrogance, anxiety comes in to make him doubt himself, even if just a little.
    • Thirteen counters Ten because love (specially for Ochako) is the best way to snap him out of his murderous rage. Anger provides conflict so Izuku doesn't simply comply to everything his loved ones say or do.
    • Four's pranks counter Nine's depression, and Nine's depression prevents Four from taking his pranks too far.
    • Three's Logic prevent Eleven's self-sacrifice, while Eleven prevents Three's logic from becoming a Lack of Empathy.
  • Shadow Archetype:
    • Loki is one to Izuku. Both grew up being ostracized by their peers over being different, are genius planners and masterminds that make up for not being exceptionally strong and dream to make a better world, but while Izuku always held his hopes to achieve his dream no matter what and had people (even if not so until he met his friends), Loki grew bitter, spiteful and manipulative, believing that any means justify the end he seeks.
    • Dictator is one to Hitoshi. Both have Quirks that allow them to control people (Hitoshi has Compelling Voice, Dictator has People Puppets) and grew up being mistreated over their "Villainous Quirks", but as Hitoshi points out, Dictator gave up and just proved what the others said to right by embracing villainy, while Hitoshi continued fighting no matter how hard the path mad itself to him.
    • This is Discussed in Chapter 82 between Izuku and Mustard. Almost like Mustard, Izuku grew up without any friends or anyone besides his parents to believe he could be a hero with his illusions, which, on top of his low self-steem and broken emotional state left him in a very dark place until he met Ochako and his friends' influence pulled him out of it. But as Izuku points out, if Mustard had people who supported and weren't afraid of him to begin with, he could be on the same path Izuku lives now.
  • Shared Family Quirks:
    • Much like Tenko loves to frame everything in gaming metaphors, Hana likes to use movie metaphors while explaining her plans. She is also prone to use her Quirks to throw tantrums and break everything on Kurogiri's bar whenever a movie or TV character does something stupid, like separating an established couple.
    • Denki is as much of a Bad Liar as his father and Izuku.
  • Ship Tease:
    • Between Izuku and Ochako, as well as Denki and Setsuna. Tsuyu and Tenko get some as well before the Internships.
    • A three-way starts between Shoto, Momo, and Kyoka during the Guardians Training Camp arc, with the trio starting to enjoy each other's company more and more during it.
    • Yui starts to notice one happening between Fumikage and Reiko during the Guardians Training Camp arc.
    • Some start between Kamala and Itsuka as the American girl starts to hang out U.A., but Kamala has problems to go for it due to Itsuka being to focused on becoming a Hero. Luckily for her, Itsuka has no problem dating a fellow hero, seeing it as a way for both to understand what kind of struggles they go through on their profession, meaning there is a chance for them, once Kamala is ready to make her feelings known.
  • Shipper on Deck:
    • Eri, Mina, Toru, and Decoy Thirteen are this to Izuku and Ochako, as well as to Denki and Setsuna and Tenko and Tsu.
    • Nagant seems to be this for Nejire and Hirona, smugly noticing how the young villain made a lot of research about the hero following their encounter.
    • Mina is one for Momo and Kyoka, while Toru is one for Momo and Shoto. Thirteen, however, is implied to ship Momo, Kyoka ''and'' Shoto.
    • Taneo Tokuda is one for Kamala and Itsuka, offering advice for the girl to pursue her feelings for the 1-B student.
  • Sitcom Arch-Nemesis: Played with, in that it's made abundantly clear that, outside of the subject of Izuku's pranks, they are all rather close and friends with one another.
    • Izuku is this to Aizawa and Momo, who are left with the undesirable task of dealing with the Prince of Mischief and his pranks. Both hate the job.
    • In return, Momo is this to Izuku, since she is always seeing through his schemes and pranks and is the main opposition to it. Word of God describes their relationship as below:
      Momo: You can't prank.
Izuku: And I took that personally.
    • Eventually, this "conflict" evolves to include Izuku and all members of Mischief Squad (plus honorary members like Mei, Mina, and Toru), against Momo and the rest of 1-A. Once they officially declare a formal war in Chapter 60, Izuku and Momo end up trading Tenya and Hanta to each other's sides, Tenya is initially against the idea until Tsu reveals to him that Izuku was responsible for the scorpion prank.
Tenya: Midoriya. You will be happy to know I still consider you one of my closest friends. I know this conflict isn't made to be taken personally. However, in light of recent discoveries, know that I will give my full effort and participation to Yaoyorozu and her attempts to stop you. I will be returning the favor for the scorpion incident.
Denki: Oooooh. That's the politest way I've ever heard someone say 'it's on, bitch!'
  • Snark-to-Snark Combat: Tenko and Gran Torino are prone to such:
Gran Torino: Tenko! Where are you?! This breakfast isn't gonna make itself!
Tenko: Make it yourself, you old geezer!
Gran Torino: I would, but I'm just so old! I could wither away at any moment!
Tenko: The bruise on my back from our last spar disagrees!
Gran Torino: Maybe if you'd get off your phone every once and a while...
Tenko: Say that to my face! Oh wait, you can't! You're not even a meter tall!
Gran Torino: I'm 1.2 meters tall you shit! And another thing!…"
  • Sketchy Successor: As part of his Kick the Dog routine with Hirona, All for One loves to frame her as inferior to Tenko/Tomura.
  • Skewed Priorities:
    • Shoto is more concerned upon his theories about aliens and the supernatural being proven right upon seeing the Ghost Rider fighting against Gorr than anything else during the attack on Hosu. Izuku even lampshades this:
Izuku: Is that really important right now?!
    Shoto: It is to me.
    • Decoy Thirteen completely ignores the other clones beating down Gorr to flirt with Ochako upon seeing her use the Ten Rings for first time.
    • Mei is way more concerned into saving all the inventions inside the I-Island vault during the mercenaries' attack, that she doesn't realize until minutes later she also needs to save the people.
    • Lampshaded by Izuku in Chapter 71, where he finds himself completely distracted by Ochako's display of badassery after she knocks Mustard out cold, while ignoring the fact that Knowhere is under attack, and that Iida just found out about his friendship with Himiko and Compress.
    • Quill tells his friends to try not engage the Chainsaw Nomu until he has the correct soundtrack for the moment.
    • Izuku and Twice end getting distracted by each other's cloning powers and sad backstory, and forget they are supposed to at least help their respective allies, who are fighting each other.
