I need to design a very simple battery overvoltage protection circuit, i.e. there's a string of cells connected in series, and if any of those cells has a voltage that exceeds a set threshold (approximately 2.5V), then some kind of MOSFET or a relay should engage. I found a chip BQ77216 which does what I need, however its threshold is too high (around 4V). Is there any suggestions how to implement such feature, or maybe there's other ICs that have lower threshold? Thanks

\$\begingroup\$ The least component way to do it in discretes is perhaps a TLV431 per cell, with their outputs wire-ORed (directly for low voltages, via a cascode or optocoupler for higher voltages), but the threshold setting resistors take a current that won't be suitable for continuous connection, only during charging. 2.5 V sounds like supercaps rather than a battery?? \$\endgroup\$Neil_UK– Neil_UK2025-08-16 10:22:52 +00:00Commented Aug 16 at 10:22
