Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2022 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the seventeenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2022) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and the two most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just three images to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 1 will end on 1 May 2023, 23:59:59 UTC.

Oltre ai 20.000 monumenti già in concorso, quest’anno si aggiungono più di 60.000 edifici religiosi, tema centrale di quest’edizione. Prendi la tua macchina fotografica, o il tuo smartphone, e individua i monumenti in concorso tramite la nuova web-app – disponibile sia da mobile che desktop – app.wikilovesmonuments.it, da cui potrai anche caricare direttamente i tuoi scatti. Sono ammesse anche foto scattate prima del concorso, purché siano inedite.

A livello nazionale verranno premiate le dieci migliori fotografie: cinque per gli edifici religiosi e cinque per le altre categorie di monumenti; queste immagini parteciperanno anche alla fase internazionale del concorso. Non sono ammesse immagini con watermark o cornici, né fotografie eccessivamente elaborate in postproduzione. У конкурсі є серйозне обмеження за часом створення фото- та відеоматерілів — тільки роботи зняті до 30 червня 2023 року включно приймаються. Однак, є виняток — спецномінація «Інтер'єри», де можна подавати файли, які зроблені й під час конкурсу. Ciao, un messaggio da alcune utenze del gruppo locale Toscana L'edizione 2023 di Wiki Loves Monuments si è conclusa. Lo scorso anno non avevamo segnalato l'inizio del concorso perché abbiamo avuto delle metriche di adesione più alte rispetto agli ultimi anni, quindi incentivare il caricamento sarebbe stato controproducente per i partecipanti più occasionali. Anche quest'anno l'adesione è stata alta (anzi nettamente più alta), probabilmente perché c'erano molte foto di chiese (la novità di quest'anno) negli archivi dei partecipanti storici e per questo non è stato inviato un messaggio durante settembre, mantenendo la strategia di massimizzare la promozione durante gli anni di minore partecipazione. I finalisti son stati nel frattempo selezionati e annunciati. Qui troverete il riepiligo con i vincitori. Greetings from the Wiki Loves Folklore International Team! Wiki Loves Folklore is an international photography contest hosted on Wikimedia Commons to document folklore and intangible cultural heritage from around the world, such as folk festivals, folk dances, folk music, folk activities, folk games, folk cuisine, folk wear, folktales, folk games, folk religion, mythology, and many more.

The campaign invites participants to document photographs, videos, and audios linked to folk culture and fit within the contest's theme. Through this campaign, you may become a part of a community dedicated to preserving our intangible culture, which has been brought and passed down for thousands of years.

How can I Contribute?

The dates for the submission in the photography contest on Wikimedia Commons are from 1 February 2024 through 31 March 2024. Probably you are wondering how you can take part. It’s simple: grab a camera, record an image, video or audio under the folklore theme and start uploading or Click on Upload Now Icon which is available on right side of Wiki Loves Folklore 2024. Wikimedia science competition

Gentilissimo, ho trovato il suo contatto sulla pagina del concorso wikimedia commons. A dicembre abbiamo caricato delle foto per il concorso e abbiamo recentemento scoperto che due di queste foto si sono classificate al secondo e al terzo posto tra i finalisti nella categoria People in Science. Purtroppo non abbiamo ricevuto nessun avviso in merito, abbiamo visto tardi i risultati e non abbiamo quindi partecipato alla cerimonia di premiazione del 22 marzo a Bologna, è un vero peccato perché per i ragazzi sarebbe stato molto emozionante. C'è qualche possibilità di avere un certificato o dei gadget per i ragazzi che si sono classificati tra i finalisti? Un'altra domanda: anche i finalisti parteciperanno alla fase internazionale del concorso? Grazie in anticipo per la informazioni che potrà darmi. Менше 100 робіт із Хмельницької (55), Кіровоградської (63), Черкаської (65), Рівненської (70), Одеської (73) та Запорізької (96) областей. Можливо, у Вас є світлини пам'яток з цих регіонів? Або Ви знаєте людей чи організації, до яких можна звернутися, щоб завантажили?

Також нагадуємо, що цього року є спеціальні номінації, де можна завантажувати і ті об'єкти, які не охороняються офіційно — «Єврейська спадщина» (включаючи караїмські), «Німецька спадщина» та «Польська спадщина». Якщо у Вас є інформація про пам'ятки, які не включені у списки ще, звертайтеся до оргкомітету wlmwikimedia.org.ua чи на сторінку обговорення.

Привіт!

З 1 по 31 жовтня (за київським часом) запрошуємо до участі в українській частині міжнародного фотоконкурсу «Вікі любить пам'ятки», метою якого є фотографування пам'яток історико-культурної спадщини України. Долучатися можуть усі охочі — як професійні фотографи, так і початківці. Журі визначить найкраще фото кожного регіону України, а 10 найкращих знімків пам’яток з усіх поданих будуть представляти Україну та її культурну спадщину на міжнародному етапі «Wiki Loves Monuments». Зі списками пам'яток можна ознайомитися тут.

Окрім основних номінацій, цього року у конкурсі є десять спеціальних номінацій та відзнак:

• «Відео»
• «Війна руйнує пам'ятки»
• «Елементи екстер'єру»
• «Єврейська спадщина» (включаючи караїмські пам'ятки)
• «Інтер'єри»
• «Німецька спадщина»
• «Польська спадщина»
• «Фотоплівка»
• «Визначні місця Харкова»
• та нова спецномінація цього року — «Пам'ятки дерев'яної архітектури України»

Усі конкурсанти та конкурсантки, яких відзначать у конкурсі, отримають сувеніри та цінні призи від ГО «Вікімедіа Україна», яка проводить фотоконкурс в Україні.