    • Played for Drama during the Shie Hassaikai. Overhaul's grasp over the media is so strong, reporters are completely ignoring the Yakuza's reign of terror leaving countelss cops and civillians dead on the streets in favor of questioning U.A. over their teaching ethics.
    • Izuku's main concern after he got stabbed by Blade during their fight was if the vampire hunter could him his autograph in case Izuku didn't die from his injuries.
  • The Sleepless: The "Night Gang" is a group of individuals that hangs around the dorms because they don't need to sleep, so they spend their time eating snack and watching late night shows. Currently they are composed of Izuku's clones, Dark Shadow and Venom. Hitoshi also is part of it, but mostly because he is insomniac.
  • Socially Awkward Hero:
    • Izuku and Shoto to an even greater extent than canon.
    • Tenko never interacted with anyone besides Gran Torino, or the online gamers he plays with, not to mention his Dark and Troubled Past, so it takes a while before he can fit in with his classmates.
    • Hirona is a Socially Awkward Villain. Being raised by All for One, with zero interaction with anyone besides him and Kurogiri, the poor girl is as socially inept as any of the hero students mentioned above. Interacting with Nagant and the rest of the League helps the young villain get out of her shell.
    • Kamala could rival Izuku on terms of being the most anxious and socially inept character in the story.
  • Sparse List of Rules:
    • According to Izuku, Santa Claus has a very specific set of rules about what kind of gifts he can bring: No living beings, no weapons of any kind, making people love for each other (that's Cupid's job), or bestowing luck or good fortune to business. And since Izuku and Loki are on the naughty list, they have a special addendum where they are forbidden to ask for iconic items like Excalibur or Cap's Shield.
    • The 1-A dorms has a book of rules, most of which were created to counter Izuku's pranks. In fact nearly half of it is blank because him adding new rules is inevitable. Such rules include: No heist movies (Izuku attempted to imitate one), no feeding of stray animals (because Eri will adopt them), no using illusions in the stairs (this one is created immeadiatly after the class arrives at the dorms) and the students must use lethal force against anyone who hurts Eri. This last one was created by Aizawa himself.
  • Split-Personality Takeover: Zig-Zagged. As Izuku's Heroic BSoD begins, Decoy Six is not in complete control of Izuku's body, but as long Izuku's negative emotions are more powerful than his positive ones, he is the main one influencing them.
  • Spotting the Thread:
    • Played With. While confronting Kurogiri, the warper ends up causing Aizawa to remember his conversation with Oboro about how he tends to overthinking everything and try to control any variable out of his reach. Aizawa knows there is a good for him to be remember it but can't bring himself to admit. Kurogiri also finds himself remembering of details about his life as Oboro but can't truly grasp what it means.
    • Both Aizawa and Shoto start suspecting Loki may not have Izuku's best interests in mind in the aftermath of his pursuit of Overhaul upon bringing him back to U.A, with Aizawa learning that Loki let Izuku know Eri was feeling guilty about him leaving, but left out a part of a message showing where she comes to terms with his mistakes and she should stay at the school to help him get better once he is saved, something that caused his mental state to take a turn for the worse. Shoto, for his turn, figures out Loki was the one behind Six's attempt to destroy Izuku's loved ones by trapping them inside his mindscape when he boosted the clone's power enough for him to do so, with the hero student and teacher working separately to figure out what is Loki's true agenda.

    • Chapters 88-XX: Shie Hassaikai
  • Suicidal Overconfidence: Hirona refuses to back down and still tries to kill All for One even while seeing the villain taking both All Might and Thor at the same time. It takes her teammates betraying her and Nagant getting injured for her to realize she stands no chance.
  • Strange Minds Think Alike:
    • Kirishima and Colossus both have similar ways to handle Bakugo and Logan when they are in a bad mood (which is nearly all the time), which is basically challenge then to spar and train so they can burn their anger away. Colossus way includes beer, however.
    • In an attempt to get a better understanding of each other, both Tenko and Hirona attempt to enjoy the other's favorite media format. Small problem, though, they try to do so starting with their own taste, so Hirona tries to play games based on movies while Tenko watches movies based on popular video games. Needless to say, it's an experience that both of them painfully regret and one quickly chastises the other over it. Word of God even confirms that Super Mario Bros. (1993) was amongst the movies Tenko watched, and that is why the whole ordeal was horrible.
  • Sympathy for the Devil: While Izuku acknowledges that Gorr's actions are monstrous and unforgivable, he can't help but sympathize with the villain's tragedy, going as far as to apologize to him for what happened to his family.
  • The Syndicate: The Shie Hassaikai evolves to this thanks to the funds provided to them by the High Evolutionary, to the point the organization is able to coerce its former enemies such as the Silver Clan, the Hand, the MLA and the League to an alliance and expand their reach all over Japan by bribing or blackmailing key figures in the Police or law enforcement into compliance. The heroes eventually refer to this collective organization as "The Syndicate".
  • Talking Down the Suicidal: Chapter 97 has a unique take on this trope. Izuku's mental state has become so broken after the Trauma Conga Line he has been going through since Overhaul kidnapped his mother, he stole a gun from a Silver Clan soldier during the fight at Niamos Park and has been keeping it "to have an option". Deadpool has a way to approach this situation: Bringing up how he also feels miserable with life trying to kill himself with a Muramasa sword, a metal that can override his Healing Factor. This prompts Izuku to try to talk him out of it an Wade agrees... as long as Izuku trades his gun for Wade's sword, which the boy begrundingly agrees.
  • Talking to Themself: Literally, in this case. Izuku has a number of illusion decoys that embody different aspects of his personality and he is often found speaking with them.
  • Take That!:
    • During their confrontation at the USJ, Hirona asks Tenko if he saw the newest American hero movie. She says it was good, but it had too many jokes and the villain was completely wasted. These just happen to be the author's opinion about Thor: Love and Thunder.
    • During the Sports Festival, Nezu tells Mic to tone down with the Disney because their lawyers bothering him. Not because they are upset about free publicity, but because the company doesn't appreciate being referred to without being properly compensated.
    • One happens between Sam and David, who was watching the original Pinnochio movie, saying nothing beats the original after Sam mentions that had been no less than four live-action adaptations and a TV series about it.
    • Taskmaster throws a jab at Black Widow (2021) by saying that Antonia Dreykov is a disgrace to the name Taskmaster and should not be spoken of.
