Gearfried
Gearfried is a series of Warrior monsters that represent the various forms and evolutions of the card "Gearfried the Iron Knight".

Each member of this series (except for "Lightray Gearfried") has an effect that revolves around Equip Cards, usually requiring the player to sacrifice them in order to gain benefits varying from instant monster destruction to the negate of specific card types. While not mentioning Equip Cards, "Gilti-Gearfried the Magical Steel Knight" first effect triggers when it is targeted by a card or effect, meaning it will always triggers when equipped with an Equip Card and achieving essentially the same result as the other members: negating the targeting card or effect to follow with further destruction. This common playstyle was likely inspired by how the first member (the only one lacking any effect in addition to destroying any card equipped to it) was used in the actual card game in combination with Equip Spells (or Traps with an effect that treats them as Equip Cards) having an effect that triggers when being destroyed, once again achieving the same result as the following members.
In the anime, Joey Wheeler recited the story of Gearfried; he wore a special armor, which comes in the form of "Gearfried the Iron Knight", to lock away his tremendous power. His true strength is then revealed in the form of "Gearfried the Swordmaster" through the use of "Release Restraint".
"Gearfried the Iron Knight" appears as a character in Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Arena, and "Phoenix Gearfried" appears in Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's World Championship 2010: Reverse of Arcadia .
