I created a new app (ng new APP_NAME); I installed angular material (ng add @angular/material)

Then I try to display some buttons an this is what i get:

             "src/styles.scss"
           ],

@import '~@angular/material/prebuilt-themes/deeppurple-amber.css';

    Please check your DevTool if any material css is successfully loaded. Also what happens if you place the css include in your index.html like: <link href="node_modules/@angular/material/prebuilt-themes/indigo-pink.css" rel="stylesheet"> Commented Jul 12, 2020 at 14:05

Here is the Stackblitz with the working styles. Maybe you have to add the MatDividerModule, MatIconModule, MatButtonModule to your module.

@NgModule({
  imports: [ BrowserModule, FormsModule, MatDividerModule, MatIconModule, MatButtonModule ],
  declarations: [ AppComponent, HelloComponent ],
  bootstrap:    [ AppComponent ]
})
export class AppModule { }