    • While bickering with Ultron All for One says that the main problem of A.I as a whole is its lack of imagination.
    • Deadpool, being Deadpool, can't help but throw shade at the MCU's base-breaking decision to cast Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom during his appearance in Chapter 77.
Deadpool: Enemies? It’s raining Sentinels! It doesn’t get more Marvel-casting-RDJ-to-come-back-as-Doom than this!
    Momo: Get more what?
Deadpool: Desperate! It doesn’t get more desperate than this! That’s probably going to be my most controversial joke of the chapter.
    • He also doesn't miss the opportunity to make fun of the situation on Russia as well.
Deadpool: We’re up to our balls in killer robots! Escaped prisoners, including some cameos, are around every corner! Everything is on fire for Wolverine’s abs sake! Hell, you got people falling out of windows like they’re Russians who criticized their own government!
(Makes a high-five gesture to Kraven but gets slapped away.)
    • While trying to convince Izuku about how they are characters in crossover fanfiction, Izuku tries to make several questions about his source material only to get shut down by Wade in order to prevent a war in the fanbase.
Izuku: Okay, what about Ochako? Did we end up together in the anime too? I’m sure everyone really wanted me to be with her-
Deadpool: Do you have a death wish?! Well, do you?! Because if you do, you might as well ask if Aizawa is a good teacher, if you could’ve really become a quirkless hero, or if All Might should’ve told you yes or no on that rooftop?!
    • In Chapter 90, Deadpool tries to make a joke about molesters, but receives a text saying that much like the Epstein Files, they will not be released. He also teaches Eri a brand new swear word.
Eri: That’s Bull-Mickey! Did I do the swear right?
Deadpool: You did, sweety. That was beautiful. Just like you.
    • A twofold example in Chapter 92. One of the corrupt cops featured is woman named Miki Kora, an Expy of Kikimora, a minor antagonist from The Owl House a well known for having screwed up the show on its last season by Disney. Also works on having a character named Miki leading a group of crooks and being referred to as "an infestation of rats" by Hela.
    • In Chapter 97, Deadpool says he tried getting a job at Marvel Studios, but was rejected because they hate "new ideas". This chapter was also released the day the first teaser for Avengers: Doomsday came out, and at that point, the movie was being regarded as a cheap nostalgia-bait.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: Mischief Squad is forced to work alongside what's the League by the end of the Kamino arc, as the city is overrun with Sentinels, escaped villains and All for One going all out against All Might and Thor. Tsu, Denki and Momo are firmly against the idea, but relent after Deadpool points out they can't afford to work against each other as the city goes down in flames.
  • Thanking the Viewer: In Chapter 82, while he can't see the fourth wall like Deadpool does nor fully believes he is in a crossover fanfiction, Izuku still gives fans a "Thanks for Reading!" over their support for the story.
  • There Are No Therapists: Averted. Hound Dog is an excellent therapist whose door is always open for the kids, who often go through a case of Trauma Conga Line, to talk with. The problem is that most of them, specially Izuku, have a huge problem about asking for help and wanting to deal with their problems alone, but once his Character Development kicks in, he seeks out help, and even brings his friends along with him.
    • Amusingly enough, Shoto is a firm believer of this, saying that therapy is in fact a scheme created by Big Pharma to sell pills to rich people.
  • Title Drop: All chapters are named after a sentence said by a character during it.
  • Took a Level in Badass: The Class 1-A students who did not gain power-ups managed to keep up with the ones who did by the time of the Final Exams. Momo is the best example of it, standing up against Izuku.
  • Took a Level in Kindness:
    • It's subtle, but after the Sports Festival, Bakugo starts to go through it. First taking therapy sessions to manage his anger, then chooses to rescue the civilians rather than fight the monsters during the attack on Hosu, and finally cooperates with his classmates during the Finals.
    • The events on Hosu give Monoma and the 1-B students who attacked Izuku a wake-up call, prompting them to apologize to Izuku. Monoma says he will apologize as well when he makes peace with his mistake.
  • Torture Cellar: The deepest sections of the Shie Hassaikai compound have been turned into this after Eri escaped, with Overhaul been capturing anyone, low-rank heroes, rival gang members, politicians, anyone and everyone they could get their hands on that the Yakuza boss believed could give them some clue on Eri's whereabouts. The torture chambers are left open so any prisoners trapped outside of it know exactly is gonna happen if they don't cooperate.
  • Transparent Closet: Hirona and Nejire. Nearly everyone who knows either girl can tell they are not straight, although while Hirona's take is Played for Laughs as she doesn't want to admit so, Nejire's is Played for Drama, since she knows her feelings for Hirona are not platonic, but doesn't know if they extend to all girls, even if it's clear she never felt attracted to a boy in her life. It takes a talk with Midnight for her to come to terms with her sexuality.
  • Transplant: Inter-authors example. Hyperbeam, the Nominal Hero and Destructive Savior that nearly killed Inko during a villain attack when Izuku was ten years old (and never paid consequences for it) is one from the story To Cross the Line. The author also KageNekem's friend and editor, and let him borrow her character for similar purposes.
  • Trojan Horse: How the League manages to infiltrate Knowhere. They hijack a scouter ship, torture the access codes out of the pilots, and bypass security.
  • Two-Person Love Triangle: Colossus is unaware that his girlfriend Nemuri Kayama is actually his co-worker Midnight, and the R-Rated Hero takes a lot of amusement in teasing him with her persona at work. Ultimately subverted since both of them are simply trolling their co-workers.
  • The Trickster: Izuku, having learned from his father, has decided that doing what is right is more important than obeying the rules.
  • Trying Not to Cry: Okazaki Asuka, the JNN reporter at the aftermath of Kamino is visibly struggling to deliver the news due to how tragic the scenario looks.
  • Unconventional Learning Experience: In-Universe example. Tenko's love for video games eventually helps him figure out how to properly activate and use One for All. As he points out:
Tenko: In other words, you activate it once and it increases all your stats passively without having to worry about activating it again. Instead of treating One for All like an active skill and turning it on every time I wanna use it with a delay…could I treat it like this elixir? Turn it on once and use it to increase all of my stats at the same time?"
  • Underestimating Badassery: A Running Gag during the License Exam where other hero students find themselves expecting Class 1-A to still being on the same level as during the Sports Festival, only to be completely curb-stomped.
