Destiny HERO

(Redirected from Destiny Hero)

"Destiny HERO" (D-HEROデステニーヒーロー, Desutenī Hīrō) is a "HERO" sub-archetype of DARK Warrior monsters used by Aster Phoenix in the Yu-Gi-Oh! GX anime, as well as by his alternate universe counterpart in the Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V anime. Since their debut, they have been believed to be an anti-thesis to the "Elemental HERO" archetype, as specific cards somewhat resemble certain "Elemental HERO" monsters.

AnimeEdit

In the Yu-Gi-Oh! GX anime, the "Destiny HERO" monsters were designed by Aster Phoenix's father. After he was killed (kidnapped in the dub), Aster inherited the cards, although one was stolen by the D.

It was mentioned by Aster that, just like "Neos" and the "Neo-Spacians", the "Destiny HERO" monsters were infused with cosmic energies.

The stolen card was known as the "Ultimate D Card". Aster made it his business to find this card in order to avenge his father. The "Ultimate D Card" was "Destiny HERO - Plasma", while the "Final D Card" was "Destiny End Dragoon". Aster was able to retrieve the former card after defeating the D. "Destiny End Dragoon" was initially stolen by Mike in the fourth season, but it was retrieved by Jaden and Emeralda during a Duel that Mike organized, and was ultimately returned to Aster.

EtymologyEdit

In the OCG, the names of all "Destiny HERO" monsters begin with the letter D and end with the word Guy. There are a few exceptions that don't end with Guy, but their names still feature the letter D.

MembersEdit

The "Destiny HERO" monsters are based on vigilantes/antiheroes (such as Batman, Devilman, and Spawn) as well as British culture, in contrast to the American superhero-theme of the "Elemental HERO" archetype. There is also an emphasis on time and the future in most "Destiny HERO" card effects, as opposed to the more immediate effects of "Elemental HERO" monsters, with many having effects that trigger/resolve during the Standby Phase, interact with the top card(s) of the Main Deck, or take effect over multiple turns.

"Destiny End Dragoon" is not a "Destiny HERO" monster, but it is a Fusion between two "Destiny HERO" monsters and supports the "Destiny HERO" archetype. "Xtra HERO Cross Crusader" also supports the archetype, and its Japanese name ends with "Guy".

"Elemental HERO Phoenix Enforcer" and "Elemental HERO Shining Phoenix Enforcer" are also associated with the "Destiny HERO" archetype. They are named after and used by Aster Phoenix in Yu-Gi-Oh! GX, and their Japanese names also end with "Guy". Incidentally, the OCG/TCG-original card "Destiny HERO - Destroyer Phoenix Enforcer" serves as the inspiration for those "Elemental HERO" cards' association with the "Destiny HERO" archetype.

Several support and related Spell/Trap Cards also have references to British culture.

Playing styleEdit

"Destiny HERO" is a Fusion archetype that generally revolves around Summoning powerful boss monsters to suppress the opponent. Their playstyle focuses heavily on Graveyard effects to get enough material for their bosses. The archetype also has sub-themes of drawing cards and delayed effects (cards activating/resolving the turn after their conditions are met).

The archetype is capable of controlling the game with endboard pieces like "Plasma" (shuts down monster effects), "Dark Angel" (shuts down the controller's Spells), "Dystopia" and "Destroyer Phoenix Enforcer" (Quick Effect removal disruptions) and "D-Tactics" (banishes 1 card from hand/field/GY). Easy access to "Masked HERO Dark Law" further supports this playstyle. The archetype also has some excellent protection in "Destiny HERO - Dreadmaster", "Destiny HERO - Dusktopia" , "Destiny HERO - Dreamer" and "D - Force" making their fellow "Destiny HERO" monsters untargetable and indestructible.

The Main Deck monsters often have GY effects which help swarm the field and/or give advantage. "Malicious" can banish itself to Summon another copy from the Deck, and is not once per turn. "Denier" can once per Duel Special Summon itself from the GY, then recycle a banished "Destiny HERO" monster (usually paired with "Malicious" to enable it to use its effect one more time). "Celestial" can banish itself and another "Destiny HERO" from the GY to draw 2 cards, and "Dynatag" can banish itself to boost a "Destiny HERO" monster's ATK by 1000. Cards like "Fusion Destiny" (Fusion Summons by using materials from the hand or Deck) and "Destiny Draw" help get the cards to the GY.

For Fusion plays, the "Destiny HERO" archetype has historically relied on monsters from other "HERO" sub-archetypes such as "Vision HERO Vyon", "Elemental HERO Blazeman" and "Masked HERO Furnace" to search "Polymerization". Recently however, "Destiny HERO" now has reliable tools from their own sub-archetype such as the aformentioned "Fusion Destiny", "Dusktopia" (perform a Fusion Summon upon its Fusion Summon), "Dreadnought Servant" (which can search "Polymerization") and "Destro-Dogma" (which has a Quick Effect to perform a Fusion Summon in response to an opponent activating a card/effect).

