I am trying to export a vector file in a PostGIS database using QGIS "Export to PostgreSQL" processing tool. I have successfully exported other vector specially small sized data. However, I cannot export this large data. From the tool, the running process would stop at 89%, I have waited for it to have an error to look at potential error message, however, it has been an hour since I started to run the process. The original data has invalid geometries, and have fixed it using the fix geometry tool.

What could be the problem that this data cannot be exported successfully?

  • Have you tried using the DB Manager (Database -> DB-Manager)? There you can select your DB and schema and use the "Import layer/file" button. I have found that for some data this tool works better than "Export to PostgreSQL" (although I do not know why ...). Commented Oct 9 at 8:51
  • I dont know if it makes any difference, but try drag and dropping the layer from QGIS layer tree to the database connection Commented Oct 9 at 9:10
  • I tried the DB Manager, @Fjedsen. The dialog box has "not responding" for minutes now after I tried to import it. Commented Oct 9 at 9:48

@Bera, the same thing happened with export tool. It stopped at 89%. Could this be a database problem? The database is in the cloud. Commented Oct 9 at 10:35

I imported the test file into my local PostGIS with ogr2ogr, no problems. Commented Oct 9 at 12:23