    • Saiko Intelli believed she could easily pick Momo as a hostage, taking her as the same girl who was easily tricked by Hitoshi during the Sports Festival, only for Momo to drop on her hideout, knock out four of her classmates with a beanbag cannon and force Saiko to run for her life.
    • Fujimoto Ken of Seijin Hero Academy thought he and his classmates could easily take on Fumikage by luring him to bright spot where Dark Shadow would be weakened. Not only they didn't account for Fumikage's newly developed fighting skills, not to mention how Dark Shadow can easily manifest out of her host's body and beat them up too.
    • Two random students thought Aoyama would be an easy pick since his Quirk could only be used for a few seconds before he passed out, only for Aoyama now in complete control of his Nova powers, show up above them and blast them away.
  • Uneven Hybrid: Since Hela is a half-Frost Giant here, Momo is technically 1/4 Frost Giant, 1/4 Asgardian from her mother's side and 2/4 Human from her father's side.
  • Villain Episode:
    • Chapter 34 explores Hirona's origins, as well as how Gorr and Stain started to work together.
    • Chapter 49 is set during the first full meeting between the new members of the League.
  • Villain Has a Point:
    • Stain points out the dichotomy in Gorr's plan to kill Odin from one villain to another. If the gods, including Odin, are as uncaring as he claims, he would not be moved to save the grandchildren that Gorr plans to target. Gorr reacts with silence before claiming it does not matter.
    • Wolfram points it's only a matter of time until the Commission (and unknowningly, by extension, the Cabal) turns what is left of the Sentinels into a weapon, or rich people use it as a way to surpass those weaker than them, which is why it must be destroyed.
    • Stain is quick rip a new Izuku by pointing out not only Motive Decay for desecending into revenge against Overhaul, but calling him out on his near, if not complete, suicidal state of jumping into any fight in his way with zero regards for his safety during said rampage, to the point where Izuku can't even think about a plan to defend himself in a fight against a more skilled opponent.
  • Villain Team-Up:
    • There is a major villain alliance happening between Loki, All for One, Thanos, and the Skrulls.
    • Stain and Gorr team up to get rid of all gods and false heroes in the universe.
    • In order to survive his war against the Hand and the Silver Clan, Overhaul forms an alliance with the remnants of Orgocorp and the High Evolutionary.
    • Nine's crew forms an alliance with the Brotherhood of Mutants to rescue him from I-Island, where Garaki was last seen upgrading his body.
    • Overhaul establishes one between the Shie Hassaikai, the Silver Clan, the Hand, the Meta Liberation Army and Hirona's team to take his war against the Hero Commission and the Skrulls.
  • Villain with Good Publicity: Overhaul starts to become this once the Shie Hassaikai starts to gain power over the underlworld. His strategy is simple: Travel to the poorest regions of the country and drop backpacks full of cash to everyone around him. That is all it takes to gain those people's loyalty, with all of them seeing him as a angel, a criminal that cares more about the public than government ever did, going as far as destroy his wanted posters and picking fights with heroes for trying to stop them.
  • Villains Act, Heroes React: Hirona exploits this during the Sports Festival. Since most of the heroes are either guarding U.A. or watching it from home, she decides to make her move and prove the League is a threat to watch out for by saving and recruiting Lady Nagant to their group.
  • Villainous Friendship:
    • Downplayed with Gorr and Stain. Stain regards Gorr as a partner in his crusade to purge the world of false heroes, but is disturbed by his sadistic and psychotic behavior.
    • The League seems far closer to each than they were before the Kamino arc, thanks to Hirona not being as much of a manchild overdependent on All for One as Tomura was in early canon. Special mention goes to Dabi and Daken, who both want to kill their hero fathers.
    • Wolfram and Dictator, to the point Wolfram even goes back to save his friend after Ultron is seemingly defeated so they can pick from where they left off and rebuild the Brotherhood of Mutants.
  • Vile Villain, Saccharine Show: The story may be a little upsetting at some points, but it is primarily a comedy with plenty of Slice of Life sprinkled through it, with main villains like Hirona and Loki receiving room to show their Hidden Depths. Other villains, however, really make the story take a dark turn.
    • Gorr is the first genuine threat faced by the students, his galactic rampage leaving bodies behind, his wicked sense of humor, and his willingness to destroy anyone for the sake of his revenge make him a perfect example of it. He brutally murders Yoroi Musha during the Internships arc and laughs at it.
    • Kraven the Hunter and Taskmaster. These guys may work for the League of Villains here, but they clearly outclass all of them, Lady Nagant being the exception, and they are a serious danger to anyone unfortunate enough to cross them. Shishido ended on the short end of the stick during chapter 49, being quickly defeated by Kraven before being executed by Taskmaster.
    • Ultron. From the moment he is mentioned by David Shield, all levity from the story vanishes, or at the very least is diminished. Then he debuts during the I-Island arc, and everything about him is seriously Played for Horror.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifting: Izuku can shapeshift into animal form, although it takes time and practice to learn a new form.
  • Was It All a Lie?: A heartbroken Mina asks Aoyama this once reveals himself as the U.A. Traitor. He answers that other than his forced affiliation with the League, everything he told his classmates was true.
  • We Are Everywhere: With their newly improved infraestructure, the Shie Hassaikai builds a network of double agents within nearly every aspect of society, from Police officers, judges, firefighters, reporters, even paramedics join his payroll.
  • We Can Rule Together: All for One makes this offer to Tenko in order to get the boy to join him, promising that together they can create a world of peace and prosperity, where no one will have to abandon or abuse their families, and the fight between One for All and All for One will no longer matter. Of course, it's too good to be true, and is immediately proven right the villain also expects Tenko to let him take over his body when the time comes, which Tenko sorely denies.
  • Welcomed to the Masquerade: By the end of chapter 59, all Class 1-A students (minus Mischief Squad members, who already knew) plus Mei and Melissa find out that Izuku is a demigod.
  • "Well Done, Son" Guy:
    • Izuku is this to a fault, for as much as he loves being a hero, his worship for his father is something he craves the most. Unfortunately, this is also a major Fatal Flaw that Loki exploits to manipulate his son for his schemes.
    • Hirona is an example of it, desperately attempting to gain All for One's respect and show how much better than Tenko she is. It isn't until Nagant shows up and acts as Parental Substitute that she stops trying to impress the mastermind.