Sample combosEdit

Destiny HERO - Doom Overlord
  1. Normal Summon "Destiny HERO - Doom Overlord" and use its effect to send a "Destiny HERO" (e.g. "Destiny HERO - Malicious") to GY and add "Dark City at Midnight" to hand.
  2. Activate "Prison City" and use it to add "Destiny HERO - Dreadnought Servant" to hand.
  3. Special Summon "Dreadnought Servant" and use its effect to destroy "Prison City" to add "Polymerization".
  4. "Prison City" summons "Destiny HERO - Dreadmaster" from Deck, which in turn summons the "Destiny HERO" in the GY.
  5. Use "Dreadmaster" to summon "Destiny HERO - Dreadnought Master", who adds "D - Force" and "Destiny HERO - Destro-Dogma" to hand.
  6. Use "Polymerization" to fuse "Dreadnought Master" and "Destro-Dogma" into "Destiny HERO - Destroyer Phoenix Enforcer".
  7. Activate "D - Force" to search "Destiny HERO - Plasma", summon it by tributing "Doom Overlord", "Dreadnought Servant" and the "Destiny HERO" summoned by "Dreadmaster".
  8. Special Summon "Destro-Dogma" by banishing three "Destiny HERO" monsters from GY.
Fusion Destiny
Opening: "Fusion Destiny"
  1. Activate "Fusion Destiny", using "Destiny HERO - Malicious" and "Destiny HERO - Destro-Dogma" to summon "Destiny HERO - Dreadnought Master".
  2. "Dreadnought Master" adds "Destiny HERO - Doom Overlord" and "D - Force".
  3. Summon "Doom Overlord", use effect to send "Destiny HERO - Denier" to GY and add "Dark City at Midnight".
  4. Activate "D - Force" and add "Destiny HERO - Plasma".
  5. Summon "Xtra HERO Cross Crusader" using "Dreadnought Master" and "Doom Overlord".
  6. "Cross Crusader" effect to special summon a "Destiny HERO", then tribute to add "Destiny HERO - Dark Angel".
  7. Summon "Dark Angel" to opponent's field.
  8. Activate "Dark City at Midnight" and add "Destiny HERO - Dreadnought Servant" to hand.
  9. Special Summon "Dreadnought Servant", destroy "Clock Tower Prison City", and add "Polymerization".
  10. Effect of "Clock Tower Prison City" to summon a Level 6+ "Destiny HERO" (e.g. "Destiny HERO - Dreadmaster" to summon back additional "Destiny HERO" monsters, also destroying "Cross Crusader")
  11. Use "Polymerization" to fuse "Dreadnought Servant" and the Level 6+ "Destiny HERO" to summon "Destiny HERO - Destroyer Phoenix Enforcer".
  12. Banish "Malicious" to summon another copy.
  13. Summon "Denier", who adds back the banished "Malicious".
  14. Tribute "Malicious", "Denier" and "Cross Crusader" (or "Destiny HERO" monsters summoned by "Dreadmaster") for "Plasma".
  15. Banish three DARK or Warrior monsters from GY to summon "Destro-Dogma".
  16. Banish "Malicious" from GY to summon another copy.
  17. On opponent's turn.
    1. The effect of "Dark Angel" will not be active unless they clear "Plasma", but it will be stopping them from using certain cards (e.g. "Lightning Storm".)
    2. "Destro-Dogma" can use its effect to fuse with "Malicious" into another monster, examples include:
      1. "Dreadnought Master" to add follow up, and trigger "Dreadnought Servant" in the GY.
      2. "Starving Venom Fusion Dragon, Four Heavenly Dragons", who in turn can fuse into "Predaplant Dragostapelia" or "Predaplant Triphyoverutum" using opponent's monsters.

With other HERO archetypesEdit

The archetype is often combined with other parts of the "HERO" archetype, with many "HERO" cards supporting "Destiny HERO".

On the other side of the relationship, the "Destiny HERO" archetype is one of the backbones in the overall "omni-HERO" playstyle, thanks to the Link Summon "climbing" capabilities offered by "Malicious" and "Denier", along with "Cross Crusader's" effect to Summon from Deck. The power offered by the "Destiny HERO" boss monsters also makes them popular to include, with "Fusion Destiny" being an excellent card overall. While "Fusion Destiny" (as well as "Destiny HERO - Doom Overlord") locks the player out of Special Summoning non-DARK "HERO" monsters, most of the consistent "HERO" extenders and strong endboard pieces (i.e., all "Vision HEROes", "Masked HERO Dusk Crow", "Masked HERO Dark Law", "Masked HERO Anki", "Contrast HERO Chaos", and all "Xtra HERO" monsters sans "Xtra HERO Wonder Driver") are "DARK", so "HERO" decks can still build a competent field even if the player has to use "Fusion Destiny" as their early combo starter.
