In "The Answer Lady" sketches on Sesame Street, Granny Fanny Nesselrode (the titular "Lady") is joined by a nameless announcer (whom Granny Fanny often calls either "Mr. Announcer" or "Cutie Pie"). Speaking with a strong New Hampshire accent, he introduces the program and reads the various letters that have been sent in to be answered. He typically has to be the one to set Granny Fanny straight on whatever misconception she has about the answer.

In the sketches from the first season, the puppet was an unaltered version of the Guy Smiley puppet used for various characters throughout the season. In the following season, the puppet was altered with brown hair and eyebrows, and an ascot. In their final sketch, he is given a mustache.

A similar-looking character (also performed by Jerry Nelson) assisted Professor Hastings in two of his lectures. However, in these segments it is inferred that this is meant to be a different character as he lacks his New Hampshire accent and sports a beard.