  • Wham Episode:
    • Chapter 29 - Anyone: The Skrulls are revealed to be part of the Villain Team-Up between Loki, Thanos, and All for One, and if that wasn't bad enough, they have already infiltrated several levels of society, mainly the HPSC. And is revealed that Vlad King did not go through a case of Adaptational Jerkass, but was rather a mole inside U.A., and despite being out of the school, there are at least a couple more infiltrators inside U.A.
    • Chapter 39 - And He Shall Appear: We find out who is the man who showed in the last chapter cliffhanger: Tensei Iida. Flashbacks to earlier explain what actually happened: Doctor Reiwaru is revealed to be none other than Mephisto, the Devil from the Marvel Universe. He also reveals he was the one to give Tenya the Ebony Blade, just to get revenge on Loki by targeting his son's friends. He promises Tensei to give his legs back and the power to save Tenya from Gorr in exchange for his soul, which Tensei agrees, becoming the new Ghost Rider.
    • Chapter 42 - Smooth Sailing from Here on Out: Tensei becomes a member of U.A. staff in order to learn how to better use his Ghost Rider powers, and Nezu fabricates an entire fake story to cover it up. And while Stain's Motive Rant still brings the same familiar faces to the League (plus Mustard, who seems to be taking inspiration from Mysterio for his costume), it appears they will be joined by outside villains as well: Taskmaster, Daken, and Kraven the Hunter.
    • Chapter 48 - What You Started, Part 3: Wolfram is revealed to be in charge of the Brotherhood of Mutants, as well as in possession of Magneto's helmet. Meanwhile, it turns out I-Island has several items from the Marvel Universe located on the tower vault, including a pair of symbiotes (black and red, specifically), Doc Ock, Rhino, Whiplash, Vulture and Green Goblin's suits, Juggernaut's helmet, a vial of super soldier serum, another one of Goblin formula, and a radioactive spider. And the biggest reveal of it all: David ditched the idea of the Power Amplifier... in favor of an idea a million times worse: The Ultron Program.
    • Chapter 51 - Queen in Black: The black symbiote manages to break from inside the vault below the tower and latches itself on Setsuna, turning her into Venom's new host.
    • Chapter 54 - Tomorrow: Wolfram and the Brotherhood begin their attack on I-Island. After they killed the head of the I-Island Board of Directors, David activates Ultron. The android quickly turns the table against all of the involved parties, lobotomizing Wolfram, as well as killing Sam and all the Brotherhood mercenaries left. He then captures Izuku, All Might, David, and Vision before broadcasting a message throughout the island stating that Doomsday has arrived for them.
    • Chapter 56 - Cheat Code, Part 1: It's revealed how Fumikage survived his mortal wounds after the following chapter: The boy was chosen by Konshu to become the new Moon Knight and immediately returns to fight by taking down the remaining Brotherhood members left on the I-Island. And Ultron implies he is somehow related to Izuku, raising the implication that Loki is somehow connected to the android's return.
    • Chapter 58 - Cheat Code, Part 3: Also known as the first Game Changer chapter of the story so far. With Tenko's help, all the remaining physical copies of Ultron are destroyed. Victory, however, is short-lived, as it turns out that while the heroes were destroying his bodies, the android successfully uploaded his consciousness into the I-Island servers, taking complete control of it and destroying the evacuation ship that was supposed to take the students back to the mainland. And if things weren't bad enough, the United Nations plane that is in route to the island is not going there to save the survivors, but to destroy I-Island, since Ultron's return makes him too much of a threat to be allowed to live, even if it costs the lives of All Might, Vision and the hero students. Loki arrives at the island as the destruction begins, and confirms that he was, indeed, responsible for Ultron's return, through David Shield. Or rather, the Skrull pretending to be David Shield. The God of Mischief strikes a deal with Ultron, offering him access to Adamantium and Sentinel Project in order to improve himself in exchange for help to achieve his agenda. Just as the island is about to be wiped out, Izuku decides to pull his trump card and calls Heimdall for help. The watcher, even knowing that his actions can be regarded as treason, heeds the call and uses the Bifrost to teleport Izuku and his friends back to Japan, exposing his true nature as an alien to them, before the painful realization of their defeat sinks in.
    • Chapter 73 - Morning of Recovery: While previously hinted, this episode ends with the shocking confirmation that All for One has returned to his healthy state.
    • Chapter 75 - Evening of Remorse: HOLY CRAP! Kamino officially kicks off, and things start to wrong for the Heroes immediately. All for One arrives at Kamino and decides to give the world a taste of his new power, by killing Best Jeanist on live TV. And the narration makes very clear for everyone both in and outside of the story Jeanist has been Killed Off for Real. All Might arrives short after, and reveals he called Thor along to help him deal with his nemesis, only for the villain unveil the secret weapon he and Ultron had been working for the heroes: Master Mold and his Sentinels. And since Quirks and mutant powers are basically the same in this universe, every living person in the city becomes a target for extermination. The Night of the Sentinels has begun...
    • Chapter 86 - And Then There Were Three: Despite being mostly a Breather Episode to help the characters deal with the intensity of the previous chapter, this one ends with a massive twist. Deciding to make due of his promise, Loki finally reveals what is the big secret he kept from his family. Hela, whom everyone believes still being locked away on Asgard's prison, is living on Earth. And not only that: She is Momo's mother, making her Izuku and Denki's cousin, and a Princess of Asgard.
    • Chapter 100 - Beautiful, Part 3: The showdown inside of Izuku's mind finally ends as his emotions finally reach harmony. Beta Ray Bill and Fenrir make cameos in Izuku's memories. Izuku and Ochako finally declare their love for each other. Instead of locking Six away back in the Void, Izuku fully accepts his Decoy as part of himself and promises to never abandon him again, causing Six to make Heel–Face Turn. Finally reunited, Izuku and Class 1-A go back to U.A. for good.
  • Wham Line:
    • David drops a massive one by the end of Chapter 48, which serves for the sole purpose of instilling fear in the readers' hearts after revealing he dropped the idea for the Quirk Amplifier.
David: It's the dawn of a new age, my friend! So, tell me, what do you know of the Ultron program?
    • Chapter 54 has one that marks the turn of the arc From Bad to Worse.
Wolfram: This is exactly what I was talking about! Ultron, a peace-keeping android, would've been kept under the control of I-Island! And do you believe they want what's best for humanity? No! But I return him to the masses, and together, we will finally have equality and peace! Under my power!-
Ultron: Do you feel in control?
