Fic: I Can Be Brave, Like You (Modern Family: Luke, gen)

Title: I Can Be Brave, Like You
Fandom: Modern Family
Author: Jen (jazzfic)
Rating: PG-13
Pairing (if there is one): None.
Summary: One last family camp, that's what they were promised. And it will be. Except from the way the sky's turning the wrong color, and from what he finds living in the woods, it might be the last thing they do at all. So Luke pulls it together.
Warnings: Character death.
Disclaimer: Modern Family isn't mine.
Author's Note: New fandom, and goodness knows I didn't set out to write something so bleak, but it was just the way the prompt leapt out. Even so, from me, this is dark. Written for the [community profile] poetry_fiction challenge for 2013. All my thanks to ishie for the beta.
Word Count: ~2,400

Title: It's Not Forever
Author: Jen (jazzfic)
Rating: PG
Pairing: Sheldon/Penny
Word Count: 3,100
Summary: Marriage is hard. Years after the fact, Sheldon is still trying to figure it out.
Notes: Saturnalia gift for dontbitethesun. The prompt was marriage!fic. I took a slightly open-ended approach to this. Big thank you to notalwaysweak for beta reading.

bigbangbigbang: A Mighty Roar (AU, R)

Title: A Mighty Roar
Author: jazzfic
Artist: fujiidom
Pairing: Gen mostly, with some Penny/Sheldon, Amy/Wil, Leonard/Leslie, Howard/Bernadette
Rating: R
Warnings: Major character deaths, coarse language
Word Count: ~32,600
Summary:
The entrepreneur, he was a prodigy, now a dreamer.
The geneticist, she turned the impossible to life.
The engineer, he built an island, the vet, she mended long bones.
The ranger, she kept a gun by her side.
The lawyer, he knew from the start.
The programmer, he built a trapdoor in code.
The palaeobotanist, he carved out leaves, the palaeontologist, he found an egg.
The mathematician, she spent her life playing bluff.
And the many things that should be dead, they opened their jaws and thumped their legs to the ground.

Notes: Jurassic Park AU/Jurassic Park fusion, written for the 2012 bigbangbigbang. I don't really know what to say about this except it was hard work, but it's kept me busy for most of the year so I'm sad to see it end! Loads of thanks to weasleytook for being a classy beta as always, and to fujiidom, who is much too talented for this school.

Fic: Now Hear This, By Katy Perry (The Big Bang Theory: Sheldon, Penny, PG)

Title: Now Hear This, By Katy Perry
Author: Jen (jazzfic)
Rating/Warnings: PG
Word Count: 2,865
Summary: After denying Wil Wheaton the chance to see the lost twenty-one seconds of Raiders of the Lost Ark, Sheldon takes the battle to the last place his nemesis is likely to find him. Which is also the most obvious; but no matter, he’s got leadership and the courage of war on his side. And Bernadette has Nicholas Sparks.
Notes: Saturnalia fic for elffriend26. With many apologies for lateness. I hope you don’t mind that it sort of ended up being more gen with a side portion of Sheldon/Penny. Many thanks to muir_wolf for the beta ♥ Merry Saturnalia and Happy New Year!

We Need to Talk About Yuletide

This is only the second time I've participated in Yuletide, but there have been a few years between this and the last, so it was kind of like the first time all over again, with me having to triple check the deadline dates because I was sure I'd get something wrong, or leaving things mostly to the last few weeks. I used the excuse of blurting out 11k for Saturnalia and then having about a sparrow's worth of energy and inspiration to tackle the bigger fandom exchange.

Okay, now my gift. Forgive me a rambling preface for a moment. You see, Yuletide is a small fandom exchange, but it's breadth is huge, there are so many users, it's really like a flutter of a butterfly or a raindrop falling as to the number of participants. But while everything was still anonymous there was this trend I was noticing others, like me, who had ended up writing and receiving the same fandom. I was predicting it would happen to me before assignments went out pretty much because of the absolute rarity of most of my requests except for one. Which I wrote. And which I received. And which I thought, hmmm, I wonder...there's a pronoun in this title. The writing is gorgeous, and:

It Isn't hard to Love Your Scars by [archiveofourown.org profile] Muir_Wolf
Jurassic Park (Alan Grant/Ellie Sattler/Ian Malcolm)

So Jurassic Park isn't the biggest of yuletide fandoms, it had a handful of stories. But I think Ian Malcolm would be chuffed at the odds that I would get someone I adore, someone I poke daily on twitter as my writer. I just. *hands* It is pretty awesome. So thank you [personal profile] muir_wolf, and thank you, Yuletide! And now I want to talk about the story, because it is SO, SO GOOD. Perfect interaction between the trio. Muir's Malcolm voice in particular makes me want to hug it and frame it, and if you love Jurassic Park, if you love the snark and banter and running from dinosaurs, then go read it. Now.

-

Now onto me! I wrote one story:

You In the Dormant Past for [archiveofourown.org profile] mazily
Jurassic Park (Ellie Sattler, Ellie Sattler/Alan Grant)

And it was so hard to do. I just didn't feel it, didn't think any of it worked for the longest time. And then my beta came back and was so nice, and then my recipient really liked it, so. It's Ellie, and I love her character just so much. The little Jurassic Park I had written before had been all the boys, the Ian/Alan snark that I adore, and this had to be her story. So I thought about canon, about the quiet moments, and concentrated on that.

When things have calmed down a bit (I am in the middle of a pinch hit which means a lot of typing today! And then back to work for the rest of the week, fun!) I will poke the archive again, revisit some things and stalk people so I can say, aha! You wrote that!)
