2500 Kudos on Ao3...

It's been a few years of writing and posting, but I have passed what's (for me at least) a milestone. Always a nice way to leave for holidays and conferences and etc....

Still confoosal

The Bachelor loves both of the finalists... and he said so because he is "following his heart" and he meant everything he said "In the moment."

So my prediction is that one of the women will go back to swim with the pigs.

The Bachelor... very confoosal

It's that time on The Bachelor again....  the women, jealous because he's been paying more attention to some women than others (ie, them), start whining and complaining and throwing each other under the bus.

And the Bachelor is bewildered.  What happened?  Why is everything all different?  Why are they upset? Why does this suck so much?

Possible reason one: because you met and made much of them 4 weeks ago and then paid enough attention to each of them that in real life they'd think you were about to want to be their boyfriend.  So they reasonably want some type of reassurance.  Plus you're paying attention to other women in front of them, which kind of sucks for them.

Possible reason two: they're homesick and haven't been able to do any of the things they would normally do to decompress because they are trapped in a hotel room with other women you are dating.

Possible reason three: you're tired and homesick and haven't been able to do any of the things you would normally do to decompress because you are trapped in a hotel room with Chris Harrison.

Possible reason four: they are jealous and feeling out of control, so if they can't have you, then no one else can.

Possible reason five: they are afraid of pigs.

Possible reason six: because love stinks.

Sad dip in fanfic production...

This week, I tried Battlestar Galactica (2003) fanfic.  Feedback: way too canon, which was fair, since I wrote three little vingettes expanding on canon scenes.  Sadly, I have a lot of problems thinking about nontraditional pairings in that particular fandom, mostly because the creators were pretty liberal with their pairings re-pairings and affairs within the canon universe (and so many of the Cylons look alike and steal/borrow/share each others' memories, which makes it hard to build compelling characterizations).  I think it would be easier to riff within the original BSG universe, which was very heteronormative-patriarchy-meets-homophobic-hypermasculinity.

Ah well... As the semester progresses, I run out of ideas for fiction--probably because I am writing material for publication and grading dozens upon dozens of student papers. Like beefing up a paper on dinosaurs and Charles Dickens, perhaps....

I heard a talk on local dinosaurs this week, which inspired me to visit the new, vast titanosaurus in New York yesterday.  Quite large and fun.  Then I did a little bit of work in the dino cafe, overlooking Central Park.  So charming and fun.

Well into classes

Another semester another new group of students.  My new students seem to think that I am an overeducated idiot, so typical start of the semester. It amazes me that they just take for granted that I know what I am doing. I wonder what happens to them in their high school classes to make them so fearful of talking anf trying things and having opinions. While simultaneously thinking that getting an A on a high school paper means they already know all about writing.  (sigh)

Of course, the students in Composition 2 (most of whom took my Comp 1) have already warned the others that I'm much more crafty than I might appear at first.  "Sure... she lets us watch vidoes in class, but just get an eye at the reading."

They're all writing papers for Monday and doing a peer review together, so that will be interesting for them, poor things.

I did a meeting with folks at the medical school (we're forming a writing group) and I was able to refer to practices at sherlock60 and fan_flashworks and smallfandomfest as possibly helpful for doctors... leaving aside the fanfiction and the porn.  I can't say how much I admire the folks who run these and keep all the messages positive and encourage good writing practice.

I am so very grateful for the sherlock60 crew.  A positive Sunday morning after a week in darkest Long Island.  There must be something in the water around here to make everyone so goshdarn unpleasant all the time.   My new strategery for local jaunts is to go to the few pleasant towns or, if I take a walk near home, just smile a lot and avoid the supermarkets and the Starbucks.