    • A shocking one is dropped by Loki in Chapter 58 during his talk with Ultron:
Loki: I agree. Which is why I didn't. You questioned why it would be difficult to bury [David's] planet? Why, because Earth is not his planet.
(Ultron turns around and sees a Skrull in David's position.)
    • Izuku delivers one by the end of Chapter 59.
      Izuku: I'm a demigod.
    • Another one happens in the end of Chapter 69, revealing Izuku made some unexpected allies.
Izuku: You guys shouldn’t have come here, I could’ve handled it.
Mr. Compress: If there is one thing we have always been consistent at, it’s our ability to not listen to you, Midoriya. And for good reason.
    • Another one happens in Chapter 70:
Tsukauchi: I don’t understand? The League has a traitor who’s willing to give them all up. All for One’s operation could be next. Isn’t this why you had me take the detective’s place a couple of months ago? So we could snuff this kind of stuff out?
    • One happens near the end of Chapter 75, marking the turn of the arc From Bad to Worse.
All systems online and fully functional. Master Mold once more restored. Commencing with operation.
    • Another one in Chapter 77, in All for One's attempt to break All Might's spirit near the end of their fight.
All Might: I made my peace with [The Shimuras] deaths long ago! And not a single ounce of my being blames young Tenko!
All for One: That's wonderful! I hope that extends to who else was at fault for that night. Did you know that a few days before the incident, little Tomura had gotten himself lost? That rambunctious scoundrel. Thankfully for his poor mother, a kind and well-dressed stranger found the boy and returned him safely to his family. But not before giving him a present.
    • Izuku drops a big one by the end of Chapter 86, once he immeadiatly recognizes Momo's mother as someone he never expected to meet.
    Izuku: Aunt Hela?
    • Chapter 99 ends with one that might not sound much at first glance, but actually represents a massive leap on Izuku's Character Development.
    • Loki's sole lines in Chapter 103, which are intercut during the montage near the end. It's said that he is reading something from a book... but the first alone is enough to cause the blood of any Marvel fan to go deathly cold.
  • Wham Shot:
    • One happens halfway through Chapter 13, revealing who exactly Hirona Shigaraki resembles as well as her true identity.
It's a girl. She couldn't have been more than a couple of years older than him. She wears a blue-green textured bodysuit that covers her arms and legs with yellow boots over her feet, and a red belt hangs loosely on her hips.
Black hair went down her back with two shoulder-length strands that frame her face and short bangs that cover part of her forehead and part of the thick black domino mask over her eyes.
And finally, a white cape flaps in the wind behind her.
    • Another one happens in Chapter 14. After being surrounded by villains at the Downpour Zone, Izuku is saved when an object resembling Mjölnir knocks the thugs and then flies right back into Denki's hand, revealing his Asgardian ancestry.
    • In Chapter 25, Shoto attempts to freeze Izuku in an iceberg... only for Izuku to reveal he has managed to control his Cryokinesis and successfully sends the iceberg to his adversary.
    • In Chapter 29, it's revealed that Loki also has the HPSC under his control, when he confronts the Commission President and arranges for her to send as many Internship offers to Izuku and his friends, only for it to be flipped over when both the President and Vlad King reveal themselves to be Skrulls.
    • Chapter 38 ended with the dramatic entrance of an unknown individual arriving just in time to save the students from Gorr and Stain. Chapter 39 reveals who is this figure: A fully healed Tensei Iida. Which is then followed by an even bigger shot when the older Iida becomes the Ghost Rider.
    • During the Final Exams, Chapter 46 ends with one of Hawks' feathers nearly hitting Izuku, revealing that the Winged Hero will be the students' adversary for the rest of the arc.
    • Chapter 58: During his talk with Ultron, Loki reveals that he will have to destroy David's world because Earth is not his planet. Which then cuts to a shot revealing David also was replaced by a Skrull.
    • After defeating Mustard, two figures approach Izuku to help him get up, which confuses the villain because both his and Izuku's illusions dissipated when they knocked each other out, and said figures turn out to be Himiko and Compress, who seem to be in very friendly terms with the trickster.
    • Another one happens by end of Chapter 73, when All for One takes off his mask and reveals that his injuries have been healed and he is back at full power.
    • Two examples back-to-back in Chapter 77. First, when Aoyama attempts to distract All for One and hits him with a massive explosion of light, revealing his powers are not an ordinary Quirk, but the Nova Force itself. Then after that, Kurogiri reveals himself to be the vessel for the Space Stone, by pushing his Quirk (turning it blue much like the Stone) to the limit and opening a portal to outer space, which is where All for One is punched into.
    • A big one happens by the end of Chapter 85. Just as Overhaul uses his Quirk on Nemoto to punish his henchman, something unexpected happens when he is put back together, revealing that Nemoto is a Skrull.
    • One happens by the end of Chapter 89. While explaining his reasons for wanting an alliance with Overhaul, the High Evolutionary presents the pictures of his targets, two of his creations that rebelled against him upon becoming more intelligent than they were supposed to. One of them is Rocket, as expected. The other? Nezu.
  • What the Hell Are You?: Okimoto from the Brotherhood gives one to Fumikage during the Mook Horror Show he is subjected to. His answer is the Badass Boast above.
  • What Could Possibly Go Wrong?: Hawks decides to jinx his and Nighteye's mission on the night before they infiltrate the HPSC archives by wondering what could go wrong. Cuts to the next day, and the plan goes FUBAR not even a full minute after it starts.
  • What Is This Feeling?:
    • Shoto finds himself pondering this as he starts to realize his feelings for Momo and Kyoka are not platonic. His main clues (or symptoms as he puts it), are how his heart beats faster around them, his face heats up and there is nothing to do with his fire, and he feels very happy when they are happy, but not the same kind of happiness he feels upon using Endeavor's credit card to the limit, or when Quill praises him for something. So in Shoto's mind is either love, or he has been infected with some alien parasite.
    • Mina of all people wonders internally why the idea of going to a cat cafe with Hitoshi makes her heart beat so fast.
  • What the Hell, Hero?:
    • Izuku calls Nighteye out for acting as if he knows what's best for One for All without taking into account anyone else's opinion on the matter, especially Mirio's who has every right to reject it.
    • Deadpool berates the hero students refusing to work with the League amidst the Battle of Kamino when the entire city is on fire and being overrun by villains and Sentinels.
    • Momo and Kyoka rip Shoto a new one after he uses Flashfreeze Heateave against Overhaul, which causes a giant explosion that nearly injures him and Inasa during their fight.
