Biography
Willie Slade was born in Weedon, Buckinghamshire on 9 May 1873. His birth was registered in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire in the second quarter of 1873.[1]
In the 1881 census William (age 7), Scholar, was the son of Emma Slade, married, in Weedon, Buckinghamshire, England. His father is not present but Kate Florence (11), John (10) and Blanche (2) were in the home. [2]
At the time of the 1891 England and Wales Census, William Slade was listed as boarding in the household of William Mills in Sutton, Lancashire with his occupation listed as "Stores Labourer (Em'ee)".[3] whilst his parents and siblings remained living in Buckinghamshire. [4]
Willie's marriage to Flora Cross was registered in the Jul-Aug-Sep quarter of 1900 in the West Ham district.[5]
In the 1901 census Willie (age 27), Metropolitan Police Constable, was the married head of household in West Ham, Essex, England.[6]
Willie was on the Metropolitan Police team which won the bronze medal in the tug of war in the 1908 Olympics.
In the 1911 census Willie (age 37), Police Constable, was the married head of household in Plaistow St Mary, Essex, England.[7]
In the 1939 register Willie (age 66), Retired, was recorded as married in Southend-on-Sea, Essex, England.[8]
Willie died in Southend-on-Sea on 30 September 1941. His death was registered in Southend-on-Sea in the fourth quarter of 1941.[9]