Важливо! Через російське вторгнення в Україну також довелося змінити умови: у більшості випадків тільки роботи зняті до 31 серпня 2025 року включно будуть прийматися на конкурс. Винятком є спецномінація «Інтер’єри» (фото всередині пам’яток можуть бути зроблені будь-коли без обмежень за часом створення) і знімки, зроблені на тимчасово окупованих територіях України.

Документування культурної спадщини завжди потрібне й корисне, але зараз — особливо важливе, адже пам'ятки перебувають під загрозою фізичного знищення через воєнні дії.

Привіт! Дуже сподіваємося, що у Вас та Ваших рідних усе максимально добре. Нагадуємо, що конкурс «Вікі любить пам'ятки» триває до 31 жовтня включно. За перший тиждень фотозмагання завантажено понад 6300 фото, взяли участь понад 75 учасників та учасниць. Україна зараз на 10-му місці за кількістю поданих робіт у міжнародній таблиці.

Станом на сьогодні зовсім відсутні світлини з Севастополя та Луганської області. Дуже мало робіт із Херсонської (5 фото), Миколаївської (27 фото), Донецької (37 фото) та Одеської (46 фото). Можливо, у Вас є світлини пам'яток з цих регіонів? Або Ви знаєте людей чи організації, до яких можна звернутися, щоб завантажили? На конкурс підходять власні фотоархіви, навіть із фотоплівки.

Цього року додалася спеціальна номінація, присвячена дерев'яній архітектурі. Також нагадуємо, що цього року теж є спеціальні номінації, де можна завантажувати і ті об'єкти, які не охороняються офіційно — «Єврейська спадщина» (включаючи караїмські), «Німецька спадщина» та «Польська спадщина». Якщо у Вас є інформація про пам'ятки, які не включені у списки ще, звертайтеся до оргкомітету wlmwikimedia.org.ua чи на сторінку обговорення.

І якщо у Вас є світлини пам’яток, зруйнованих у ході війни, завантажте їх на «Війна руйнує пам'ятки». Якщо потрібної пам'ятки там немає — теж пишіть оргкомітету.

Привіт! Сподіваємося, що у Вас та Ваших рідних усе максимально добре. Нагадуємо, що конкурс триває до 31 жовтня. За першу половину конкурсу в українській частині конкурсу завантажено понад 13500 фото, взяли участь більше ніж 120 конкурсантів та конкурсанток.

26 із 27 регіонів України представлені на знімках, включно із тимчасово окупованими регіонами, однак поки що відсутні світлини з Луганської області. Також усе ще дуже мало світлин із Севастополя (2 фото — 1 об’єкт), Херсонської (10 фото — 5 об’єктів), Миколаївської (39 фото — 13 об’єктів), Донецької областей (42 фото — 24 об’єкти) та АР Крим (75 фото — 21 об’єкт).

Wiki Science Competition 2025 in Switzerland

Dear uploader of Wiki Loves Earth in Switzerland, Wiki Loves Monuments in Switzerland and Wiki Loves Switzerland , we would like to remind you that Wiki Science Competition 2025 has started in the whole world. It is now open in your country until December, 15th.

If you want to take part in Swiss WSC2025, please consult this page. There are different categories that can be used (you might therefore have something already interesting in your archive). Prizes can be allocated for the 1st and 2nd positions in every category.

If you are an expert user, we remind you that the images uploaded within the deadline can be included in any case in their national category even if not uploaded with the main interface by simply adding the national category.

If you take part, please consider improving the description in English of your files, since such description is what the international jury will use to evaluate them at the following step. World finalists will be finalized after March 2026.

Wiki Science Competition 2025 in Chile

Charlesjsharp what? Chile decided to schedule their activity in the summer, and we couldn’t oppose that — it’s fully their right, and we remain flexible. Naturally, there are pros and cons. I send the global reminder message in November, as I do every year, and I can’t realistically send more than one because updating the global lists takes time. In that message, I always ask people to pay attention to the timeline, given these variations.

There is nothing unusual here — this has been the process for years. It was the same with Russia some years ago: they can’t receive prizes, so they were excluded, but at the time they held their event in the spring, and I always informed their uploaders in November (I remind to start polishing descriptions for example). Nobody from Russia, Bangladesh (this year), or other countries ever complained or imagined any hidden agenda, this is the first time I encounter such a reaction so I don't know what else to say.

You can contact the national chapter, ask about their choice, and provide feedback so they can inform potential uploaders properly for the next edition. If their sponsor preferred a different month (as was the case with Russia, as far as I know), or if they simply felt another period suited their goals better, I simply don’t interfere with that, of course. Charlesjsharp Sometimes providing fast and detailed explanations can be perceived as “too much,” but every person, culture and milieu reacts differently. Someone might see there good faith for example.

Regarding whether the current solution is satisfactory: it’s a compromise, as with human things usually occur. Without national competitions, there are fewer opportunities to win prizes. There is no point in forcing people to upload in November–December if they would then have fewer chances to win something. At the same time, nothing changes for contributors from those countries who want to upload now — they are free to do so. The national upload window is an additional opportunity to win more prizes, not the only opportunity.

In any case, I outlined a path to make things more satisfactory: the feedback should be shared with the national chapter, not only with the internationla organizers. With one negative comment out of a thousand (potential) uploaders, I cannot unilaterally push to change a system. If they want, the national chapter can align their competition with the autumn season, or they can ask for help in promotion.