  • When All You Have Is a Hammer…: Denki drops this one when instead of wasting time counting the beans in the jar, he just breaks it and moves to the next objective.
  • Where's the Fun in That?: Besides being name-dropped, that's actually the title of the story's first chapter.
    • First by Loki in Chapter 1:
Maw: I am curious. We do not have much information on Terra. How do you plan to prepare mankind for our arrival? Tell me.
Loki: Now where's the fun in that?
    • Later in Chapter 50, as part of the Call-Back.
Izuku: Hey, Shinso. Would it help if I turned [Denki] into a cat?
      Hitoshi: …Maybe.
Denki: Heeeeey! What if you just made an illusion of a cat?
Izuku: I could… But where's the fun in that?
  • While Rome Burns:
    • As Hosu is overrun by Gorr's Black Berserkers during his rampage on the city, Doctor Akama Reiwaru is seen calmly whistling as everyone else in hospital panics. That is because the "good doctor" is in fact Mephisto.
    • Once his forces begin to take over the country and throw it in chaos as part of his hostile takeover, Overhaul simply watches it unfold, proud of the nightmare he unleashed, while daring Izuku to come after him.
  • Wizard Duel: Izuku and Doctor Strange have one inside the Mirror Dimension in Chapter 62.
  • The Worf Effect:
    • Yoroi Musha is one of the Top 10 heroes of Japan, yet he is swiftly killed by Gorr during the Hosu attack.
    • In his introduction chapter, Shishido is shown easily dispatching the CRC cultists during the raid, only to be curb-stomped by Kraven and executed by Taskmaster.
    • Both the Hulkbuster armor and Muscular are subjected to this by Ultron during the I-Island attack.
    • Invoked and Discussed by All for One in Chapter 75. He brings up that whenever a story wants to sell out how powerful and dangerous a new villain is they often kill a character the audience knows is strong to show the power gap between than. Which the villain proceeds to show by easily overpowering Jeanist and brutally killing him.
  • World of Bad Cops: Overhaul's newfound wealth, courtesy of the High Evolutionary, allows him to buy the loyalty of at least hundreds of corrupt cops across the country. The ones who don't go along with the program are either killed on spot or arrested on any flimsy excuse, most likely so they can be killed later by their traitorous colleagues, and not only that, they can just walk into anyone's place of business and shut down under false accusations, and if anyone says anything, they will get beat down and get blamed.
  • Worf Had the Flu: There are several factors that led to Izuku not defeating the Hand ninjas in Chapter 84 as easily as he would have with other enemies before. First of all, Izuku already spent too much energy during the License Exam earlier and barely had any rest; One of the ninjas is heating up the corridor, so Izuku needs to coat himself with ice, which costs him more energy and concentration, and he can't use too much of his energy blasts or shapeshift without spending even more stamina; and finally, the Hand are highly trained warriors experts in fighting in enclosed enviroments, way more dangerous than ordinary goons Izuku had to face on his own. It's a miracle he made out of the fight alive at all.
  • Why Don't You Just Shoot Him?: Ochako questions Six over why he, who is technically in control of Izuku's mindscape, didn't just separated them instead of allowing them to split up and stop his fellow negative emotions while saving the positive ones, or just killed them on spot. Both her and the rest of Mischief Squad realizes why: Six believes that if he beats Izuku's friends fair and square, Izuku will see Six as better than them, and rely solely on his Decoy moving forward. Being figured out and then having to endure as Ochako refuses to go along with the battle on his terms sends Six on a Villainous Breakdown.
  • Why Can't I Hate You?: Hirona asks this to Tenko before they meet All for One, questioning why she can't bring herself to hate the boy whom All for One spend her entire life praising and styling as superior than her. Tenko say it's she is trying to be something she is not.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Taskmaster is nearly driven to Villainous Breakdown during his fight against Deadpool, both because the merc's fighting style makes him impossible to counter, and because Wade never shuts the hell up.
  • Yank the Dog's Chain: All for One spent the entire time since Hirona built the League letting the girl think he wasn't aware of her eventual betrayal, only to have nearly half of them backstab her during the Kamino arc.
  • Xanatos Speed Chess: After Nezu reveals the info the class got for the Final Exams was fake both in terms of opponents and pairings, Izuku employs his famous use of Exact Words and Loophole Abuse to help his classmates. Thanks to Nezu's phrasing, he figures out his classmates can go to other sites, help each other, as long as each duo captures their villain or escapes their respective gate. As for who will deal their biggest powerhouses, Nezu never said anything forbidding outside help. And All Might's opponent turns out to be none other than Thor himself.
  • You Are What You Hate: Izuku's "The Reason You Suck" Speech to Gorr nearly title-drops it:
Izuku: What are gods to you, huh?! Terrible beings that cause nothing but pain and suffering onto others without a care in the world?! Immortal and all-powerful deities who torture for fun and enjoy inflicting pain on others! Now, who does that sound like?! Who told me earlier tonight he was immortal and all powerful?!
    Gorr: YOU DARE-
Izuku: I DO! Face it, Gorr! You've become everything you hate and more! The God Butcher?! No! You're Gorr, God of Hypocrisy!!
    • Stain considers himself this, since his brief alliance with Gorr made him realize that in his quest to get the world rid of fake heroes he allowed himself to become selfish and spiteful much like the God Butcher and that is one his reasons for joining the League, as a way to atone for his mistake.
  • You Didn't Ask: When All for One asks Loki why he never mentioned having a nephew, Loki says he never asked. When Loki later asks why All for One never mentioned he has more Nomus, All for One replies he never asked. Loki is upset by the turnabout.
  • You Have GOT to Be Kidding Me!:
    • Tenko's reaction upon seeing how All for One is back to full health after his fight against All Might is to call bullshit on the situation.
    • Taskmaster's reaction when Deadpool arrives in Kamino and starts to kick his ass.
    • That's a Running Gag during Chapter 83, where several characters find themselves saying “You have got to be shitting me”, whenever they run into something or someone to mess with their plans, which is nearly all the time.
    • Aizawa's reaction once he finds out that Momo is also a demigodess and he needs to deal with three alien kids on his class.
  • You Were Trying Too Hard: In order to help Izuku settle better at the dorms after his return to school, Class 1-A tries to make him feel comfortable by any means necessary and making everything they do based on his opinion and tastes, and while he appreciates it at first, he comes clean about how they were making things far from normal even by their bizarre standards, and asks them to tone it down, which they agree, specially since Izuku telling them how he feels about all of it is another display of his growth.
