In March of their third year of marriage, Eliza was a week late.

“What if I’m pregnant, Henry? I know we never really talked about this, but I’m not ready to start shopping Baby Gap, even though I did score my niece some hella cute clothes during my lunch break today.”

Henry managed a tiny smile at how her run-on sentence had gone from zero to off-topic in under six seconds. He stood before her & placed a hand on each arm, bending a little to look directly into her eyes.

“If you’re pregnant, we’re pregnant. Not literally of course since I have no uterus. But I will be with you every step of the way.”

He waited until she took a deep breath & nodded before he straightened up.

“Besides, we don’t know anything for sure, so try to not freak out, ok?”

“Easy for you to say – you’re not the one who won’t be able to fit into their skinny jeans…” Her eyes widened. “I won’t be able to wear skinny jeans! I’m not ready for this kind of commitment!”

The night is near middle aged & he really should head home but this ad campaign for a teething balm wasn’t going to write itself. He stared intently at the box, willing ideas into his head.

“Baby’s teeth. No crying. A winning combination.”

As soon as the words left his mouth, he wanted to bang his head against a blunt object. Several times. Preferably until he had secured the concussion he so obviously needed. He & Eliza were “a winning combination”. And as much as he was loathe to admit it, he was here, in his office, trying to not think about her. Trying desperately to forget that she had waltzed out of here to meet Freddy’s parents, clad only in his jacket. Ever since he’d seen her in it, he wanted to be his jacket. ( Collapse )

Lincoln almost lost his drink when 180 pounds of woman landed playfully in his lap. To be fair, it was hardly a surprise. He’d known Davina for almost all his life. She’d been a fierce opponent in training & he’d wager half his art supplies there was no better warrior among his people, the Mountain Men or the Sky People. She was just as intense in his bed (& sometimes hers) as she was when preparing for battle. Out of habit, he wrapped his arms lightly around her waist. Her smile was brilliant & inviting. His was warm but polite. Davina straightened & stared inquisitively at him for a long moment.

I'm not a sports fan (as I think I've said to huronia before) but I'm very loyal & fiercely patriotic, which is why I'm so excited about our Olympic team. I rather love pairs figure skating & gymnastics (they're so preeeeeetty) & I found what I think may be my New Fave Routine Of All Time, the Canadians Bryce Davison & Jessica Dube.