  • Wise Beyond Their Years: After one year under guard of U.A., Eri starts to display an extremely advanced level of knowledge for a six year old girl. She is capable of solving high level math equations, has become a skilled fighter on par with Laura and even able to tinker arond Power Loader's inventions with ease.
  • Zero-Approval Gambit:
    • In order to prove how safe Eri is, Deadpool shoots her while she is wearing Venom as a vest. One problem: He doesn't tell Aizawa that before shooting her, nearly causing him to have a stroke.
    • Midnight doesn't approve the idea of keeping the truth about Izuku's involvement with the vigilante rampage he and Loki were responsible for from the public, but unfortunately, if said truth comes out public opinion will be the least of their concerns, because dirty cops working for Overhaul will take this as an excuse to break into U.A. to take Izuku, and Eri while at it, and hand both of them to the Shie Hassaikai. While this is bound to throw the school at yet another scandal, keeping their students safe must be priority.

Mischief: Variants provides examples of:

    A-Z
  • The Beastmaster: Eri plays the role of Ranger because it's easier for her to tame any animals they meet.
  • Cast Full of Gay: As the relationship tags reveal, several members of the party are in a romantic relationship with others such as Bakugo and Kirishima, Momo and Kyoka (who are crushing on each other and Shoto), and Hirona, who ends up falling for Nejire as soon as they get to the dungeon.
  • Companion Cube: Nejire spent so long inside the labyrinth on her own, she decided to make her own friend to avoid going crazy, Jeff the Boulder. It's hard to say if she is still completely sane from this statement anyway.
  • Double Entendre: While describing all the ways they intend to force the truth out of their prisoners, the party members end up getting... graphical in their descriptions to do so, such Bakugo saying he pound one of them on ground with no mercy, Itsuka promising to fist another, Shoto yanking another's limbs off, and those are the least explicit.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Hirona, Stain, Gorr and Loki are disgusted by Wolfram's Fantastic Racism towards Quirkless people as well as Overhaul's A Nazi by Any Other Name posture towards Quirks. They are also incensed by Overhaul and All for One's child abuse towards Eri and Hirona respectively.
  • Gallows Humor: Izuku decides to make a dark prank before the Squad leaves for his mindscape. Since their physical bodies will be left unconscious, he left a table with cups of of fruit port to make it look like they just commited a suicide pact. Momo is not impressed and Denki is amused.
  • Heel–Face Revolving Door: Lampshaded by Hirona and Wolfram. Given her status as an Anti-Villain and the fact that she is clearly heading towards a Heel–Face Turn in canon, is hard to consider her a bad guy, but for the sake of consistency, Loki asigns her as one until things become official in the main story.
Wolfram: I don’t get why she’s here either. I mean, is she a villain, an anti-hero, getting a redemption arc, what gives?
  • Hidden in Plain Sight: It was said that the Princess of Underwater Kingdom would only reveal herself to the party once they proved themselves by saving Nejire from the labyrinth... only for Nejire to reveal that the Princess was tagging alongside the party along, that being Tsu.
  • Hormone-Addled Teenager: As the third chapter shows, all the party members are, to put it simply, a bunch horny dorks. Denki and Setsuna take advantage of the fact she can't get pregnant inside the mindscape to get freaky with each other, not to mention how some of them become breathless hearing all the innuendo their respective partners spill put during the interrogation.
  • Lighter and Softer: The omakes are Slice of Life who act as Breather Episode from the intensity of main story events.
  • Love Redeems: It's clear that Hirona's ever growing crush on Nejire is one of the main reason for her to be considering a Heel–Face Turn.
  • Politically Incorrect Villain: Wolfram says that if Overhaul has his way and destroys all Quirks, he will turn humans into something worse than roedents. Nobody else really likes staying close to him while hearing all this.
  • The Power of Love: Unlike normal succubi, Mina's succubi descendant nature allows to be empowered people in love around her instead of by sex. Her own relationship with Hitoshi counts as well.
  • Relationship Upgrade: Besides Izuku and Ochako, and Denki with Setsuna, most of the couples in party are or will become official in the main story such Fumikage and Reiko, Mina and Hitoshi, Bakugo and Kirishima, and Shoto, Momo and Kyoka.
  • Reluctant Fanservice Girl: Momo finds herself in this position when in her in-game outfit turns out to be a long maroon and white robes with a cloak behind her and a bikini top. Kyoka, out of all people, bribed Izuku to make it this way. Shoto tried to do the same with bikini bottoms but was too late for it. To be clear, Momo is not exactly upset with showing skin to her crushes, but because the setting where the quest starts is really cold.
  • RPG Episode: The premise of the first and third episode. Mischief Squad, plus Bakugo, Kirishima, Momo, Kyoka, Itsuka Reiko and Hirona are set to travel across the Nine Realms and find out the reason the Bifrost has started to decay and save it before it's too late.
  • Sesquipedalian Loquaciousness: Shoto adopts an overly verbose speaking pattern that makes difficult even for an NPC to understand him, much to the party's embarassement.
  • Sixth Ranger Traitor: Tenko and Hirona count as such, with each being assigned to eliminate a target the party is going to meet, Tenko's being the Princess of the Underwater Kingdom and Hirona's being the fairy from the labyrinth. Of course, once Hirona finds out Nejire is the fairy, it's a Foregone Conclusion she turn her back against her employers and Tenko will be there to help her out.
  • Threesome Subtext: Between Melissa, Izuku and Ochako during the raid. The couple find themselves very enticed by Melissa's claims of how she wants to get magic (Izuku) and science (Ochako) under her control, privately wondering that when they want spice things up, Izuku can turn one of them into Melissa, before the girl says they can just ask her to tag along instead of playing pretend.
  • Tropaholics Anonymous: The "Bad Guy’s Anonymous", from same name chapter. As a Shout-Out to Wreck-It Ralph, it's a support group where the main bad guys from the story sit down and talk their feelings and frustrations.
  • Villain Cred: Ultron says her respects Gorr for all the casualties from his Roaring Rampage of Revenge, saying that his only complain is that his scale is too small and he also complements Stain and Gorr, saying their arc was his favorite before his own. Loki for his turn, praises the malicious A.I. for his grand speech during the I-Island attack and most of the villains (minus Overhaul) agree with him.
